Twitter cut how many employees? I think it went from 8,000 to 1,500. Still runs fine and produces updates. There's so much dead weight in these big companies. How much of the 800 Bungie employees are actually Engineers/Developers? And how much of those Engineers/Developers actually produce? Cut all the fat. Hire competent people when needed.

Tech is the kind of industry with endless money. When you got eager beavers willing to invest $100M into mindseye you know there's crazy money out there. Also the kinds of jobs where someone came always push for more time because nobody really knows how long it takes to do the job.

If youre a guy working an assembly line, analyzing spreadsheets or renovating someone's entire house you have a ballpark cost and time to do the job.

With gaming the extra amount of time and money can be through the roof compared to the early estimates. And people fucking around coasting like that Twitter video of a girl wandering around wasting time and nobody cared.

Another thing too. I don't know prevalent it is, but there's articles that tech companies often try to compete against each other by hiring more people. So the more people a company has its supposed to make the image better as they need more people because it's more important products. So CEO's will greenlight hiring binges to show off to other tech bros.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's true. A bravado kind of thing. Probably the only industry where companies want to grow on purpose for laughs as a badge if honour while other industries try to save money and go lean.

I don't think the pronoun degeneracy was ever commercially motivated, especially in the games industry (they surely cannot be that clueless). I suspect in this case they (Bungie) have been told to cut it out rather than deciding that for themselves, and with the axe already looming they aren't exactly in a strong position to fight it.

It is fair to assume if they accept this that they care more about keeping their jobs than they do about fighting the good fight however. Fair weather revolutionaries if you will.
