• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Are you going to buy PS4 Pro?

Not this year. Already spending enough money that I shouldn't for PSVR.

Maybe next year sometime if it ends up really making a significant difference in enough games.

Yeah I'll get it. I have a gaming PC so the Scorpio is a non entity for me. I think it's going to cost a lot or they'll have to eat their words on the promised performance. The Pro is a nice boost for only 400 bucks.

I'm hovering over the preorder button and it sounds dumb but the lack of a White option is stopping me from biting the bullet.

Not dumb at all. If i wanted this thing i wouldve waited for white too.

I actually sold my white ps4, since i got a 20th anniversary ps4.

Yup, pre-ordered already but just cancelled my PS VR pre order.

Will be making the benefits on my 1080p TV for now until I get a 4K HDR for gaming next year.

Yeah, I think I will. Not straight away, though.

It's pretty plain that the extra 1080p-version improvements are going to be standard going forward, with the leaked documents stating that every PS4 game released after October will have to have extra Pro functionality. I don't intend to get a 4K/HDR TV set since I only got my current one a year ago, but even looking at those Rise of the Tomb Raider options illustrates that there's to be a lot of scope for technical improvements even at 1080p. I've a lot of PS4 exclusives to look at starting next month, so I'm certain I'd get the benefit of the new console.

I was all set on getting a slim but just the $100 difference between the two models is making me double minded. I'll probably wait it out till Nov and get a Pro day 1.

I guess I have a few PS3 RPGs like Cold Steel 2 to keep me occupied in the meantime.

Me too, and that is perfectly fine. Just seeing the options the Pro will have with Rise of he Tomb Raider is amazing. Getting to choose between 1080p 60fps and 1080p 30fps with boosted effects is awesome. I'm also a PC gamer, so I love choices. Bet your ass I'll be playing games like Horizon Zero Dawn at 60fps.

If it will improve bloodbornes framerate then i will consider it. They seem to be focusing on the 4k stuff which i dont care about.

I'm just going to wait and see, my PS4 is mostly used as a media player at the moment so dropping more money seems pointless.

I'll wait and see what real difference it makes to games as they come out running at 1080p as I don't even have a 4k TV.

All feels a bit underwhelming really.

Man, they really messed up their messaging didn't they? I don't want to think about how the casuals will react...

(4K is just an option, you will get plenty of nice graphic/ frame rate upgrades with an regular HDTV.)

This is why they didn't call it PS4K despite the name being badass. People don't listen.

I have a 4K TV, but even then I'm not sure it's worth it for me personally.

The temporal solution for larger retail games IS better than 1080p now. That being said my set upscales content really well. So I'm just not sure presently that it's $399 better for me.

I'd rather budget that money else where.

The key to remember is that like the OG PS4 and the new Slim the Neo won't be $400 forever. It'll have sales, bundles, and price drops over time. So just cause I'm against it now doesn't mean in the future I wouldn't be interested if I could get a deal.

PS: This is based on what we actually got. I'd rather the Neo not exist and get a PS5 sooner. Yet we got what we got so people need to roll with what the landscape actually is.

Yeah, I hope it's not super hard to implement so that more games will offer those options since mid-gen upgrades seems like it will be a thing going forward.

Probably a few weeks after release. Sure, 4K Blu-ray is not that big of a deal to me, we never buy movies and regular Blu-ray is fine. But I will express fake outrage to appease people.

Need to see more evidence and comparisons of games running on the pro at 1080p. If it shows enough improvements i'll get it this year. If not it'll be a replacement for my PS4 if/when it breaks.

Yes, if I can afford it, on day 1.

I am a PS4/PC player mostly these last few years, with a nice sprinkling of Wii U and the classics.

In case you were wondering...

Their messaging was just fine. What you're leaving out of this comment is that those "nice graphic/rame rate upgrades with an regular HDTV" is entirely dependent on whether developers decide to bother with them. Devs may not bother at all. Or it may be a good six months to a year before they start really offering games with better 1080p fidelity over the OG PS4. Or it may not become something that happens until they have to also deal with PS4, PS4P, Xbox One S, and Scorpio all on the market at the same time. It's hard for me to imagine many multiplatform devs putting in the extra effort to make their game look prettier on ONE device when they already have to deal with developing for multiple devices.

There's only a very short list of forward compatible games at the moment, plus there's a series of mandates about frame rate parity for multiplayer titles, and so on. Until we know how many devs get on board with design decisions similar to the one being made by Crystal Dynamics for ROTR, the only short term reason to immediately buy a PS4P is for the 4K functionality.

Yep, preordered it

Very disappointed about the lack of 4K blu-Ray but it's a gaming device foremost and I already have a bunch of games that will be upgraded on it.

no, I don't see what makes it worth spending $400 to play the same games I can play on my existing ps4. The only reason I was going to buy it is if the showed a noticeable performance increase and played 4k uhds

Probably not.

I don't have a 4K TV and I'm happy with my launch PS4. It fits all my gaming needs. If it ever craps out on me, then I'll upgrade. Hopefully my current console lasts me until the inevitable PS5 comes out.

Not sure yet.The price is very good but i don't own a 4k tv and i'm happy with the 1080p tv that i own.I need to see the difference on the games i am interested in first.

Day 1, giving my girlfriend my launch PS4 so we can play together on non-splitscreen games and she can stop hogging it :P not sure how bothered I'd be otherwise.

Yep, just got mine pre-ordered. I am not gonna dive into PC gaming so I want to extra horse power to help out my PS VR. The wallet is gonna be smoking by the time all is said and done this fall.

Was going to buy it and a 4K TV when it came out, but I'm not going to now that it won't support UHD Blu-Rays. I already own an Xbox One and I don't feel like upgrading to the slim, so I really wanted the Pro to be my 4K media device mainly.

Not likely. I'm going to hold out for a while to see if FFXIV gets announced for Xbox and if so I'm switching platforms.
