Call of Duty:Black Ops Declassified (Gamescom 2012)

I could deal with the visuals falling a bit short of my expectations, but 4v4 multiplayer is just killing me. I may be spoiled, but man that is disappointing I don't care who you are.

Personal Opinion --> May pick up once on a sale, but not full price, so far this month I have been playing my 3ds over my Vita, very well may continue until ACL and Sly4.

Is there any technical reason it's only 4v4? I've never understood this. Battlefield 1942 had 64 players back in 2002, are we never going to get that many players on a handheld or console? Not even that, is 32 players still difficult on something that's supposed to be closer to a portable PS3 than anything? Is this just the developer being terrible or what?

I agree on the 4vs4. When i first saw it being mentioned, i thought they ment local multiplayer, but then it was online :\ This could be a dealbreaker for me. I will still get the game, but if 4vs4 feels empty (as it takes a longer time to find the enemies), i might not continue playing the game for a longer period of time. There is always the hope of 8 player deathmatch though, Resistance Burning Skies had that at least.

I was so disapointed by this trailer, Killzone looks so much more awesome/polished/actually has graphics that dont look like crap/kinda cool merc story

Ok, I know the game looks crappy, the textures are shit, etc. but the biggest issue here is the player limit...4 vs 4. Are you kidding me? That's downright insulting and I doubt there are hardware limitations for this. It should have been at least 8 vs. 8.

I thought that this was the perfect chance for the Vita to gain at least some momentum in the west but with such a rushed and poor product there's no way in hell they will do it.

I'd like to know this too. I do believe that it comes down to the developer. Battlefield 2 on PS2 even had 24 players online if i'm not mistaken, and the Vita should at least be more powerful than the PS2.

Holy hyperbole in this thread. It looks like a psp game? Really?

That is a psp game.

THAT is a good looking psp game.
As long as this plays as well as Resistance, I will be picking it up. People shit all over Burning Skies, but it was decent, and I would still be playing the mp if it had a decent suite of modes. My 13 year old still loves it though, and he'll probably be playing the everloving christ out of this as well. It doesn't look omg amazing, but if it's fun, I'm in.

The graphics in the trailer do not look bad at all. What the hell do you guys think the Vita is capable of?

Uh, it's capable of a hell of a lot more than this. And Vita better more routinely deliver a hell of a lot more than this because iOS and Android are nipping at its horsepower-driven heels every day.

What other third party games has Nihilistic done? Have they worked with Activision before?

Playstation Move Heroes and Resistance on Vita are the only games Nihilistic have made for Sony. Prior to that they worked for entirely 3rd parties, making games for EA, THQ, Konami and getting fired from a game for Blizzard (Starcraft Ghost).

I'd imagine the closest this is to a "money hat" was Sony letting Nihilistic/Activision use the Resistance engine for free.

There was quite a few people thinking CoD would be Vita's savior and thought the only reason it was shown in logo form at E3 was because Microsoft paid off Activision not to mention it or whatever. Here's one example just a few days ago: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=40881204&postcount=22

I think only the most optimistic people will still be looking forward to this game after this footage and learning that Nihilistic is developing it.

That is probably because people thought that Activision wouldn't drop the ball on a revered franchise. I was looking forward to it. The footage and the dev's history has now made me rethink my stance.

I'm sure it was Sony's decision to use Nihilistic (Sony is probably funding this whole thing with little involvement from Activision).

Sony likely wanted to get a cheap 2-for-1 deal by paying for Resistance Burning Skies and then quickly reskinning that engine with CoD Black Ops assets in a couple months.

fixed, mate

it looks really awful. 4vs4? Jesus sony

No. No company just hands over the rights to their biggest IP to another publisher to go crazy with it. Very Far fetched to believe that Sony and Act have that kind of relationship.

Someone in this thread already posted from another Vita thread where a poster suggested that the lack of info on the title was because MS was having Activision hold back the info... that seems pretty overboard. I'm sure going through older threads on the topic there will be a lot more examples of people saying that the game was a system saver many times over.

It is not that far fetched given the history of MS and ACT regarding the franchise. It isn't because MS wanted to kill the buzz about the Vita version (they probably don't care) it is most likely due to some arrangement about being the first to be shown for each entry. Considering declassified is a spin off it probably got caught up because of the title.

