Can someone explain/summarize the Kingdom Hearts story?

No, Roxas is his body.

And yes I meant Data Sora.

Oh yeah. Okay, then it counts.

Not only is Aqua possibly the most likable character in the series, she's also the only main character (Mickey aside) who has only held one identity ever.

Well, not entirely.

Kairi being able to use the keyblade is thanks to her touching Aqua's. Doesn't that kind of mean a bit of her soul went into Kairi or something?

Kingdom Hearts 1 had a relatively cute, simple story with a few "deeper" things going on the in background via the Ansem Reports.

After that they've just gotten stupider and stupider and each subsequent game seems to want to just shit on everything the first game established.

Giving Kairi a Keyblade in the sequel is probably the low-point of the whole series.

Also, everything involving Organization XIII should be laughed at and mocked.

So yeah, despite that, the games are still fun as hell if you like Action RPGs and/or Disney.

Roxas is his nobody yes but why count heartless sora since its the same body.

No, you see the "self" splits in 2 when someone becomes a heartless (possibly 3 since the "mind" was mentioned somewhere). The heartless is the heart while the nobody is the body.

lulz, better forget about Dissidia Duodenum if you're going to avoid fun games because of bad stories.

Wait a minute. I haven't played BbS because I can't (sad face), but when does Kairi touch Aqua's keyblade? The end of KHII when Riku gives a keyblade to her? How did Riku get it?

No,
it happens in BBS. Remember, Kairi is originally from Radiant Garden/Hollow Basition. Aqua is protecting her from a bunch of unversed and Kairi touches it then when she's still a kid.

Did the characters in Dewey-Decimal get girlier since the first game?

I literally can't look at Warrior of Light without cringing.

KH's story is dumb. And convoluted. And insane.

I still like it though. Maybe it's the comic book reader in me who's used to bullshit stories.

Yeah kids. Skip those comic books.

It kinda reminds me of Naruto in certain aspects.

Sora

Is Naruto

Has a crush on his friend Riku

Just like Naruto has a crush on his friend Sasuke.

Along in the story these guys that call themselves Organization XIII are after Sora

Look a lot like these guys

Same here. I still legitimately want to know what happens to the characters and legitimately felt bad for some of the more tragic ones. I like watching them grow even if some of their decisions are stupid as hell.

Basically, it's complete shit.

I've been playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time since around september 11th, and I really cannot make any sense of the story so far. I'm in Wonderland doing some confusing and mundane evidence collecting task. I have no idea what the hell is going on.

When Sora meets back up with Kairi, he's basically like "oh hi, what have you been up to" When he meets back up with Riku, he BREAKS DOWN CRYING because he missed him so much. Go find the scene on youtube if you don't believe me.

There are literally no plot details to confuse you at that point in KH1.

Unless it's Wonderland that's confusing you.

Someone tried to steal the Queen of Hearts'...heart. Alice is accused. You are trying to find evidence to clear her name. If that is convoluted for you then the rest of the game is going to blow your mind.

P.S. the heartless did it.

That's not true. What's Kingdom Hearts? What's the Door of Darkness? Why did Kairi leave Hollow Bastion to live in Destiny Isles? What IS Destiny Isles? Many mysteries, no answers. They didn't focus on them much, but they were definitely there.

Yes, but that's like 1/10 through the game. It's like saying Inception is shit when you just finished watching the prologue in the train and have no clue about what happened.

Huh? Most of the stuff pop up at the of the game. The ending of KH1 is left completely open and obviously meant to lead to a continuing series.

Isn't Kingdom Hearts not even mentioned until Hollow Bastion or something? I definitely don't remember hearing the phrase until very late in the game.

Exactly. My main questions are: what/where is the island, and how did they get there - when Sora wakes up in the bedroom (?) after the Heartless arrive on the island, does that mean that the island is in his dreams?

I have literally no clue what the objective in this game is apart from rescuing Mickey (who I don't really give a shit about anyway).

Plus they ruined Squall aka Leon (huh, Leon, wtf?).

Someone should seriously pose this question to Nomura and see if even he can make heads or tails of it.

Which question? He's been asked about the KH story many times before. He obviously knows what the story is about and where it's going. Whether it's any good or not is an entirely different question... :lol

Just ask him if he can summarize the series' story in 500 words or less. When he looks at you as though you asked him to explain tax laws, tell him now's as good a time as any to let someone else plot it out.

When he continues to stare at you blankly, suggest a reboot and call it a day.

Destiny Islands world is setup in a weird way but it's possible to deduce it's a close smaller island where the kids go to play. When Sora wakes up in his room he can see it from his window and in the next scene he jumps from one of the boats to the dock. It's damn lazy of them to not put the main island with the houses visible from there though, it's like you're in the middle of nowhere with only water around.

That's unfair to ask to anyone who did a single RPG, much less 6.

Sora and Riku were born on Destiny Islands. Destiny Islands, for what we know, contains a smaller island (the one at the very beginning of KH1), and a larger "main" island (Kairi is seen here early in KH2).

It's a very small world that is seen as a metaphorical 'prison' or sorts. Xehanort was born here and he left the island because of his strong will to do so. Riku is very similar in this regard and it's possible his will to leave called the Heartless to the island in the first place in KH1.

Kairi was born in Radiant Garden. When Radiant Garden was taken over by Heartless (and became Hollow Bastion), many of the residents ended up in Traverse Town. Why? Well, just because, it's a hand waved argument. Traverse Town is just a hub world were those who lost their own worlds live.

Kairi went to Destiny Islands instead of Traverse Town presumably because of the spell Aqua's puts on Kairi in BBS.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

^ but it's too early for him to know these infos, I NEED SCISSORS is still at Wonderland. :lol

Anyway, about Kairi:

Xehanort threw her into the darkness and either by her own powers or Aqua's thingie she ended in Destiny Islands. It's mentioned in Report 11 of the first game:

I have chosen a special girl. I do not know if she possesses the power of the Princesses, but there is a chance, and this is an experiment. She may lead me to the place where the one holding the key is...
I shall send her off to the ocean of other worlds.

The difference is hardly any other JRPG -- series or otherwise -- has a story as needlessly complicated as Kingdom Hearts. Hell, we're 3 pages into this thread and people don't even know what the hell "Kingdom Hearts" even is for sure! Four main games into this thing (KH, CoM, KH2, BbS; trying to bring Coded and the DS game into it just makes things worse) and people still aren't sure what your title refers to? Probably time to let someone else take over plotting duties.

But regardless of what we feel the games still sell greatly and there's a large fandom that loves the story and characters.

It's alright, you may as well leave the spoiler tags at the door because I still have no idea what you are talking about.

On Sora's defense in the reunion scene,
he assumed Kairi was safe back home and was looking for Riku during the entire game with no idea about what really happened to him after the door to darkness was closed on his face
. :lol

I think Ansem Report 11 is only in KH: Final Mix right?
