Apple confirms iPod "Special Event" on September 5th

not really. to do internet stuff on ipod touch you still need wifi. To do it on iphone you just need GPRS. pretty big difference. but yeah.. for people who don't do a lot of gprs and are ok with a separate phone, the ipod touch will be just as good in every other aspect.

It's the same thing with me, I wasn't too big on the iPods before the original Nano, I thought they were too big and fat, but then the Nano came out, it was thin and had an appealing shape with the same sleek design as the normal iPods (and not the ugly look of the Minis) and that basically bought me into the iPod hype.

But iPod touch looks amazing, probably going to be expensive though :(

For college kids with free WiFi everywhere on campus, this thing will be freakin' huge. Sold my Apple stock way too early.
 
Considering the iPhone isnt out in europe yet, if this isnt coming out over here the same time as USA i will be fucking pissed

UNCONFIRMED: A reader just bought the 8GB iPhone for $399 and 4GB iPhone for $299 in an Apple store just now. Possible price drop?

iPod Touch: uhm, nice I guess, but... it's an iPhone - phone + wifi. It's like, iPhone should have Wi-Fi. And this will be too expensive at a guess.

Yes I can attest to this. fuckin' wi-fi all over the place. I'm getting one of these asap.
 
No e-mail on it either, which I use a ton on my iPhone. The two products compliment each other well, and the Touch doesn't eliminate the usefulness of the iPhone at all. My third most used App on iPhone is Google Maps too, behind Mail and Safari. Don't see that on the Touch either.
 
It's clear all the people who say "What's the point of the iPhone now?" Are those enthralled with the technology and never would have seriously considered one as a phone.
