Call of Duty:Black Ops Declassified (Gamescom 2012)

Mercs looks no where near KZ3 quality, this looks no where near CoD:BlkOps quality, I'd say the disparity looks about the same. Seriously, people should actually check out BlkOps on PS3, it is one of the ugliest games I've ever seen.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, then. I think KZ Mercs looks very impressive but this CoD looks like it's just a slight step up from a Wii or mobile port.

What's that based on?

Well at least mostly done. The game was delayed out of April to May and the game usually has a few week period of going old and getting pressed. It was definitely done at least 3 weeks before the game came out like with every release.

They have 60 employees. Not really that small of a company.

I guess we need to check the credits of how many people made Resistance.

Mercs does look very impressive, but nothing compared to KZ3. And this game looks horrible, but I'd say roughly as far away from BlkOps as this is from KZ3.

We can agree to disagree certainly, but that's not what I said.

What a kick in the dick. How is this not a down-port of Blops 1? How is this not made by a developer with a good track record? Christ almighty how could they fuck this up this bad?

Its chump change for Activision, really. Plus, they are getting a Vita bundle as well. Win-win for Activision, lose-lose for fans and suckers.

Yeah, Activision is just phoning this in to make Sony happy and get some free money from people who are going to buy it on name alone.

Damn, everyone ragging on Nihilistic. IMO they've got a pretty solid FPS engine on Vita to start with. They just need to work on level design, pacing, removing the shitty touch controls, enemy AI, story ... basically everything else >_>

These surely will all be things they'll fix with less than a year of dev time and a tight schedule!

I guess we just disagree about how ugly Black Ops on PS3 is, then. I thought it was about average looking for the platform, especially so when you consider the typically very smooth frame rate. And I highly doubt Declassified will be running at anywhere near 60 fps either, so it's not like it looks less than great for the same reasons as a console CoD.

The fact of the matter is they could have done so much better and there is honestly no excuse for how terrible this game looks.

Just curious, have there been any patches/updates for Resistance: BS for balancing, bugs and/or glitches? Because the idea that a CoD game wouldn't be patched is the biggest dealbreaker in the world.

Hell IIRC Resistance: BS's online didn't work at all at launch.

I was going to rant when I started reading your post but... you summed it up by the end lol.

Resistance is the biggest disappointment for me on Vita. The gun sounds, weight, movement, hitbox and everything about the gunplay is stupid and random. I hate it.

I guess we need to check the credits of how many people made Resistance.
That could be done too yeah. But it says that they are over 60 developers on their website at least:

" From this original group of 12 people, the team has carefully grown to over 60 developers today."

Funnily enough cod for vita was announced back in January 2011,holy shit sony...just bravo!
It is a 3rd party game though, and it is a huge brand, so i'm not sure how much power Sony had over it. I doubt that this was first started on after Resistance Burning Skies though, but maybe it started around 2012, just a guess.

someone update the thread title, with developed by Nilhistic the creators of Resistance Burning Skies, 4vs4 multipalyer.

all this just proved to me 3rd parties don't care about Vita, hell western 3rd parties don't care about handhelds in general, hopefully Japanese support from 3rd parties will be better at TGS.

So, this is my best guess as to what happened:

1. In late 2010 or January 2011, Activision signs a deal with Sony promising an exclusive CoD title on NGP in time for the 2012 holiday season, in return for Sony heavily co-marketing the game.
2. At some point in 2011, Activision loses confidence in the Vita platform and decides that the project isn't worth allocating any internal resources away from the console entries.
3. In order to fulfill its end of the bargain, Activision asks Sony to decide/oversee the course of CoD Vita's development. Sony, impressed by the high quality of Burning Skies, assigns Nihilistic to the project.

So that's where we are now.

well, Treyarch didn't even know who was making this game two months ago
http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/25/tre...e-dark-over-black-ops-declassified-developer/

I don't think Treyarch houses the CoD producers who manage the franchise bible, more the development talent who design the game. So, that's not unheard of that the developer doesn't know what the producer knows.

The fact, though, that there was no collaboration between the projects makes this even more sketchy (whereas something like AC3 Liberation shares the same engine, is getting mixed in appropriately with the same PR effort by the producers, even has some PS3 connectivity, even if it inevitably ends up being the lesser game it's tied together the right away and the teamwork means that the "B-team" can do much more with less resources because of the support system.)

Nope, certainly not 'average' to me.

They patched the initial issues and have another patch in cert right now to improve network code and game balance.

Right, it's definitely below average.

Not really. All the previous portable Call of Dutys, on DS and PSP have been pretty much crap too.

ds ones... were ok. outside of MP Hunters, they were like the best portable online shooters (kinda by default) until ios came to town.

I am pretty curious though, would a shitty CoD on vita help it or hurt it more.

Good point. And you know which releases of CoD sell like shit? The shitty DS and PSP ones.

What I'm trying to say is I don't think a bad Call of Duty is going to magically do well on the Vita just because it's CoD.

Resistance was probably done in April. 4 months seems about right. Pretty sure Treyarch made Call of Duty 3 for like every system in 8 months. They seem to be using the resistance engine for this so it was just matter of throwing a CoD skin on it

Actually, Resistance could've been finished earlier and held to reduce the post-launch drought.

Eh, it looks a lot better in motion. Regardless, if the series is that underwhelming on consoles then there is even less of an excuse for it looking this bad on the Vita since tech obviously isn't the issue, right?

Just think about it: if it wasn't for that 5 second logo reveal this project could have been nipped in the bud, quietly, saving everyone money and brand reputation.

Graphics look quite poor (particularly the ground/floor textures) but I'll take a punt on it when the price inevitably drops. $50 for a handheld game is just absolutely bonkers.

This game costs 1/7 the price of COD:BLOPS:D yet has 12-player multiplayer.

I'd also argue that on 4S and iPad 2 (with shader effects on) it looks better.

If it gets released on PSM, I'll grab it for Vita. :P

I think the problem is double dipping on this Nihilistic engine. The Vita is capable of doing what the 4S and iPad 2 are doing.

I just watched the trailer. I'm really ... "bewildered" is the best word to put it that 4 vs. 4 multiplayer is being touted as a benefit here. Every map is going to be Shipment.

This is supposed to be the killer app for the Vita. But right now it's just looking like afterthough garbage.

What I'm trying to say is I don't think a bad Call of Duty is going to magically do well on the Vita just because it's CoD.

I absolutely agree. I don't think even a good call of duty would sell a ton. I guess if clueless parents buy their kids a vita for christmas, they might pick up the call of duty game over others, just because they've heard of the name...

Just watched the Youtube trailer now and it definitelly looks faster/better framerate than when i watched it on the press conferance stream. Still looking forward to the game to some degree, hope that it will be fun to play.