RE was definitely solid mechanically as far as im concerned.
My biggest complaint is that no ad hoc multiplayer. This is MUST for vita.
Like i can play with people across the world but not the person right next to me?

Nice to see Sony devoting every resource possible to ensure their hyped fps for their flagship handheld is as good as it can possibly be.

*cries* at least people will shut up about this game now.

I agree, we have two vitas in the house, and every game should let me play with someone sitting next to me on the couch. The one thing that will kill Declassified for me is if there is no Zombies mode. The fact that they didn't even mention it afaik worries me.

They should have done what they always did with the Wii version.

Have a B team por the main game, crop the stuff that is limited by the system and design something that takes advantage of the Wiimote controls, in Vita's case touchscreen/touchpad ..

Absolutely, ad hoc zombies and ill by this crap even if everything else sucks.

If you want a more damning example, Medal of Honor: Heroes on the PSP had 32-person multiplayer back in 2006.

It looks just as bland and brown as all the other call of duty titles. I don't see what the problem is.
MW2, MW3 and Black Ops does not come off as bland and brown in my opinion. Naturally they have some "brown" maps too, but that is because there are in such an enviorment (and dirt is usually brown).

History showed that they have dropped the ball on all portable versions of COD though and this was brought up multiple times in previous threads.

It is all tin foil hat stuff at this part guessing and assuming what is in who's contracts that we will never... ever know. Obviously, by seeing it today we know exactly why it wasn't shown eariler.

It is nice when information is finally out.

Ehm, it's not Sony's game?

They did achieve that by cutting of a lot of the animations (which were sub-par to begin with) still a fun game though. Anyway I don't think it's due to technical limitations, it could just not be realized within the dev time/budget which was probably heavily constrained.

im absolutely disgusted with this. Nhilistic is seriously the worst dev. Im suprised they gave it to them after the POS that was burning skies. I am most certainly not being this. I was excited for this damn game too, SOOOOOOONNNNNYYY!!!!

Not at $50.

Seriously. At that price, the decision this fall is: "Do I buy this shitty looking Vita game, or do I buy the console game my friends will actually be playing?" And that's assuming the person even has a Vita right now.

Then, after they buy the console game, they might ask "do I buy this shitty looking Vita game?" And the answer is obviously "no," because they already have the real deal.

i dont mind the graphics so much, what gets me is that vita is powerful enough to almost run normal console COD. there is no excuse why it has to have 4v4, its like they purposely make it this way so that next year they can say it has 8v8 or 10v10.

now if i remember the old call of duty 2 i think had 8v8?

Really?

Hype completely killed. I could get by the bad visuals but Nhilistic... really?
Just frustrating that they think stuff like 4v4 and Resistance-level is good enough. Seems so phoned in - they had a chance to blow people away. "Good enough" isn't enough. They don't get it, and whacking a 50 buck price tag on it is insulting. I'm sure the devs would feel frustrated having to rush the game out the door like people have suggested.

Well someone asked why people thought the VIta could do a lot more. I should've quoted that post for context. Beyond that, the treatment of the game is appalling. I really don't care about graphics so don't get confused. It's very clear that this is getting the DS/Wii iteration treatment like I had speculated in the speculation thread. I'm surprised Sony still wants to draw attention to it.
The DS CODs were actually pretty decent for what they were. Really robust for DS first person shooters.

Does anyone think Nihilistic knows about all the negative comments?
Probably, and they probably don't give a shit. Jaded, cynical internet people will shit on anything. Just look in any Uncharted 3 thread and see how many people say it's terrible. Even if this game debuted looking as good as Golden Abyss, people would still shit on it for 4v4, or touch controls, or something.

That's because a lot of aspects of Uncharted 3 were genuinely awful.

Nihilistic's "work," however, is utterly indefensible.

I've played through that game 3 times, I didn't find one bit of it even remotely close to awful. Also, Burning Skies was decent, but I played through it twice, not sure about you.

Come on... This was gonna be THE big Vita game and people find out it's created by the studio that made the horrible Resistance Burning Skies, and looks completely average and unambitious. Might turn out well but the signs aren't good :P

I guess Nihilistic folks are reading this thread.
