Beach House is Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. We have been a band for over a decade living and working in Baltimore, MD. Depression Cherry is our fifth full-length record. This record follows the release of our self-titled album in 2006, Devotion in 2008, Teen Dream in 2010, and Bloom in 2012. Depression Cherry was recorded at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana from November ’14 through January ’15. This time period crossed the anniversaries of both John Lennon’s and Roy Orbison’s death.

In general, this record shows a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role. With the growing success of Teen Dream andBloom, the larger stages and bigger rooms naturally drove us towards a louder, more aggressive place; a place farther from our natural tendencies. Here, we continue to let ourselves evolve while fully ignoring the commercial context in which we exist.

I'll probably go to both Columbus and Cinci dates.

Can't wait. Album cover really evokes Cocteau Twins for some reason.

You can't believe how many times I went and searched for info about them. It's like they had disappeared since 2012.

So awesome.

More of Victoria's voice for me to bask in, to let soothe what ails me? Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes.

I still don't understand how Teen Dream and Bloom can be so similar, yet Teen Dream is so good and Bloom is so bad.

Anyways, I will definitely listen to this.

Looking forward to it. Maine to kick things off, too. They're surprisingly loud live; I am looking forward to seeing them again.

The real answer is that Bloom is just as good. Troublemaker is the only really weak track, and it's not like Teen Dream didn't have some questionable moments either.

YES!!!
Dublin show again for me, seen them in Vicar Street twice already.
Tickets on sale on Friday...

I like Bloom but Teen Dream is my favorite album of all time. It's not overproduced and has a lot of emotion to every song. I feel those emotions everytime I listen to it. Bloom has similar style but it doesn't have that emotional resonance Teen Dream does. I don't really know what Bloom is about. I hope the new album is closer to Teen Dream in that respect.

Bleh, what kinda crap is this. One show in Texas and its in Houston!?!?

Unless they are going to be added to the ACL lineup (which they will be in Houston days before ACL) this sucks.

Regardless, pumped for the new album.

From the note from Beach House themselves, they're going back to simpler melodies and stripped down instrumentation, which may point to a return of the earlier self-tited/Devotion style. Which, incidentally, is my favorite Beach House period. Their sound felt much more hermetic during those first two records.

Yea i love that style as well. I don't know if i should drop some lsd at their show or go sober.

This is the best news I've woken up to in a long time. Absolutely adore Beach House and the two times I've seen them have been amazing.

Excited for the new album. Teen Dream is one of my favorites, and while I didn't like Bloom that much at first, it's really grown on me since.

Nice. I've been waiting for this. Their show in Central Park (during a thunderstorm) was pretty fantastic--hope I can see them again.

I have been checking Beach house's page about once a month since last year seeing if they had a record announcement yet. Super stoked.

Excited for the album, but Beach House isn't my type of live band. Saw them a few years ago and was kind of bored.

welp. that track is missing pretty much every single element of beach house that i love (v's clear vocals and lyrics, piano melodies, beautiful & simple guitar riffs); when i saw the album cover i was like.. well, that kinda looks like a MBV throwback - I didn't think they'd go as far as to copy their entire "wall of blown out distortion" schtick, though. her voice was buried, the organ chords were ugly and the guitar (compared to their pevious body of work) was ridiculous. I've been down since Devotion and I've already bought my tickets for this tour, but damn I hope the rest of the album shifts moods.

Kinda agree. Not feeling this track at all. Why drown out Legrand like this? Was that even her? Could have been anyone.
