Despite my disdain for the console and its clumsy controller, I did enjoy Virtua Tennis 2 and MvsC2 (and a couple of arcade ports). The problem is that I couldn't keep playing only these games for years. You know, I was expecting a full fledged system where I could play more than a couple of games.

But I'm done with this. It's bringing me back memories of Shenmue's retarded level design and Sonic's utterly crappiness. That's too much for someone who needs to sleep in the next 30 minutes.

so... a system that got about a year + of life didnt keep bringing titles you could play years later. fuck, sega really let you down there, didnt it?

and yes, motion capturing asian countries and allowing for realtime NPCs, weather etc...that equates "retarded level design."
i dont understand; brazil makes some of the best porn, how did it also produce you?

Hey, hey. I´m not. But to be honest I´m not a traditional brazilian.

That´s two of us friend. Brazilian forums seem composed, in most part, by 13 year-old´s.

OT. I still remember the first time I saw Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur...

p.s. Blue Stinger was great.

p.s.2 And let´s not forget Shutokou Battle, fucking awesome.

Well, they were plain lies. Where are my real-time Toy Story-like graphics? Where's the marvelous AI with the "Emotion" Engine? Sony did what they could do. They had the entire market on their hands and promised the sky. Everybody believed them and were, obviously, disappointed.

But it worked, did it not? Most people didn't buy the Dreamcast because they were waiting for the PS2. I don't blame them, Sega showed horrible console support the last two generations, why would they believe in them this time around?

The fact that the media was eating it all up didn't help, either. Everybody was making articles with the same angle "Should you buy a Dreamcast or wait for the Playstation2?". I could go on and a parallel with PS3 and ask where's my 3-port gigabit router, 4D, 120FPS and Dual-HDMI, but apparently the media caught up on Kutaragi's pipe dreams this time around. :D

Goddammit, I wish my DC still worked. Maybe I'll tinker with it one last time to see if I can get some Sonic Adventure going. Hard to believe I bought that thing 10 years ago

I don't want to turn this thread into a SYSTEM WARZZZ!!!!, but most of the discussions I've had about the Dreamcast turned into being a "Ok, I agree that the Dreamcast had better graphics than the PS2, but the Dreamcast could not make games as complex as games on the PS2. For example, GTA".

I personally kind of agree that, during Dreamcast's first year, it couldn't make a GTA-like game (as much as people say Shenmue is, Shenmue was a very linear experience). But it had a STELLAR lineup of first generation games. Most first generation Playstation2 titles looked worse than the first generation of Dreamcast titles. We can only imagine what Second and Third generation games could accomplish in that hardware. :(

I can't believe people are still hanging on to this crap. The DC die NOT have better graphics capabilities than the PS2 >_<

still loved the system though :(

Oh dear Dreamcast how I miss thee. You were to be the stop gap between PS1 and the Emotion Engine. Forgive me. How was I to know the dancing scene in FFVIII could never be accomplished in real time on PS2 hardware. How was I to know the Tekken renders with crowd interaction would yet to be realized even now. Forgive me that i did not appreciate your online out of the box. I bought you on launch day and Soul Calibur is still the best launch game ever. Forgive those that hype Heavy Rain yet know not that Omnikron The Nomad Soul first gave us Cage and David Bowie to boot. We are not worthy of your second coming.

Man I loved that site. I had one of my joke letters responded to, even! :)

All of the fake-announcements on that site pain my heart.

Sonic The Hedgehog Reports for his First Day at Work

REDMOND, Wash., February 6, 2002 - History was made today as Sonic the Hedgehog reported for his very first day of work at Nintendo of America. Putting a decade of rivalry behind them, Mario and Sonic shook hands and began what will certainly be a very long partnership.

This is an exciting time for both Mario and Sonic, because they are each celebrating upcoming game launches. Mario's Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 launches February 11, and Sonic will make his first appearance on Nintendo's best selling platforms with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Nintendo GameCube and Sonic Advance for Game Boy Advance on February 11 and 12.

The Sonic games are the first in the U.S. to take advantage of the new Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable, allowing players to transfer data between the two systems. As Sonic strolled to the front door of Nintendo headquarters, it was clear that he was quite proud to be trusted with such a big responsibility.

