So I have the iPhone5,2_7.0_11A465_Restore_1429.ipsw file on my hard drive; is there a way to perform the update without removing all my current data from the phone?

Yup, through itunes.

In iTunes, hold down the alt or option key, and on Windows hold shift while clicking "Restore your iPhone/iPad" with the iOS 7 beta 6 file by.

Some users have reported that non-developers can hold down the option key or shift on Windows, and click the "check for updates" button instead to circumvent the verification process of the UDID (which if you are attempting to install an illegally downloaded copy of the iOS 7 beta, you'd need to do). Please note that I have not personally verified whether this works and don't condone it. If you do try to go this route, however, you may need to make sure the file name ends in ".ipsw" and strip off any other characters that may follow that file extension.

You'll see your iOS device reboot, with a progress bar filling in all the while. Be patient, because it can take a few minutes.

When the build is installed and verified, you'll see a few iOS 7 setup prompts, which you can complete to finalize your upgrade to the new UI.

After you install iOS7, you need iTunes 11.1, so that's where it needs it I guess. No syncing after you install unless you have the latest

Sorry if this was wasked before, but with one of the betas of iOS 7, I lost some messages and configs. Will the same happen if I update to the GM (from iOS 6)?

Assuming you're not JB'd.

Press update while hold shift (win) or alt (mac).

It will update and you will not lose or need to restore anything. And it's fast.

But you totally should backup before.

So it says on mine itunes that i cannot restore cause the firmware is not compatible, i have a iphone 5 6.1.4 A1429 and wanted to update to 7.0 GM A1429 what am i doing wrong?

I have an iPhone 5 that's jailbroken

Any reason I can't backup to iCloud, install the iOS 7 GM & then restore from iCloud?

So the GM for iOS 7 needs iTunes 10.1 beta. Is that the same one that's in Mavericks? Because my iTunes says it's 10.1b48. Is this enough for the GM?

I'm using iTunes 11.0.5 and it works to install and sync with ios7 gm just fine form me.

I just used the 'Check for update' in iTunes while holding the option key so I could select the upgrade file.

I'm watching the keynote. I think it's pretty bad (so far). Android comment seemed out of place, like Schiller's new schtick is saying a mouthful every keynote.

The slides that kick off each 5s big feature are so gimmicky.

Ughhh I feel so jaded

Kind of a bummer, I like scratches on my devices.

Me too. I had to return my original iPhone 5 because the Sleep button broke and there was something in the camera lens, but it was really nicely scuffed all around the edges. The Apple Store clerk was like, "This is the nicest looking scuffed phone I've ever seen. It's like... the Millenium Falcon."

My current (3rd) iPhone 5 has been dropped to hell and back and there are no scratches or chips at all.

;__;

So you only need the beta iTunes if you care about transferring data using it?

I never use iTunes so I should be good to go right?

Edit: On the subject of scuffs, I try to take really good care of my phone, but I don't use a case (they're hideous), and I do like the natural wear and tear it gets.

It makes it feel more like a prop from something like Blade Runner, if that makes sense.
