Batman: Arkham Origins PC Performance Thread

Some heavy chugging during the intro part when quickly moving to new areas, like noticably so even for an UE3 game, making the assumption here that it's loading stuff?

This was an experience killer for me the short time I played last night. Sometimes there would be 1-2 seconds of completely frozen gameplay while stuff loaded in. I rarely want to put games on my SSD besides Battlefield, but I moved this game to the SSD to see if it alleviates the problem when I play some more today. 2013 going on 2014, this kind of shit is unacceptable.

I have it on an SSD, doesn't change shit apparently, everyone is always talking about how UE3 is like THE engine that always works perfectly on pc, i don't see it, every single game has the same damn issues and the switch to DX11 only made things worse, like they shoe-horned in those effects fully realizing the engine couldn't handle it, terrible engine allround, hope developers stay the fuck away from UE4 and make their own engines.

This engine has been used by the majority of developers since the start of this gen and yet the issues that people have with it only got worse instead of better, blows my mind.

Damn, sucks to hear that. But may be a good thing as 19GB on the SSD is pushing things. I would much rather some old school Half Life 2 "Loading" pauses than the 5-10 seconds of hitching while stuff is happening on screen.

Sounds like UE3 loading/streaming. I personally haven't had any particular issues with it outside of doors that load into new zones (am running off a SSD).

So nobody else is having the cutscene issues like I am? I can't figure it out. The game itself runs great, but all the pre rendered cutscenes are choppy and out of sync. Any ideas at all?

Anyone getting weird issues with Nvidia. Using the new drivers, my OC is solid but I got a driver crash when i disabled vsync immediately. Restarted PC, played the game flawlessly after. OC is rock solid. Also had my GPU downclock permanently to 575mhz yesterday. Anyone have any thoughts? Most likely a game issue?

the game is 3d vision ready! no mention of it anywhere but it is, looks just as good if not better than the others in 3D, running 1080p, 4xmsaa, all settings maxed except DOF to normal (get occasional hitching on dx11) and of course 3D, it runs 45-60fps so far on 3570k, 8gb, 670sli.

really enjoying the small amount I've played so far

I've got an SLI 670 with i7 920 set up and I get pretty much the same experience. I find aliasing less noticeable in 3D vision on so I usually bump it down to FXAA and enjoy fewer frame dips.. although sometimes it's just the UE3 hitching thing.

I hate to make other people notice this if they were happily unaware, but is anyone else getting irregular but frequent screen flashes where the graphics are slightly distorted like this? (first flash at 11 second mark). The flashes are mainly noticeable in menus, but seem to be there all the time (although much less of an issue in 3d gameplay).

I've just started getting this after applying the GeForce Experience optimal settings. Not sure what it changed - the AA settings perhaps. Irritating.

awesome news! AC ran pretty good on my 5850 minus some strange jumps flying around the city. Is this with DX11 stuff on? I don't think I used any of that in AC because it didn't look much different.

nope dx11 stuff isnt worth it... I want 60fps just sweetfx

msaa and fxaa on low

I7 4770k

On a ssd

@1080p with latest geforce drivers.

Everything on max and the game runs amazingly well expect for the arena you fight
Deathstroke
in, the mist in there using physX just take a hit to performance but that is physX for you.

I hope they fix the random crashes to.

i5-3570
gtx 770 4gb
8gb of ram

Everything set on highest possible settings, except for AA, as I'm downsampling anyways. Constant 60 fps, some drops to 50fps here and there, where the action gets very intense. I'm more than happy. This game looks simply fantastic.

This game has to be one of the best looking games I've played with everything on Max. Especially with the PhysX, also probably the best implementation of PhysX - everything is there and makes sense in the world, it isn't a distracting "HEY LOOK AT MY COOL EFFECTS!" (although the fog/myst sometimes verges on being that in some indoor sections) there just to show it off in comparison videos.

I became a bit concerned about PhysX and how it was being used when NVIDIA seemingly went around those F2P titles and just got the developers to add the same APEX particle emitters everywhere. But with stuff like this, I think PhysX proves itself very much so.

Welp, I just discovered, that FXAA has no impact on performance, so now I'm happily using it.

It may be the best looking game I have ever played,

FXAA doesnt look horrible, but you know, some people gotta jump on the hate wagon, i rather use that than enable an AA method that's gonna eat up half of my frames

Yeah the blur associated with FXAA isn't bad at all, especially since you're getting very effective antialiasing for free.

TXAA, on the other hand, is horrid.

I think I will be injecting SMAA when I get this.

gtx 770 4gb
i5-3750 3.4GHz

So, to get constant 60 fps on my rig, I:

-shouldn't use that fancy PhysX stuff
-should have any kind of AA disabled

Is that right? I still have 3 more hours until I can play it, so now I'm thinking about best possible settings to get 60fps at 1080p.

When downsampling, what kind of AA should I use (if any)?
i5 750
770 GTX
8 GB RAM
Almost anything maxxed except 4xMSAA, normal Phys X and Adaptive V-Sync
60 FPS most of the time at 1080p, may try reducing it to 2xMSAA

I feel like a super old man but can you actually just install nvidia drivers over the old ones (both WHQL) without uninstall->delete the rest in safe mode->reboot and install and reboot once more? I have a gtx770 btw.

