Call of Duty: WWII - Beta Impressions

I thought health regen was going to be completely out, and we were going to have health packs? Or was there never the case?

Currently health restoration takes a significant chunk longer than any previous CoD title which is good. I was hoping we'd get more customization as well in this beta.

Oh, and is it a bug that Expedition class doesn't actually get to pick 1 tactical and lethal? When you hit level 2 it says you can pick both, but I can only pick one or the other.

As of right now I'm undecided, but I can say it's heaps better than IW. I hated IW beta and full game, but this I enjoy running around with the shotgun and lighting folks on fire.

The health stuff was campaign only.

They removed jetpacks and boost jumping, and you didn't expect it to get slower?...idk man...
No, I mean from COD2-4 days. Context was lost. My original question was "has the TTK always been this bad" which seems to be yes, so thanks for the snarky response.

Just hoping Bumper Jumper is available when it's released. Jump shots are way more effective now, & pressing X while aiming sucks. Also wish strafing was actually relevant, instead of moving like a tank while in ADS like one did in CoD4. Can't say I'm a fan of the slow ass sprint-out times as well.

Definitely enjoying it so far though, albeit the aiming in general feels 'off' compared to past CoD's

Strafing feels really good on ARs once you level up Infantry all the way to get Stock. Plus it makes LMGs usable, though the movement penalty when shooting is more noticeable on LMGs.

First handful of games I was enjoying it while getting used to the game...then all the typical COD issues appeared right on time: bad lag, poor spawns / spawn trapping, hitmarkers for days, and overall a dislike for the maps.

War showcased more than anything how much the limited spawns for Rush in Battlefield matter. It felt like all we had to do as attackers was continuously throw bodies at the objective and we would win, there was no penalty except for the time it took to get back to the objective.

umm...not being snarky...

the post you responded to clearly said "the last few years." Now you can fiddle with what exactly the word "few" means, but we're coming up on 10 years since CoD4 hit shelves...

the last few years would include Infinite Warfare, Black Ops 3, Advanced Warfare, and maybe Ghosts...

These graphics... not impressive.

The whole package feels old. Almost like a remaster of an old game. It's not fresh at all and really lacks.

The gameplay and graphics leave a lot to be desired.

The locations feel so static.

Hmm I played WW2 on Pro at 90" and it impressed me a lot in it's super smooth visuals!

I unlocked all of the attachments of the Garand and it makes it better.

I use a either the Reflex or 4X, and Rapid Fire and Advanced Rifling.

The main problem is that it's recentering still takes too long.

Needs a buff.

You can change button assignments on PS4, make X -> L1

I did this, only bad thing is in menus you have to use L1 instead of X. But it's Bumper Jumper lol.

I'm so used to stock being an attachment, thanks. Forgot it was locked behind a division. Hopefully it's a noticeable improvement.

Ah, brilliant. I've never used had to use that feature before, thanks!

Nah, pizza on pineapples should

Shooting and movement in this game do not feel nearly as good as they did in the IW and Treyarch games. Even tried BO2 again for the first time in months and it was night and day.

The super inconsistent connections are still ridiculous. It's not even about pinging poorly compared to another player, but it's feeling like you are at a lag disadvantage to the entire lobby at times. React quickly, even anticipate guys you know are coming, you get a quick first shot but still somehow almost die as you're hit with bullets faster than possible based on what you see. You're on your game but are losing these gun fights to guys who are 4-11.

On the flip side there are games where I'm on the other end of the spectrum and it seems like the entire other team have poor aim/reaction time. I'll just walk through bullets and feel like everybody is hip spraying.

I was in the same lobby with mostly the same players, and one game went 32-5, then the next 14-11. It is asinine. Everyone went from scrubs who have never played CoD to masters of the game.

I
I completely understand that Sledgehammer saw the reaction Battlefield 1 got last year and have had a single year to suddenly put together this WW2 game

Man, this is a terrible post. It will be really hard for anyone in this thread to top it.

Anyone who is saying they actually enjoy this beta is either a blind CoD fanboy who plays every day, or is on Activision's payroll. This beta is a shambles and a bad joke. :D

Never mind.

In terms of feeling this feels more like pre ghost post black ops 1 in ebb and flow. That CoD4 feeling ain't coming back in terms of map control, weapon balance between classes and overall hit detection. A WW2 roll of paint doesn't automatically mean it will be just like those older days. People should probably get over it ever coming back because all 3 teams currently don't "get it" as of right now.

I think War is something that I wanted to see the series do for awhile but the map and execution was off. That build a bridge shit is terrible on multiple levels. But I like what they are trying to do here tho. Also the map size could be a tad bigger. Mainly the trench map since I think the forest one is great and the other one Gibraltar could do a more expanded center point.

Last night, Dr. DisRespect started streaming this. He played for like twenty minutes, and he disliked it so much he was all "fuck this fucking shit game, fucking Kindergarten gameplay piece of shit game, I'm done!" and went back to PUBG :D

wait the same one from machinima like a decade ago?

he's still doing that gimmick after all these years? lmao that is such an old name in terms of content creators

The Doc was previously a map designer for Sledgehammer, which makes this strangely relevant.

