Chromehounds, a sub par online experience?! HERESY!!!!!Enron said:Oh wow. 4 reviews out now, and all 4 shat upon this game. This sounds like the end of the Armored Core franchise. Sad. I was waiting for this after my sub-par experience playing Chromehounds online, and now I am disappointed yet again.
I havent played a really, really, rock-my-face-off Mecha game since Heavy Gear II. I wish someone would resurrect that franchise.![]()

Man, you kids still haven't learned; have you? :lol
Combine the hilarity of people expecting this to be the second coming of ZoE2, and the fact you're placing credence on the reviews that have historically been shit regardless of the actual quality of the games.
AC is a series though, and if you don't have someone reviewing who knows the series, then it's the same as getting someone who knows nothing about football covering the next Madden. They might come in expecting the game to work in a certain way, and be unwilling to adjust to the way it's meant to be played. Not saying it's the case here, but that's usually how the AC series suffers in the reviews.Enron said:Say what you want about the review sites, but when all of them shit upon a game like this its usually a bad game. Not many of the user reviews i've read on forums have been positive, either.

Yep, for those unfamiliar - ZOE : Burnout :: Armored Core : Gran TurismoKTallguy said:QFT, Armored Core is a fun series if you're willing to sit down and learn it. It's not pick up and play friendly. It's also got a lot of complicated sim elements that will turn off people.
I love the game and will be picking it up on Friday.

Japan's marketplace has a demo.Cedeo said:there's no demo on marketplace?
I live in the Uk.. ?
I'll get my japanese copy tomorrow. What's the media archive though?Ignis said:Af anyone picks up a copy of the 360 japanese version, could he/she please tell what's in the Media Archive and if it's worthy to pick up ?
Thanks !
Ok so there is a DVD, with all the trailers released starting E3 05. Meh. And a story booklet.Ignis said:Sorry I messed up with the name... it is actually called "Extra Archive" ^^'
It's the preorder bonus.
From the pics I saw, it's an artbook with a DVD and stickers.
But I absolutely don't know what they put inside...
Edit : Okay, now I found
http://www.armoredcore.net/ac4/campaign/index.html
I'll still be waiting for your first play comments tomorrow ^^
Count me in for the PS3 version; I loved Nexus. I'll let the graphics tarts and next-gen bandwagoners argue on about which version has better graphics...theultimo said:Quicker Play, overboosting is not needed much anymore.
AP levels changed, new system for energy/damage, controls like Nexus.
Arena still = freaking hard, however you have access to all parts to install without having to buy them (saved only for mission mode)
m0dus said:I will say this: Holy shit, the targeting is aweful. I mean the autotargeting demonstrates no logical priority that I can see, and when it's shut off, it STILL seems to be on, as I can't lock onto a specific target at all (you want to shoot that giant rail-cannon? go right ahe--whoops! looks like you're shooting the worthless gun turret next to it now. Mission Failure!)
Diablohead said:I want to know how online handles and if its fun also, like other AC games offline is realy dull and just gets done to unlock parts for the arena stages, etc. For what I remember anyway it's been a long time.
Also any word on region free? It would be a nice game to import and save money on.
I thought the US copy hit shelves just the other day?bigswords said:Which version are u looking for? The Japanese and Asian version are both only in Japanese language.

for the fence sitters who have played past AC games and didn't really like it but where thinking of taking the next-gen plunge because WOW PRETTY GRAPHICS! ... i'd recommend saving your money...
FTWer said:really? can you post anything more than a non informative blurb about why it should be skipped?
so far I only really heard:
-short missions
-auto targetting sucks
what else

I dunno, for someone who's loved mech sims all their life (Started on Mechwarrior 1 baby!), it's hard not to recommend this. You'll find it annoyingly hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, stick with it, use four fingers on the top triggers while aiming with the analog stick to target (get used to this at the beginning or you'll cripple yourself later), and have fun with it!
m0dus said:I'd be interested in getting people together tonight to run some games online (I'll host)
Xbox 360, of course. Interested parties (if anyone else has it yet), reply away.

The missions dont seem to have any context, and most of them last 30 seconds. What is this garbage? What did I just buy?

purgeface said:I just put in about 5 hours in one sitting. At first I really was not feeling this game, mainly due to the controls. But after a little bit of practice, they don't bother me anymore. I'm having more fun doing the data pack fights, than the actual missions though.
Some questions, what is the best way to build your own mech? Should I just load a schematic and customize from there, because this is far more confusing than Chromehounds right now. And what are some of the better all around weapons to use?
Also, how the hell do you beat the Aerial Interdiction mission in chapter 3?
Other than that, I'm enjoying the game and hopefully I'll see some of you guys online soon.