I feel like I fucked something up because if I turn up some of the DX11 features like geo or shadows or HBAO+, my framerate will occasionally drop to 30 from 60 for no reason unless I maybe jump into a menu or something and hope it jumps up to and stays at 60 after I exit.

So... PhysX with a 7970 doesn't work at all... Drops to 15 FPS as soon as physics stuff comes in. Is there any configuration in the PhysX software?

Hardware accelerated PhysX is only supported on Nvidia GPU's. If you're using an AMD card then PhysX calculations will be performed on the CPU which is extremely slow.

This is for anyone who's thinking about taking the plunge for their own geriatric machine.

I'm running this game at a steady 35-40 FPS (yeah yeah) on an ancient 4.5 years old low end Core 2 T9550 @ 2.8 GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB and 8GB DDR3 RAM laptop at 900p (Xbone quality baby!) with everything enabled. (except for AA, Ambient Occlusion, PhysX and DX11 features of course, the card is only DX10.1)

The first boss fight
Croc
did force me to disable Dynamic Shadows, Motion Blur, and DOF to get acceptable performance (dipped to below 30 FPS in that fight with all the particle effects) but other than that is been smooth sailing so far, relatively.

This is acceptable to me for the specs that I have. The framerate is actually better in this game as compared to Arkham City in general, especially when traversing the world (less stuttery); Arkham Asylum still holds the crown for best performance. Must be due to the lack of that Securom/GFWL bullshit that was present in its predecessor. Startup time is pretty damn quick too.

Anyone playing this with mouse/keyboard and noticing the camera turns are REALLY choppy? It doesn't seem related to performance.

During the game on some scenes the game locks to 30fps and the gpu usage is down to 50%. It will go up to 60 eventually but it is very annoying. Tried the framerate target from evga precision for 59fps and 60fps but this causes terrible tearing even with vsync on (in-game and from nvidia control panel). Also changed power management in nvidia settings to "maximun performance" but nothing happens. GPU stis dips to 50% usage frequently. Any help? Using latest drivers. Thanks

With Vsync on I only get locked 50fps according to MSI afterburner. It's also independent from the setting. Any way to get 60?

I got no option for High under Physx, could of sworn it was there earlier .... only nothing and normal are listed now.

GTX 680, any ideas? Newest drivers installed.

Very pleased with performance

i5 3570k @ 4.2
Gtx 680 SLI
16 GB Ram

1080p
AO: Off (never notice AO)
MSAA 4x
Physx : High

Frame rate average is eighty or so. If these profile settings and drivers work as well for BF4 I'll be in heaven on Tuesday.

Alt tab and back to the game works when this happens with Crysis. Going windowed and back to fullscreen is also a fix.

The volumetric fog effect is what kills physics on this game, snow looks beautiful and it really adds immersion to the game outdoors, I really wish the fog could be turned off and leave the rest on, funny thing is that the game runs perfect outdoors but indoors is when it takes the hit

Turn off vsync or use d3doverrider to force triple buffering.

Read my above post. Youre welcome :D

What's the refresh rate of your monitor?

My Tv has a refresh rate of 60HZ... Now that you say it... Does the game adopt to the refresh rate of the windows setting?

Alt tab and back to the game works when this happens with Crysis. Going windowed and back to fullscreen is also a fix.

Will try that. Thanks!

Edit: fuck it... My Tv only has 50Hz but also some 400HZ mode... (Which is bullocks)
Edit2: now I don't the internal refresh rate... My manual doesn't have that info...

Is no one else still having issues with cutscenes? At one point last night I was playing the GCPD level and two cutscenes played relatively smoothly, but today they're back to running horribly. Is there anything I can do?

People keep talking about how great the story is, but how can I enjoy it if I can't even watch fucking pre rendered movies? Is it because the cutscenes mask loading times? I'm really perplexed here and getting increasingly pissed off. There has to be some kind of fix.

so, is there any way on the INI of the game to disable the volumetric fog and just keep everything else on the high physx setting?

Any way to enable an FPS counter in game or do I have to use some external program overlay?

Game seems smooth as hell at 1080p with all in game settings maxed. Running a 760 with a 560 Ti as a dedicated PhysX card.

Man that group fight to find Penguin's location. Fraps was showing the fps hoovering around 40 but it felt much less. I know my CPU (Q9400) is (way?) below the recommended so i wonder if that the cause or i need to lower the settings (560ti). Would like to see benchmarks with those lower cpus.

This is just so incredibly frustrating. Got to the cutscene where
The Joker reveals himself
and it's a god damn slideshow with the audio 10 seconds ahead of the video. I alt+f'd out of the game, because I refuse to move forward until I can properly enjoy the story. It just pisses me off so much. I can play the game absolutely fine. Why the hell are the movies apparently so taxing? There has to be some sort of solution. I paid for the full game, I shouldn't have to watch the cutscenes on Youtube.

I emailed WB Games and I'm sure they won't do shit to help me.

AMD 13.11 beta 6

Batman: Arkham Origins - improves performance up to 35% with MSAA 8x enabled

Thanks! Definitely helped performance. I can actually use MSAA now without drastically taking a hit on framerate.

4x MSAA gives a minor performance hit now (AMD card - 7970) and 2x MSAA almost nothing...about the same as FXAA Low.

Just comparing now which is best of the two.