Speaking of maps, I can't figure out Pointe du Hoc. The flow makes no sense, and I don't understand spawns. The feeling of getting shot in the back is as bad as BO3 Nuketown. I think Ardennes is good, and Gibraltar is okay, but god, this is bad. It's a strong contender for least favorite map I've played across BO3/IW/WW2.

Besides all his "fuck this shit", he did articulate his main criticisms with the game, he said something like "all the matches play out the same. I spawn, take the exact same route, get shot in the back. The enemies ghost spawn on you, and not in proper spawn pockets. TTK is ridiculous." Can't say I disagree, from what I've seen.

He's right you know.

It's also really interesting considering his previous position at SHG.

Yeahhhhh I like Pointe du Hoc visually...but it's too, round? There it's impossible to get any grip on where your enemies or teammates are going to be spawning...maybe that's by design...but I think it sucks

Did anyone else get their code from being a Comcast Xfinity customer? Said my code was being emailed but it's 4 been hours and nothing yet.

Just played about an hour or so. Been having fun, I still got the skill to mostly always be number 1 on my team. (Although I only skipped IW, bought BLOPS3 on PC like a dummy)

I like the game initially, but now having second thoughts. Maps reminds me of Ghost with how much openings, which is not a good thing.

It's funny you say that because I feel the opposite, the maps feel pretty tight to me, almost too tight, especially the map with the trenches, aka shotgun land. lol..

I don't think the maps used to be this closed off? I feel like there is barely any open spaces compared to COD4-BLOPS2 (Can't really remember Ghosts tbh)

Will Activision email me my code after redeeming the Amazon one?

I redeemed the amazon code and it said success, but it was just a blank space where it should've been a code. I redeemed it for Xbox.

I've put a few hours into the beta (hit the level 20 cap) and it's ok but I probably won't be keeping my pre-order. It's better than the recent ones but it's not a return to WaW or earlier form imho. Too much SMG spam with very little reason to do anything other than run around spraying. I've had my fill of jumping around corners prefire spamming SMGs I think.

So I tried the beta again last night and this morning for a total of 90 mins or so on top of what I played yesterday morning.

I played Hardpoint and had a bit more fun with it compared to TDM but I think i've made my mind up now that I won't be getting the game.

It just doesn't feel fun to me. God knows what the developers have done for the past few years but it feels to samey to the other CoD games. I hope they take some time away from the series to completely reinvent it but I highly doubt thats going to happen.

Oh you spawn and get shot in the back? That's like every COD game.

Can they really not look at COD4/MW2 to get an idea on how to design a Call of Duty map? Wtf is this 3 lane linear narrow lane garbage?

Advanced movement wasn't the issue imo it's the dog crap map design that only has 2 spawn areas for some reason keeps on returning vs a COD4 map like Pipeline that had multiple team spawns where the fight would play out. The 2 spawn area linear design is just so one dimensional
Truth right here. Loved real COD when battles would take place at intense choke points. I miss MW2 any time COD is mentioned

Welp, if the Beta is anything to go by...so much for this being the CoD to finally break my pattern of only playing this series for the SP campaigns since, oh, CoD4 (or maybe MW2). Looks like I'll be waiting until I can grab it for $20 or less as usual. I dont know what I expected.

Oh you spawn and get shot in the back? That's like every COD game.

It's always been true to an extent, but it was a fairly rare issue in Call of Duty 4 whereas it accounts for a massive proportion of deaths in the more recent ones. In Call of Duty 4 many maps had two fairly clear 'ends' which mean you generally knew which way to look. This makes all the difference for me. I don't mind not knowing where the enemy is, but when I start to feel they're as likely to be in front as me as behind me it's no longer enjoyable. Even the maps in this game that have obvious ends (e.g. Gibraltar) have so many paths between the two ends that it's relatively common to go from one end to the other without having to fight anyone. It's too easy to flank in this game, and that plays havoc with the spawning because one flanker will often have someone spawn near them at which point the enemy can often become surrounded.

I'm a strong believer that the maps in the recent Call of Duty games are overly complicated and that they should try to return to the oblong, three lane maximum, end to end maps that were more common in the early games. Circular map design makes for ridiculously unpredictable spawning and incredibly chaotic, frustrating games. Most of the time you should be able to be pretty confident about where your next threat is coming from if you know the maps well and watch the radar well. That is simply not possible with these maps.

Welcome to every COD game from Blops 2 onwards (actually Ghosts seemed better but the game sucked so I didn't play enough to notice). Don't mention it to COD fans though because you'll be told that your internet sucks and that this isn't a problem that exists even though there's tons of videos on YouTube pointing it out.

It has ruined every single game for me to the point where there's almost no point even trying them anymore because even if I like the game I know I'll stop playing because of the connections a week down the line.

Beta is Meh...The only mode I Care about and wanted to try out was search and destoryand they didn't even include it in the beta,sigh.....

Anyways,a Ps4 code if anyone wants it

Your PS4 token: FGAH-8BNC-HED2

Guys, where can I find this beta on the Hong Kong store? What do I need to search for?

I tried searching for "Call of Duty" but it only found pre-orders for the game.

Search WWII (as in capital letter of ii). Click on the game to pre order and there is a button for 'try demo'.

I hate this. There is seemingly no way ever now to just consistently play well you always either feel like you were wrecked by the netcode or on the positive end of it doing the wrecking.
