Believe it or not, gamers who like the Atelier series are NOT pedophiles

DISGUSTING

LOLI ALERT

I don't think grown men are supposed to think preteen girls are so cute that they want to store images of them and partake in media that focuses on them.

If you saw a stranger by himself at the park taking pictures of your nine year old daughter because he thought she looked cute you probably wouldn't react like, "Oh thank goodness I thought there was just something wrong with you!"

I'm not saying that like this kind of art is pedophilia, but the argument that it's not normal to be intensely interested in it and that perhaps it is a damaging thing that may lead one towards thoughts of pedophilia is not ridiculous IMO. Especially not given some of the images from this game. Is an eleven year old girl's underwear 'just cute' too?

Let's put it this way:

What if I had an avatar of some random 12yr old girl.. who isn't my daughter.

Would you find that strange.. or disturbing? Because it would be.

Let's say you saw Spirited Away, really liked it, and had an avatar of Chihiro? Would that be pedo?

I mean, who wants to be a blank CD-R? Or a block of tofu?
You'd be surprised!

All those avatars have something in common besides anime.
Yeah, they're all meant to appeal to pedophiles. You're quite the detective! Or were you implying something else?

Oh crumbs, these avatar assumptions don't work well for me at all, well at least it's not a hatchling Owl up there right?
That is a very sexy owl.

It's sad i don't remember people call each other pedos during the ps2 generation, in fact most of the people i knew back then had diverse taste in games. Now if a character is a female or not up to western standards in looks( forcing "sexiness" on the majority of females)there's some kind of backlash.I've never played the Atelier series but i just wanted to give my input on the matter about this "pedo" shit people fling around this gen.

Good move, good move.
If only my avatar wasn't so perfect beforehand!

But, it kind of proves my point because there is no way that I would want someone to see me posting at work/school with this avatar. It's genuinely creepy.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad

It depends if she's a meme, if she's anime, and what your intentions with her are.
It's like a dad asking you : ''what are your intentions with my daughter?''

You're only naughty if you chose to be. If your intentions are morally abhorrent, then you are morally abhorrent.

In the eyes of society, I can only share moe things with other Otakus.

Why not ? Is there an age requirement for liking cute things ?

I am 31 so i guess i am just allowed to like games where i kill stuff dudebro style ? Or is that just for kids ? What should i like ?

You probably shouldn't like soft porn for teenage asian boys.

You know I never really thought about the fact that I have an anime avatar. I always just think of it as 'that guy from Snatcher, the kickass Sega CD game".

I wonder if people judge me as well based on it?

Pretty sure there's a massive difference between taking pictures of someone else's daughter in the park, and enjoying a game involving cartoon girls. Maybe you're right - for some unstable people, this kind of thing could be a gateway to something darker. Just like how violent games could be a gateway for unstable people to take to real-life violence. But like the OP said, lumping everyone who likes a certain style or genre onto an "offenders" list is drastic, and in most cases, offensive.

If you don't buy into the argument or these games, then fair enough. The guy was just defending himself when people are insulting and offending him by calling out his tastes. Seems perfectly legit to me. Posting a bunch of 'cute anime' avatars isn't going to prove anyone's a paedophile, either. Just go back to being a perfect human and let these guys enjoy playing the games they like.

Cute stuff is fine in controlled doses. Moe anime just lays it on too heavy and it just comes off as obnoxious and sickening.

Doubt it it, looks badass enough to be accepted by dudebros.

my cake, fuck off
This dude killed his family.

Also I haven't tried any of these because I have no reason to believe they shrug off the faults only a few JRPG battle systems can.

I know. I was looking for that black guy singing to his anime wife on her birthday, but found this instead.

As long as it's not someone's daughter and I'm not harming anyone, what's wrong with being a 20 year old male and thinking that it's cute when little girls show their underwear?

You took my shtick so I'll conform to this new one.

I'm judging you right now, lets see we've got anime styled art from a game called "snatcher".
Oh i've put it all together now, behold the fruit that has sprouted from my seeds of research, you snatch children!

Very great writeup Zel, but I'm not sure why you bother. The people you're addressing aren't going to change their minds as they judge based on looks and not actual content. Yeah, it's annoying, but that's just how the internet is.
I actually find the trolls who are well aware of how unreasonable they are being much more annoying than the genuinely clueless.

They don't, but they mitigate them by not centering the gameplay around battle at all. A bit like Planescape: Torment in that way.

Liking moe doesn't make you a pedophile, but if you're a grown ass man and think that stuff is cute, then I don't agree with that.

Tell that to anybody who has a hobby and you're just being a hypocrite. You know, there are plenty of people who think "grown ass men" shouldn't be even be playing video games. I enjoy a good moe anime once in a while. Hell, my wife does too sometimes. We just watched the K-on movie together. I finished a hard day of manual labor, sat down, kicked my feet up, and I cracked a couple of beers. It was awesome. Fuck you.

Is like saying every single video game is a Macho Power Fantasy because Gears of Wars features muscular men killing fictional Reptile Men with fictional chainsawgun

It's about what the general audience perceives as something acceptable in a video game. I personally do not give a damn about it but try to show this to your mom and then explain to her the game isn't about "that".

I'm not saying peoples playing this game are pedos. I'm just saying don't feel sorry if someone thinks you are.

I'll admit that I stayed away from this series because of some certain aspects but I did like the art style. I finally gave in since I wanted a good rpg to play and it was actually a pretty good game and I don't regret playing it.

...wait, are we still talking about the game or are we now discussing about "cute things"?...
