Additionally a PS3 demo will be available on the PSN store soon.
At least that's what the latest Sony mailer claims.

purgeface said:I just put in about 5 hours in one sitting. At first I really was not feeling this game, mainly due to the controls. But after a little bit of practice, they don't bother me anymore. I'm having more fun doing the data pack fights, than the actual missions though.
Some questions, what is the best way to build your own mech? Should I just load a schematic and customize from there, because this is far more confusing than Chromehounds right now. And what are some of the better all around weapons to use?
Also, how the hell do you beat the Aerial Interdiction mission in chapter 3?
Other than that, I'm enjoying the game and hopefully I'll see some of you guys online soon.
Treo360 said:Same here Purg, the controls are a bitch, and I'm having a problem on settling on a certain control scheme.
I've only touched the 1st mission and have been spending more time testing than playing. I sorta like it though.
bigswords said:Try out control scheme B (typical fps shooter style controls) and turn off auto-switch weapon.
I find the PS3 controller not really comfortable when I am boosting and firing both left and right weapons wished there was a button for alpha strike (in mechwarrior it means fire all weapons at the same time)! But after saying this (my first experience of armoured core is the psp version which had really impossible control system). If I compared it to that the controls now are much much much more tighter and even newcomers (like myself) can at least attempt to pick up and play. BTW boosting/flying is a must in online, it's like not knowing how to circle strafe in a fps game.
Other then that the short missions so far are quite ok to me, it's more of a online game then a single player experience. The really fun bit is tweaking your Next to the max.
But it's still fun and I dont think it deserves such a slow review score.
Edit: Does anyone know the difference between the 2 lock on systems? I keep accidentinally activing the non default one and I really wish to disable that (hold left thumbstick but cant, just checked the control scheme)
Treo360 said:Though my Next' stats weren't all that great either
91atk
61mob
78 def
59 ap
However it did the job.
This game could've been much more, however the limited amount of missions coupled with the fact that I think I had a harder fight with the camera as opposed to the other Next units at times. The story presentation sucked, hell the story sucked period. From really needs to hire writers.
In the end I had fun, and that's all that matters. Just need to tidy up on some missions to obtain A/S rank across the board, plus fine tune my Next so that I can get my ass handed to me in Multi.
bigswords said:Shit those stats are impressive to me, i am equal to your mob (mobility is it?), def and AP but my attack is way lower.
For fighting the simulated Nexts I used the biggest nade launcher that could be mounted on the back, 5-10 shots usually takes one down easily (think of it as a rocket launcher in quake).
Ohh I am having trouble in the 3rd chapter so it's nade launcher and plasma rifle? I am having ammo issues
But yes the game is fun.
Treo360 said:I'll take a pic and write down the weapons that I have equipped. Which mission is giving you trouble?
bigswords said:Starting with the defend the exec of GA to take off on his plane, I ran out of ammo halfway, used the oversize cannons on my back and 2 rifles.
Probably I need an equipment change what weapons you reckon would fit? I have no idea how to use missles though.
Treo360 said:Concentrate on trying to get to the helo's BEFORE they unload the normals. I take out the first two waves quite easily (you must learn to use the missiles!) the last wave I get before they come close to the jet, only a few stragglers get through.
bigswords said:Ok thanks, so I guess I will load missles for that mission, just buy the biggest and greatest lock on ones?
So for using missles, I just have to down the trigger till more targets light up red and let go? Or do I just spam? I am confused on that bit and the manual, well doesnt really say much.
Ohh do you know how to tweak the cpu ? Or did you just use the auto configure?
Treo360 said:I let the comp auto configure, also make sure you use the FC chip that gives you an almost equal amount of time for lock on for both your guns and missiles, I'll have to look it up, that way you can pretty much spam them once you obtain a lock.
bigswords said:OK thanks, I think I got that FC chip it's the most expensive one available the description says "Fast lock on" wished there were more stats or something, I am glad that buying and selling wont induce a loss.
Treo360 said:I'm going to upload photos in a few minutes, downloading them now.
Treo360 said:As for the back weapons I originally had the Plate01 missiles which did the job quite well. I also use the Yellowstone FC chip for my targeting as I feel it gives me pretty good range with a good lock on speed for your mains and great lock on for missiles.
drohne said:treo -- i just unloaded laser cannons (which have high pa penetration) into the cannon's shielded core. it went down really quickly -- i think it's a matter of weapon choice.
i'm really liking the online game. i cleaned up in a few 1 on 1 unranked games, and then headed overconfidently into ranked games and got trashed a couple times, once by a core so fast and maneuverable that i hardly saw him after that intial face-off. :lol
then i played a ranked 4-man deathmatch, and got all three kills. which was awesome. right now i'm mainly using a core with a heavy laser cannnon on each shoulder -- it's really energy-efficient and it's got a huge generator, so i can stay up in the air and boost quite a bit while keeping those cannons going. probably hasn't got the ammo for larger skirmishes, but it's fun to pilot. i've actually got a bunch of new parts to experiment with -- kojima rifles, a really long laser sword that i might actually manage to hit someone with, outboard pa rectifiers.
it's a shame that more gafers aren't playing this. those of us who are playing should post our gamertags/psn ids. and it's definitely a shame that there's no clan support.
i'm 'drohne' on xbl.

Armored Core as a series of games, outside of Japan at least, has always had a tough time of wooing the journalistic throng and punters alike. On the one hand you have the people who think the game is clumsy and difficult to control and then you have, well, ninjas who take to the games like mechanical ducks to water.
From a Western perspective, Armored Core is a third person action game that has restrictive environments, hideously complex customization and counter-intuitive controls. Alternatively, in Japan at least, the games are thought to be very focused in terms of their level design, contain comprehensive customization and very thorough controls.
The emphasis in games such as Armored Core is empowering the player through their own effort and understanding of how the game works and how it should be played. The environments are meant to be boxed in to denote a level of futility to the players progression. After all its very common in anime series to have the protagonist strategically set-up by the enemy and have them survive overwhelming odds. This approach to having a limited environment and forcing the player to commit to a difficult encounter is the gaming equivalent of what occurs in an anime narrative.
Just picked up the PS3 version on the cheap.

Oh, you were playing the demo. That explains it. The demo sucks, and doesn't really represent the final game. Seriously, rent it, and give the full thing a spin. If you're an AC fan, I can't imagine you not liking it. Loved it myself. All it really needed was more parts, and more robust online play. The Take Out Bandit said:Yeah, can't quite monkey around with your load-out in demo. I may rent it if Hollywood has it in stock.

BudokaiMR2 said:But I guess as an AC fan you are just used to crap ones...
Yeah, the missions have always been crap. I guess the low expectations there helped. The problem is AC isn't suited for long missions, and its hard to develop something beyond the normal destroy / defend that fits in that time frame. Same with the story really. It's not something I particularly care about, but I can see how it could be a negative mark to someone else.BudokaiMR2 said:And better missions. But I guess as an AC fan you are just used to crap ones...
Have you played them on hard? They get longer... though not by a whole lot. Most of the really short ones are the initial missions, and the others are longer, but they all are meant to be short and to the point. It would be interesting for them to take on more of a campaign structure instead of missions, but that would be a pretty different direction to take the series.BudokaiMR2 said:Yeah I guess I just wish through the 11th iteration(I honestly have no idea how many there have been) they woulda started coming up with better ones.
I have just been even more annoyed at the AC4 ones so far. There have been ones that were over in like 20 seconds. It three times that to load!
