Actress and pop singer Cailee Spaeny has landed the female lead in Legendary’s “Pacific Rim: Maelstrom,” the sequel to the 2013 sci-fi hit.

John Boyega will play the male lead in “Maelstrom” and Scott Eastwood also stars. Steven S. DeKnight is directing.

Normally in these threads I ask something like "but can they act?"

But I can't this time. My only question now is "how believable can she make the nonsensical script?" Still though, if the answer was "not believable at all" I still wouldn't care. I'm going to watch this movie.

Fixed. Charlie Day was beyond awful in the first.

..but in his defense - basically everyone was awful. Except Ron Perlman being the only realising how pulpy the script was, the only one hamming it up like a champ.
