I'm not sure what you mean by that. The Franks during the crusades already didn't see the Syrians as racially different from themselves and intermarried with them pretty freely.
Historically speaking, Middle Eastern people were a lot darker. Hence why there's a lot of discussion about if Jesus were black or white, with most scientific theories siding that he wouldn't have been white enough to be considered "white".
They said the game wasn't selling well when it wasn't selling well. They came out later when the sales improved and changed their statement accordingly, I posted that link earlier.
Okay. But that's one good-selling female led game amongst a sea of white male protag well selling games.
That's fine. I hope it works out well for you and I'm glad this is the turning point when you will no longer play games with male protagonists. Since you have no history to back up what your saying I am a little skeptical, but I hope you do keep it up. As I said earlier not buying AC unity but then turning around and buying Uncharted 4, Halo 5, or Arkham Knight isn't helping anything. But clearly the list of games you plan on buying are in line with your beliefs.
I want REPRESENTATION, not "there can be no more white straight male player characters!" If you honestly think there can't be a middle ground, then that's your issue.
Unity has already failed by not allowing the CUSTOMISABLE PLAYER CHARACTER to be female. The trailer showcasing the female character seems to be nothing more than damage control. It's especially ignorant of Ubi to not allow a female PC when the most famous assassin from that period was female, and is why we have this iconic painting:
So you think the developers changed what would likely be a huge part of the story solely for damage control, and did so in under, what, a month? Because that's what you're saying, which is insane. That, or they made a long, extremely detailed CGI trailer with an added female to advertise the game, but have no plans of adding her to the real game, and did so in a months time.

Video games are basically wish fulfillment so it shouldn't matter and considering how the universe that Assassin's creed has unfolded, i can't see how historical accuracy is even a concern anymore.
Great week to be a Wii U gamer. No Wii U announcement for either Resident Evil Remaster or Assassin's Creed Rogue.
Lacking of people owning a Wii U is a silly reason IMO because, according to ********, there are 6.8 million Wii U's in people's hands versus 5 million Xbox Ones. The install base is there. You just have to provide games to them.

Can we wait and see how important that female character is before we start saying that she is a major part of the story?
It's easy to focus on a single character that isn't really all that important for advertising purposes. See Rick Genest, in 47 Ronin:
He was included in pretty much all of the promotional material, and was actually in the movie for about 5 seconds.
Also CG trailers are usually outsourced to production companies who are experts at what they do.
Historically speaking, Middle Eastern people were a lot darker. Hence why there's a lot of discussion about if Jesus were black or white, with most scientific theories siding that he wouldn't have been white enough to be considered "white".
Only Altair was neither Jesus nor some kind of generic "Middle Easterner" meant to represent the region at large. He was a Syrian who looked pretty Syrian.
I wasn't always as aware of these issues as I am now. So yeah, you could look at my purchases from the last year and see that I've bought a lot of male protag games. But you know what? Going forward I'm going to try and buy less of them. Two of my most anticipated titles this year are Sunset Overdrive and Destiny - both of which let you play as either gender. Next on my list would be Dragon Age and Alien Isolation - which omg, both let you play as a woman. Wow.
So you can be sick of my "phoniness", but I can be sick of Ubisoft constantly shoving out white male protag games.

I really don't want to get into this never ending debate yall have going on, but I thought you don't customize any of the characters in Unity since your character will always be Arno. Did I miss something?

What's your point? You're just rambling, at first you had my ear as I fully agree it's disgusting that another white male and non female is character, but, now you're just going crazy.

Except that if Jesus existed then he was born 1190 years before Altair. If you're claiming that Syrians now look whiter than they did 2000 years ago, fair enough, but there is less time between AC's period and now than Jesus being born (as he is your prime example) and Altair being born.
You can always tell when people have run out of actual good arguments when they start attacking your character and trawling through your internet history.

As far as I know the only thing that you can customize is your clothing and equipment. Other players see what you have equipped, but your face model is selected at random out of 3 possible options. Every player sees themselves as Arno.

