oh man, they're really putting the hurt on early iphone adopters today...
Why? I don't feel hurt at all, for me the iPhone still represents the best combination of all the things I want.

EDIT: I just saw the price drop. Okay that hurts a bit :)

Starting today effective immediately, we're pricing it at just $399." HUGE applause.

What a bunch of apple-polishers...
How is that apple-polishing? It's a HUGE price drop. I guess I wouldn't be clapping too much if I was in that audience and I'd paid $599 for the 8gb two months ago... heh.

$200 price drop! Ouch! I love my iPhone, but damn that's a steep drop in price so quickly. I am feeling a bit bent over here Apple!

OH FUCK. :lol That's what I get for giving in to my technolust. :D

There's nothing better to remind us of that than to have a musician come perform for us: a really talented young musician, flew in from across the pond, KT Tunstall.

Rumor was true :lol

Most of the people in that audience own enough apple stock to make up the $200 then some.

iPhone wins the conference, seriously.

No shit. I'm actually very surprised at this. A $50 or even $100 price drop, and I wouldn't be so pissed, but $200 is really sticking it to the early adopters. Big time.

Whats with all the hate for the iPod touch, I kind of like it. I'm fine with 16gb.

The heirarchy of ipods goes like this:

Shuffle - For a day's playlist at the gym

Nano - For casual listeners who want an ipod cheap

Ipod - For music lovers to take their entire collection everywhere

Touch doesn't have a clear music-centric niche.

Ouch. I'm going to stick with my 30GB 5th-gen iPod for now. I'll take another look when they do a model refresh and manage to sneak the micro-HDDs into the Touch.

Okay, fuck iPod Touch.......$400 iphone wins (especially considering they will probably have refurbished ones for $300).

Up until this point, I was going to say that they had done a great job of balancing their product line and making sure that no single product overwhelms another. But now they've pretty much killed the 16gb iPod Touch. Sure it's got twice as much capacity as the iPhone, but if you're going to have to compromise capacity either way you might as well get the one that has a phone included.

So, how do you unlock an iPhone again?

Eh, I dont know about the iPod Touch now that the iPhone is only 399. I might have to suck it up and get one.

I don't think its that expensive for existing AT&T customers to upgrade to the iPhone plan either.

:lol

I just told my co-worker about the $200 price drop and her jaw hit the floor. She bought the phone the day it came out. She knew it would have a price drop, but not this soon and not $200!!!!

This is all very exciting, but nothing to get me to replace my 8gig Nano or 60gig "classic". Now, if/when either of those shall die on me I have something to look forward to. I was just hoping to spend some extra money now, not later.

Apple's doing all the right things. The only problem is those things are being divided among 4 different products when all I really want is 1 or 2.

I can't get over how reamed you iPhone owners are right now. I'm pointing and laughing, right this very moment! LOL!

Damn... $200 price drop on the 8GB iPhone? At $599, there was no way I'd get one. At $399... damnit, that gets FAR more enticing. GRR.

You don't get it - the early adopters pave the way for early price drops. They recoup r&d costs more quickly allowing drops for the rest of them. Platinum titles?

If you have a corporate phone this could be a good alternative, but otherwise you're right, the iPhone is the better deal.

Bullshit, you can say that after 6 months or a year, but this is incredibly lame.

Report out yesterday said the iPhone is selling great. It was the top smart phone in sales for July and tied for over all "featured" phone with the LG Chocolate. The analyst reporting even said that they upped their prediction for sales to 4.5 million iPhones this year.

Wow, I did NOT expect a $200 price drop. I wonder what this'll do for the European launch

Indeed, very interesting. Do they normally just replace the dollar sign for a Euro sign? 400 Euro for a 8gb Iphone is actually a competitive price in that segment, imo.

Btw, has anything been unveiled concerning the European Iphone launch yet?
