Well AC4 arrived from Gamefly and the demo was suitably gimped.
1. You can totally customize controls. That's a bonus. Although From Software not allowing the D-Pad to used independent of the thumb sticks is silly.
2. There is a brightness adjust in game! Unfortunately the game is so heavily filtered that adjusting brightness only blinds you; it doesn't actually make the shit that's hard to see any less hard to see.
I miss being able to choose a custom color for the HUD. Having a white HUD on stages with a high level of white, it makes seeing your HUD impossible at times.
Missions are suitably tough.
So far all of the weapons I've tried suck nuts.
On-line implementation is total ass. It very much reminds me of the shit I experienced on Bomberman DS. Choose a game type, choose a region, and press OK.
No server / game list.
Once you're in a game. No voice chat. No text chat. Only pre-canned phrases which is completely unacceptable. It also sucks that you cannot tweak AC designs in Versus mode like you could previously. You can choose a new AC, but you can't just strap on a new gun if you want.
On-line play, the part where you're shooting each other is great.
I'm not certain if I'd buy this. On-line play, the part I was most interested in, is total ass. It's worse than some early PS2 on-line titles, TMB in this case.
Hopefully they fix all this shit in the inevitable sequel. There's absolutely no excuse for such shit on-line play in this day and age, even if you are a Japanese developer that's had you head up your own ass for the past five years.