Definitely worth buying. I simply love arctic and snowy settings in games. While I agree that Ubisoft is starting to flood the market with quite a few AC games, no one is forced to buy them. As long as there's some kind of quality gameplay and story left, it's ok.
Oh and what the fuck is going on with this skin colour/gender discussion(I'm looking at you tghm1801) ? That's something I completely ignore when buying games. I could't care less what character I'm playing when I can't heavily customize the PC.
Female Assassins have been depicted as major characters in every single Assassin's Creed game. It's more or less a given that you're going to meet and interact with Charlotte Corday and more than likely be involved in some fashion with that particular assassination. Also, you can rest assured the red haired woman is an important character. She's a Templar and he's helping her avoid execution and there was the obvious implication of romance in that trailer.
Can we wait and see how important that female character is before we start saying that she is a major part of the story?

Sure. I'll hedge my bets on a major CGI trailer introducing a major character, and you can be opposite of that.
A CGI trailer that detailed/lengthy is not being made in a month. Even if it was, the game isn't going to be remade in three months to fit her in somewhere before release.

Unity doesn't have customisable players characters, even in multiplayer. You play as Arno. Always. Other players see themsleves as Arno too, and see you as a generic assassin wearing your equipement. Much like in Watch Dogs where you're always Aiden Pearce and you see other players invading your game as random citizens, while they see themselves as Aiden and you as a citizen.
You can always tell when people have run out of actual good arguments when they start attacking your character and trawling through your internet history.
You can customise how other players see you.
No, the point I'm making was that there is a clear historical basis for having female assassins in that era.
That is true. So I guess he'd be somewhere in the middle...
They actually have a screen now that shows the character others will see and you can customize that character, or you mean the single player customization's that carry over into coop (clothing and skills)?
Those are two different things. You aren't customizing your coop character, it's just copying the clothing Arno wears (so it would make sense if all other characters were modeled after Arno).
Ubisoft's AAA production teams treat female characters poorly.
ACIV:
Mary Read dies, after being captured and taken to prison - which Edward was apparently able to escape from.
Watch Dogs:
Clara dies after betraying Aiden in a really dumb way after promising to make it up to him.
AC Trilogy:
Lucy, the second most important character after Desmond, turns out to be nothing other than someone who seduced and betrayed him. And is then killed. + 1 for writing.
Meanwhile male side characters + the player character are white knights of hope and beauty, constantly being backstabbed/betrayed/dragged down by these girls.
Basically Assassin's Creed Black Flag 2, less ambitious game than AC:Unity (like AC3:Liberation), but still interesting for those who liked the boats+piratassassin gameplay and who don't have a PC/next-gen hardware.
I hope for a next-gen release though, Black Flag looked great on PS4.
You know they use historical characters and they don't change the nature or place of their deaths ?
You forgot AC:Liberation and many other female characters but yeah, a neogaf thread about AC/Ubisoft without reference to a past/totally off topic polemic isn't a real neogaf thread.

I'm not saying that she wasn't already in the game, but that her prominence in marketing materials was escalated. Also yes, a dedicated team of production professionals can make a CGI trailer like that in a month. Also if this is true:
and she is Arno's romance, then that's another win for Ubi's writing team as they reduce a female character to a romanceable character that, if history is anything to show, (Spoilers for ACIV, WD, AC Trilogy)
You can always tell when people have run out of actual good arguments when they start attacking your character and trawling through your internet history.
No it's simple, it shows your false outrage. You refuse to buy a ubisoft game because they don't allow you to play as a female, but yet your fine buying Ryse and the Witcher which also don't allow you to do the same?
Can you find a more hypocritical example? It shows that you have no issue with games not allowing you to play a female at all, but rather have an issue with Ubisoft and are using this as a way to knock them.
Like I said before it's not genuine and it's actually kind of embarrassing.

You're being ridiculous. Just because I am fed up of one publisher constantly releasing games starring white men doesn't mean that I can never buy another game starring a white man again.
Ryse was published by MS, which is a large publisher that has previously published games which allowed you to choose your race/gender/etc. I picked up The Witcher during a Steam sale, so I'm sure the £1 CD Project Red got from me will really influence their decision to make another game starring a dude. I'm hoping that C2077 will allow you to choose your gender, as they have said that it will have customisation options and it will be an RPG.
Ubisoft, on the other hand, has turned what should be one of the most diverse franchises in terms of playable characters into a white-dude-in-different-places simulator.