Sonic was personally greeted by Mario when he arrived at Nintendo headquarters, but the famous hedgehog made it clear that he didn't expect any special treatment. He wanted to wear a badge just like the other employees, and he refused a corner office so that he could sit in the cubicles alongside his fellow workers.

While most new employees spend their first days hoarding office supplies and fruitlessly searching for hidden mushrooms, Sonic went straight to work. Mario took Sonic on a tour of Nintendo, and introduced him to key Nintendo executives. The hedgehog got along marvelously with NOA big-wigs, which is an important skill for upwardly mobile video game characters.

Sonic's next order of business was to visit Nintendo Power Magazine. The staff had just completed work on the cover for Volume 154, which prominently features Sonic. They just needed Sonic's approval to send the issue to press, and after careful deliberation Sonic finally gave the sought-after thumbs-up.

We asked Scott Pelland, Managing Editor of Nintendo Power, if he was nervous about getting Sonic's approval. "You bet I was. With Mario, we pretty much know what will fly and what will get shot down. As it turned out, Sonic was a real pleasure to work with. And I've never seen such fast turnaround for art approval. He's one classy hedgehog."

Dan Owsen, Nintendo's Online Manager, was equally pleased. "What impressed me about Sonic was his speed. He approved the website we're making for him in no time flat. I knew he could run fast, but you should see him work a keyboard. Amazing stuff."

The day wasn't completely filled with work, though. Sonic and Mario took a break to scarf down some grub at the world-famous Mario Café, and afterward the pair competed in the two-player mode of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

By the end of the day, it was clear that Mario and Sonic were meant to work together. More than 155 million Mario video games and more than 20 million Sonic games have been sold worldwide since the first Mario game launch in 1983. Now that they're working together as a team, there's no stopping them.

Welcome to Nintendo, Sonic!

That would be interesting... EAD Tokyo might be able to pull it off.

After the success of the DC2 launch, I'm sure Sega will be rolling in enough dough to buy the team outright.

Will this one have VMUs to screech at me when I power it up?

And will this one require me to open it up and reset the power supply or whatever those prongs are for every few years? :(

We could make one giant thread to commemorate the best Dreamcast games, your best Dreamcast memories, etc. but instead we get a 10 year old joke that's hopefully on its last legs.

So, it seems that GAF needed yet another Dreamcast 2 hope thread... nice (?)

PS: Now seriously speaking, nobody is expecting anything, right? RIGHT!?

It goes to show how cool a release date things like this are, people remember it for sure.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy but f**ked if I remember when the SNES came out. :lol Gotta pick the epic date so people remember even if they don't care about the system.

They want you to think 9/9/99 was the launch of the Dreamcast and so Dreamcast 2 comes out on 9/9/09, right? Well, where is it?

THEY GOT THE DATE WRONG! 9/9/99 is the US launch! It was actually 11/11 for the Japanese launch! (11th year of the new emperor!) So the TRUE launch date of the Dreamcast 2 must be 11/11/11!

Dreamcast 2. 11/11/11. BELIEVE.

Oh noez... :/
This will never die...

Amazingly, the local 24 Wal-Mart still had some in stock. I had to buy a bundle, of course....

I just found out Sega is offering all sorts of their older titles for download on this thing. Pixel perfect Altered Beast is only a few minutes and $8 away!

YES! I have to get it, along with the new House of the Dead!

Downloadable old SEGA games is so √ yo.
That's right. That symbol right there is a radical.

Sorry, everyone. I checked the prophecy again and it indicates 09/09/19.

Keep the dream alive!

They were sold out -- was that a launch title?

The strange thing is that I saw some posters for an upcoming Sonic game.... with Mario in it. There was also this weird looking game on the shelf featuring Mario floating around in space, next to a yellow star.

Did Nintendo go third party when I wasn't looking?

Didn't the psp turn into the dreamcast? (except more successful).

It's so fucking sad, another 10 years from now we will still be getting these same threads. I personally didn't think there would be such a huge following for the dreamcast. But oh well.

I'm still playing Dreamcast regularly. Good games never disappear. Gamers just forget them.
