Capcom announces Dead Rising: Chop Til' You Drop for US (Press Release inside)

This is my most anticipated game on the Wii, I don't know what that says about the Wii, but I'm definately ready to go back into Willamette Mall for another play through with waggle. :D

The game uses the RE4 engine, costs $40, and the videos look fine to me (o_O), though more detail could be nice. I'm not seeing the problem, unless it is from trying to directly compare it to the 360 version.

On the PS2 Hitman comparison,

So you're saying Capcom should've taken away any meaningful AI, reduced all textures/polygon count for the zombies, and added in foggish lack of textures at a distance to allow more zombies on the screen? All but the lack of AI, could've been fine with me. It's not bad as it is, though.

They're zombies. Not RE4 Zombies, old school shamble forward and eat things zombies. not much AI necessary.

The biggest problem is that hte mall just feels empty as hell. It looks like there are less than half the zombies in any area, it just seems pointless.

That's more AI than was shown in the Hitman comparison. He sprays down about 50 people dancing in the street, and once he's stopped for a couple of seconds, the survivors just start dancing again, oblivious to the corpses. No real scattering. No mob violence. Nothing. Even lurching toward the player is a higher level of AI than that. If that's what's necessary to get more zombies on screen at once, no, thank you. :P

You googled "empty mall"...and it fits so well. :(

you know in the 360 version there was only a hand full of zombies AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME.

You guys stop to think maybe that is the case here? or is it just full on wii hate 24/7?

I don't know what's gotten into you, but I like the new Sprocket.

Here's hoping!
those covershops are still funny.

While GAF is full of Wii hate 24/7 there is no mistaking the horrible port job that is going on here.

1. The game looks like a bad PS2 game in spite of being made on the RE4 engine
2. Gameplay elements like Photo taking have been removed for no good reason
3. No more than 30 zombies have been shown on screen at any time in spite of the fact that games like Hitman on PS2 had levels packed with hundreds of people
4. Capcom has been happily showing off a really bad demo that everyone who plays hates, and they don't seem to care about the bad impressions
5. Capcom made an official trailer using the horrible build they've been showing that even used the same gun sounds from RE4

In other words everything I've seen so far about this game tells me that Capcom doesn't give a shit.

Seth Killian said that there is a better build than what they've been showing and the fact that the game was pushed back is promising, but the chances of this being total garbage are very, very high.

If they have to be as dumb as the people in the earlier Hitman video, no, thanks. :lol

Bear in mind that Dead Rising is one of the poster children for the Wii 'holding back gaming in the ghetto' as one of the few HD only games that did more than just offer a higher res version of a last gen game.

It getting a Wii port was always going to hit the wii hate brigade right where it hurts, and its been hated on from its initial announcement based on screenshots. If it turns out to actually be a more fun version of DR with improved inv management and save states despite its graphical downgrade, expect meltdowns. Very loud and obnoxious ones.

EDIT:
FWIW - I liked DRs save system but hated its inventory management.
I'm on the fence about double dipping on this one.

Uhmmm... no one's interested in this game anymore?

Do you think this is already doomed sales wise because of those early crap videos that Capcom not-so-wisely decided to release many months ago and that gave the game a bad rep?

Still, the game's devolpment time was upped another 6 months, that can't be bad... even some bits of the new video seems pretty good so I'd say that's showing up as well.

Capcom can go to hell with this shit.

Oh yes, Christian Svennson also...

This game looks on paar with FarCry Vengeance...

Oh yeah Capcom, great effort with the weapon sounds of resident evil 4!

I stopped being interested when it was clear this was a no-effort, cash-in port job. I don't know how this game will sell, but it won't change the fact that the game is a really crappy effort by Capcom.

Pretty much this

There is WAY TOO many assets from RE4. They even put Ashley's voice in there for that random girl :l

Honestly, most of the time I don't wish a game to have bad sells, but this game? Shows no Effort or time.

I actually had hopes for this one but as time went on and more media was released... Well, now I'm just glad I'll be able to play the 360 version soon enough.

Maybe this is the final excuse they need to stop making games for wii. They can tell their share holders that wii isnt worth it.

i know this game is gonna tank because everyone can see its poor poor effort.

I would be fine with this decision. Capcom can't handle the Wii

How do you explain Monster Hunter 3 and Tatsunoku vs. Capcom?

They should have ported DMC 4.

Edit: hey, there are actually more then 5 zombies on the screen in this vid.

Well they added a few more zombies in the latest footage, still looks like its a slopped together port. I would not mind another delay, we know the Wii is capable of more than the GCN, but developers are either refusing or unable to push it

I am a sucker for these games though and anything made with the RE4 engine is worth looking at, even if it is just a rushed job or half-assed cash-in

I still haven't played Dead Rising yet, but if I do, it'll definitly be on 360.

The Hitman comparison is pretty misleading. On the Mardi Gras level, the huge amounts of people literally don't have AI. Not on PC, 360, etc. IIRC aiming at people made your reticule change color(PC), but it didn't react to them. Even on the map they weren't listed as normal people, and at the end of the level when it listed amount of people you killed, none of them counted.

All the levels in Blood Money have a good amount of people, but the massive amount there shows off nothing.

My main beef is that Dead Rising could be fantastic on the Wii. Using all the different, crazy weapons with the remote could be great fun if implemented properly. The problem with this port is that it just looks so sloppily put together - visuals that don't even come close to RE4 despite running on the same engine, all kinds of re-used assets, far too few zombies and the castration of too many features of the original game.

So far it seems less like a lite version of Dead Rising and more an abomination.

You just described about 90% of the Wii's third party games.

Fuck, now you're teasing us.
Damn you Crapcom, pull a Capgod ffs.

I wish this game was going to be on the same quality level as its cover :D

Btw, yesterday I played a bit of the 360 game and, together with the Re5 demo I really find myself craving for these games on Wii.
But there's no way I'm going to cave in and pay for such a poor effort, no sir.
I would be fine if they'd delayed the game again and gave it another 6 months and double the staff for those remeaining months.

...and that Ashley's voice thing is all kinds of rediculous! :lol

I guess it is a good idea to market this game without gameplay footage. Not sure about this though. :P

Gameplay footage was there, it was just in the background so nobody could see it clearly with the dancing clown and other things going on stage :lol

I would only buy it at 30 €...

Is that so?
Then I guess you might just wait a couple of weeks from release date, it's already €34,90 shipped at play.com
