Apparently “real” PS5 startup, possible devkit.

So, they're not using the Super-Fast-SSD™ for the bootup or what's the reason it takes so long?

They say console wars reached their height of immaturity and pettiness during the 16 bit era, but here we have a 3 page thread about a console powering on.

It will never change. The only thing that changes overtime are the players. The struggle will always be part of the human condition.

if all of these leaking things are real PS5 is going to be the worst console ever. I don't know what to believe anymore.
Same Load Speeds as Series X, <660gb disc space, 10tf, 77+€ games, small vents making huge noise, dynamik 4k and "aiming" for 60fps, No Smart Delivery for all games, no defined backwards compatibility.....like, it's really going down..

I do like an iconic startup. Hopefully they give an option of an instant start up, an abbreviated one and a long one. Would be really cool if they offered all the old PS startup sounds to stoke that nostalgia. PS1 PS/PS1 SCE/PS2/PSP/PS3 OG/PS3 Slim/Vita/PS4 etc. I'd pay Sony ten internets if they licensed a Dreamcast startup option! :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

What you can believe is facts from official, credible sources instead of random internet rumors:
-The real PS5 loading times we know are from Kena, Demon's Souls and Ratchet & Clank. All are under 2 seconds, matching the PS5 official specs that lead us to think all loading times all for native PS5 game should be under 2 seconds.
-PS5 loading speed is over 2x faster than Series X, we can expect faster BC loading times too (there they may not be under 2 seconds because maybe they aren't using some of the new tech like compression or because to emulate old tech may cause bottlenecks, but SSD is still over twice faster than the Series X even if only using raw speed, so BC games should load faster on PS5).
-As of now the 660GB of free disk space is a random internet rumor, take it with a ton of grains of salt
-Teraflops are a theorical maximum peak of power to do certain tasks which are only a portion of the important ones. Consoles and PCs achieve only a % of this potential peak power depending on the bottlenecks. Sony took a big effort to remove bottlenecks in PS5, and also other types of important GPU tasks instead of teraflops depend on GPU frequency and PS5 has a bigger one than Series X. So we'll have to see with real results which console has a bigger final performance on next gen AAA multiplatform games.
-77+€ games will have the same price in Series X, and depending in which stores they will be way cheaper. At least here in Spain supposed 80€ games are being in some retailers at 70€ and even for some days Demon's Souls was at 60€, and this is even before release.
-We don't know how big are going to be PS5 fans, this is a random pic from an unkown internet user. If you want a photo of a huge vent here you have one.
-We don't know how noisy is going to be the PS5. We know they made a big effort when designing it to have a great ventilation system and to keep its temperature constant in all cases (even inventing a new system to control how GPU/CPU console boost and frequency works), and included so fucking huge heat sinks looking at their patents and console size.
-Like in the next gen exclusive AAA Series X games, that we didn't see because if the 'first 2 years of MS Series X games will be crossgen during 2 years' promise is true they won't be released before November 2022, there will be games with fixed native 4K, others with dynamic resolution -even if most of the time use 4K-, others with lower native resolution, some at locked or unlocked 60fps or 30fps (no games always run 100% of the time at the same fps, so often they say 'aiming' because they all have drops in certain parts).
-They said backwards compatibility will cover 99.9% of the PS4 games, or at least of the thousand of games they tested for it (out of 4000+ games available for PS4+PSVR). They also announced it will have a PS4 Pro-like boost mode, similar to what we saw in Series X, that increases fps for games that aren't capped, increases the resolution for games with dynamic resolution, and reduces loading times. For all 1st party (and in more 3rd party games than in Series X) known cross gen games if you own the PS4 version they will give you the PS5 version for free (like in MS it doesn't cover remasters or remakes).

This calmed me down, muchos gracias Señor

Why wouldn't anyone be surprised by these boot times?

Booting isn't just copying the OS into memory. The boot has to turn on all the devices in the system, run validation checks, and do a whole bunch of other tasks to get the system ready for usage. Copying the OS into RAM is probably just a sliver of the total time.

People are so silly man and honestly sound salty. You have Demon souls and ratchet and clank literally showing how fast load screens or transition screens to new areas can be in real time, ON NEW GAME engines not some boosted last gen game, NEW ASSETS built from the ground up. You have Ps5 demonstrating ray-tracing in games, and yet people want to focus on dynamic 4k? LOL pathetic, whatever happened to just using the good old eyeball test? If it looks good it looks good, if it seems fast its fast. Wheres all the fuss about the most "powerful" console having to get raytracing patched in at a later date on next gen games? whats up with that? people are going to really be butt hurt when they find out the flops talk isnt going to be a separation like they want, and ill have my popcorn ready.

I don't think is real... The animations look "similar" but it is not the same.

The video in the OP is a boot (I'm assuming from completely powered down - I expect a warm boot to be faster than that) via the PS Button on the controller. The video you posted appears to be the same boot sequence, but initiated via the power button on the console. The same thing happens with the PS4. If you power on the console with the power button ON the console, it'll take you to a screen asking you to press the PS button on a controller.