Digic Pictures, the company that actually made all Assassin's Creed trailers, told that Black Flag trailer took them about two months of full-steam production. And that's after all the animatic had been approved.
Aa, but Blur Studio, a production company that specializes in making CGI trailers, stated that an average three-minute trailer would take about three months to make.

Yes, that's true. But it doesn't change the fact that the only real prominent female characters in Ubi's games are written like that.
WD Spoilers:
Clara = a bitch, T-Bone = cool bro - because Ubi wrote them in such a way that you are disposed to like T-Bone and likely to hate Clara because she betrays you.

So the reviewers bashed the lack of playable female characters before giving the game a 10/10? Wow talk about outrage! How many people avoided buying the game because of it? Again, they must have been so outraged when they were driving to the store to stand in line and give up their money to play a game that they were so outraged at.
I'm sick of the phoniness of it all. People pick and choose when they want to be outraged about something. If you have an issue with male protagonists, that's fine. You have every right to do that and to not buy those games. But I would bet a quick glance at your game/dvd collection would prove otherwise.
Yup, for all the outrage GTA caused, it still sold 30 million plus and it'll likely end up selling more than 40 million. For all the outrage Unity is causing it'll still sell 10 million lifetime. If all this critism doesn't translate to sales loss, publishers will never change.
TR, while great, only managed 6 million or so, less than games like UC2/3, and TLOU (all three of which are exclusive).
That's true, but I'm sure they could've re-used many of the assets from previous Unity CG trailers.

Mary Read was a real person (as was Anne Bonnie), and
died in history in exactly the time and place and of the same causes
as depicted in the game. In any case, she was the one who turned Edward from an amoral rogue into a freedom fighter through her example and discussions with him. I don't think you can argue she was treated poorly. She didn't even do what people usually complain about to invalidate a female character, namely fall in love with Edward and then step back into his shadow. She was out doing her own stuff and had an entire side to her life that Edward never saw.
Watch Dogs is not Assassin's Creed.
Lucy Stillman was not intended
to die in AC: Brotherhood
. Her face, voice, and mocap actress Kristen Bell decided she didn't want to do the project anymore so they had to change the plot on a dime to accommodate the departure of a major character. And even then, she was not some painted as some seductress character. She was
a mole the Assassin's sent into Abstergo to spy for them who eventually came to resent the Assassins because she was not well supported by them and then found herself agreeing more with the philosophy and goals of the Templars, who she believed cared more about the plight of people. She genuinely liked Desmond but was loyal to her chosen cause.

That's just bullshit, stop grasping for straws. The idea that Ubisoft would make a CG trailer like that in a fucking month as a response to the people who were upset is ludicrous.
Clara = a bitch, T-Bone = cool bro - because Ubi wrote them in such a way that you are disposed to like T-Bone and likely to hate Clara because she betrays you.
The idea that you would look at a game and say "Does it have a female protagonist? No? Well then fuck it." is baffling to me. To each their own I guess.
It's called having principles. If they didn't come up with that canned excuse about "masculinity" and what have you, it wouldn't be so bad. Just like how Ubisoft made it worse with their "women are hard to animate" bullshit.
Women aren't even considered as a possible main protagonist in the Big Three Publishers. Sure, they'll "test the waters" with budget side titles, but God forbid they make the lead of their big game for the year a woman. It is just as stupid as animation studios not wanting a female lead because they don't think that boys will watch the show and buy the toys (toy companies are even worse, see Korra for this issue).

they could've got a new VA and kept her face the same - it's possible to map motion capture prompts onto a different face. See Avatar. Also, while her betrayal may have been justified, she was still the only major female character in a series that is mostly populated by dudes. So it was shitty of them to kill her off in such a character-tarnishing way.
As for Mary, AC has taken plenty of liberties with history. Connor throughout the whole of AC3 is pretty much the sole reason the revolution was successful.
WD is not Assassin's Creed. But I would say now we're talking about Ubi's general shitty treatment of female chars in their AAA games.
I'm glad you felt that way, but unfortunately I saw a lot on the internet about how much people
hated Clara, and when that concept art appeared for alternate Claras, people said they would much rather Ubi had gone with the big-boobied, luscious locks version.

Oh my god, what is so hard for you to grasp in the idea that I don't want every single game to star a woman/non white protag and that not all companies are doing what Ubi is doing?
I am not going to respond to any more of your posts.
