Can we talk about the PlayStation 5's size....

True if this is math class trying to find the volume of an object.

But the calculation is valid for everyday usage since tv stand shelves are not built to contour to the shape of a curved device like PS5.
Well if you're going to be like that about it, only the width matters cause the depth is hidden by the cabinet or furniture in most cases.

Cool set up man :)
Don't bother, the height and width language of my entertainment center is more indicative of general overall dimensional design both horizontally and vertically.

The guy is off his rocker. Series X won't be a problem for basically anyone.

Exactly.

then again we're all responding to a big time Sony fan. Check his post history.

what happened is he's trying to spread fud as people are grilling PS5s size and forgot series x can be laid flat.

so to prove his point is trying to find the thinnest media stands which series x would have trouble fitting flat and claiming that's the norm

my tv stand has adjustable shelves with those little metal notch things. Anyone with a cabinet like mine can fit anything from giant flat devices like vcrs, PS5 or a big wide BR player, or tall shit like this big white Rogers Hitron router/modem which I stand vertically and resembles series x.

My laserdisc player is the exact height of the Series X when placed horizontally. If this can fit in this little piece of shit entertainment center I can't exactly imaging it being a problem for anyone really...

Yes. Most typical entertainment units below TVs are not constrained horizontally but they are vertically. The Series X is taller than the PS5 when placed horizontally thus it is logical to deduce that it will struggle to fit in more units than the PS5. What is so hard to understand about this?

Back up your claims

Show me all of these entertainment stands that can't fit the series X.

Here I'll start. Here are the first 10 stands from Amazon.

Put next to TV, and leave alone.

It will be my tower of power!!!

My Lord of the Rings White Tower.

Based on it's narrow shape, it will look smaller than the Xbox fridge.

Funny how this never comes up about PC's with their much larger cases.
Yup. My old ass tv stand was small and the slots were used, so I stood my 360 vertical on the ground

Well just did a check on my older version of the Corndell 1273 Nimbus - that we got free a year back from Brother/Sister in-law when they moved house and were going wall mounted and integrated shelves - and it will fit nicely with hand space around the side.

My bigger issue is: when on earth are more pre-orders opening up on Amazon.co.uk? - shakes fist at Sony and hopes to get in at day one.

I have got my Subwoofer on the left hand-side of the cabinet, so I might just even things up and place the PS5 on the right hand-side - stood upright - for maximum cooling.

It would be interesting to know what the power draw on PS5 was while the Demon's souls game was playing (in the trailer), as even with me retiring the PS4, I suspect my UPS that hides under the bottom draw might not have enough supply left - even if I place the 300watt Soundbar on the unprotected sockets.

Like I said the guy is looking for edge cases, what you've posted here is the general dimensional scaling of shelf space, it would fit in any one of these without question.

Laserdisc player? Like that shit from the 80s? Was laser disc rot really as bad as websites say?

They made Laserdisc players up until 2004, the last movies were produced in 2000. And no, out of the hundreds of movies I have I've only encountered it with 2-3 movies. It's not exactly a design flaw of the medium and more due to improper storage.

If it doesn't fit my desk its going to the floor in a standing position. It is what it is. Maybe it'll be better that way anyway as I won't have to look at it.

Well done for carefully selecting shelves that the Series X can fit in. The fact remains. Most TV stands are not horizontally restricted. They are designed to fit bluray players under and other wide peripherals, the key word is wide. The Series X is very tall when placed horizontally. The PS5 isn't as tall, logically then, the PS5 will fit under more units.

Lol oh thats what I did? Thats why all of them but 1 have thousands of ratings. The part where you have failed miserably at your weak trolling attempt is that any entertainment center that is designed for modern TV equipment has to accommodate a very key part of the setup which is an audio receiver. Not only are 95 percent of these models taller and wider than a series X, they are almost exclusively top ventilated meaning they need plenty of clearance horizontally and vertically for cooling. Your facts are not facts and you have failed to prove your facts in any regard. This conversation is over.

Concession accepted.

Guy posts Tom warrens tv stand with the shortest vertical space slots I've seen (maybe 1 inch clearance above an Xbox one x) which are not adjustable and claims most people have this kind of media stand so series x will fail in these kinds of stands.

Then forgets PS5 won't fit horizontal either.

Then doesn't bring up PS5 and a Tom warren style stand again.

lol

I think Sony designed the ps5 so big so you don't buy an Xbox .

simply, there is no room for a second console .

this thing is massive in a stupid way .

not that I am going to complain because the bigger the box, in most cases means it's better cooling / air flow .

mans the ps4 pro specially friggin sucked in that regard
That would be genius

I remember when japanese gamers criticized the original Xbox for being too big (that being one of the reasons of its failure there).
I wonder how PS5 will be received now in Japan.

Has there been a photo released comparing the PS5 directly in size to other consoles?

And Xbox Series X can lay horizontally, right?

Not another thread on this.

Yes it's taller by a few inches than your average console but the width and depth are pretty much standard.

Still much smaller than your average PC tower, Sound systems, VCR and even most Mini ITX builds. All which we accommodate without issues in our rooms past and present.

Seeing the amount of threads on this you would think it's an American Style Fridge Freezer which you won't be able to get through the door when delivered.

I had to move the PS4 pro out of my Entertainment cabinet because it was blocking the fans which caused the system to be very loud.

When I did this the fans become very quiet due to better air flow so I will most likely do this with the PS5.

Will this system actually present a problem for some of you putting it in your entertainment centers?

No, because I'm going to put the console on a sizeable table and not a barstool. My bigger 'concern' is whether or not the white on the console will start to look gnarly after a couple of years. I'm guessing it won't but you never know what corners had to be cut to keep the price low.

Series X

Volume = 15.0876Ă—15.0876Ă—30.099 = 6851.6061445022 centimeters3

PlayStation 5

Volume = 26.0096Ă—10.3886Ă—39.116 = 10569.273478185 centimeters3

I hope that paints a better picture.
The official dimensions are also without the fins, the console is a few cm taller. Looking at the certification pictures it looks more like 45cm and not 39cm.

Just be sure to dust the PS5. I dust my console each week. I plan to make a nice spot for it. I'm anticipating the spot it'll have in my entertainment center.

This thing better be silent as it would certainly cement Sony as possibly the worst designers of console hardware

the ps4 was a great machine but all versions were fucking loud and they had multiple revisions and it still sounded like a hairdresser salon in a jet takeoff bay

really hope a physical teardown happens soon

I think I have the same tv as you and it looks like you have the same issue as me. The little rubber film between the border and screen starts sticking out and coming uneven. Shit drives me nuts seeing that shit lol. Samsung TV quality is so shit. Something wrong with everyone I buy and I keep getting sucked into buying another one.

unless that's just the lighting...
