But most people at Era are crybaby soyboy who whines about everything
Not remotely true. 95% of the drama in threads is from like 50 super active members that post constantly and pretty much only about that type of shit. Some others come into hot issue threads and agree with them, but don't stir shit up like those losers do. The problem isn't the posters, it's that the mods are on that small, vocal minorities' side and do warnings and bannings based on what offends them. Which causes huge issues as they have extreme views and very thin skins.
But the vast majority of the people who post and browse that site are there just for the game news, game OTs, game spoiler threads, gaming communities and so on. The same stuff most of us came to GAF for before. The gaming forum there is almost all pure gaming threads. There's usually one or two (and often no) social/political issue threads on the first page of gaming. I see two currently--the David Jaffe thread (also one on the front page of gaming here) and one about a Eurogamer article on the GoG tweets etc. No thread on that here yet, but there is a second social issue thread with the game censorship discussion one.
It's perfectly fine if people don't want to post there And you probably shouldn't as people that toss around terms like soyboy are going to get triggered a lot on a site full of mostly very liberal people even if you put those minority of extremist idiots over there on ignore. But people here mis-characterize the hell out of that site. No it's not a few active members, it's a few thousand. No they aren't all posting in the social/political issue threads--most are annoyed by them and just there for the super active gaming discussions. No they don't all agree with the extremists. A vast majority there said they were
still going to buy Cyberpunk 2077 in a poll that went up and got several hundred votes during the controversy (before a mod closed it, of course--again the moderation is the only real problem there), despite all the outrage from those knuckleheads trying to organize a boycott.
Again, perfectly fine to avoid that site as it's understandable to not want to associate with those crazies and especially with the mods on their side. Even more so if you are one that wants to discuss social/political issues as it's awful for that. It's just largely moot for someone like me with very little interest in those topics (I care in real life, don't care to discuss serious issues with gamers online). That stuff rarely festers in to game OTs and other things I post in, and mods are good about getting rid of it when it does and confining it to the dedicated threads.
It's just silly to generalize whole sites as bad when it's just like GAF before the split where the vast majority of posters and guests are just there for the game content and are just ignoring the crazy vocal minority and shitty mods. Generalizing them is no different than the idiots there that think this is an alt right site when it very clearly leans left. They just focus on the few posts by some further right members who post some pretty out there stuff from time to time that's allowed to fly as it's not attacking anyone even though it clearly outs them of having some racist/sexist/homophobic views. Those idiots are just this sites opposite side equivalent on the crazies over there. Put them on ignore and you're good to go.
My only issue with this site is gaming is still too slow to be useful for my needs, beyond just discussing random shit when board at work. Game OTs need to be super active for me as if I'm posting it's usually with a question that I want an immediate response to so I can make progress in the game. That's rare with the pace of a forum like this one, except for maybe the opening week or two of a huge AAA game like RDR. Even then it's going to be slow when a super active site with thousands of members online at any given time is going to give you a near instant response in most every game OT. Even for the very niche stuff it's rarely more than an hour or two. That's where traffic matters for me.
That’s because you guys keep coming over and posting this same post. Which is what a cultish echo chamber does. Which is why era seems so active. It’s a few hundred people repeating the same thing over and over and over and over....
As above, it's not the same few people. I also don't think it's the Resetera users coming here and causing that. It is with THIS thread as it was made specifically to get them to post while Era was down--so GAF was asking for it this time by leaving this thread up. But they are rarely posting in the dedicated thread in the Offtopic Community era. That's a few active members here who seem to spend a lot of time scouring Era (or Kiwifarms) for crazy shit to post and discuss. There's maybe one or two Era members who sometimes post to argue with them, but that's it. I don't have a problem with that thread personally. It's hidden away in a dead communities area (dead other than that thread anyway) and keeps that silliness out of sight. It was also a useful thread for finding some of this site's idiots who need ignored.
In any case, this forum feud is silly and pathetic and should really end. People here should focus on posting more meaningful threads and helping get activity back up. Most say they're glad all those people left. If so, stop going over there and looking at the nonsense and coming back here to post about it. Just ignore the site if it's not for you and spend your energy making this community better by posting about game news, starting OTs, posting in OTs and posting whatever in OT (movie news, sports threads, funny threads, whatever). As above, this sites main issue is it's just too damn slow (out side of politics which I have no interest in) for people like me that spend a lot of time online and want quick replies to things pretty often. It also lacks content with many big releases, and pretty much no niche releases, even getting OTs. And when ones get made (like my Dead Cells one) they drop like a stone if it's not a huge game like RDR2.
There just doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in talking games on here. Politics is by far the most active area and in gaming the most active threads outside the rare AAA OT like RDR2 are either threads of console war bickering or the same type of social/political issue threads you'd see on Era (Jaffe thread, censorship thread etc.) with just more balanced views. There's nothing like the regular, robust OT communities that made GAF so great before and are what keep most people on Era now. That will have to change if the site is to move beyond what it is now.
