Perhaps those two things are linked.
Large Monsters:Will it actually surpass MH3U and MHFU in terms of content? If so, that would be insane. That would also mean MH4G would be even more insane.
I get the feeling there's little crossover between Pokemon and MH fans. Monster Hunter eats Pokemons breakfast and steals its lunch money.
Why am I getting that eerie feeling that this might be another one of those franchises put on ice for a while...
Multiple ports for the latest entries, slow release cycles for numbered titles on a platform that is largely unproven for the franchise. Inflated, possibly unrealistic sales goals...
Brace yourselves Monster Hunter fans. We may be getting an excellent game, but if this is the mentality Capcom is approaching it with, if they think this is their "saviour" that will make up for their mistakes this may end up being the next franchise that they put on ice.

Actually, Capcom expects to sell 2.8M by March 2013.You're making stuff up there. First of all, Mon Han 3G isn't a port it's an update of Tri and updates isn't something new to this franchise at all as every generation of Monster Hunter has gotten one. Secondly, Mon Han 3G has sold pretty well on the 3DS and was key in creating a fan base on that console for Mon Han 4. That and the 3DS is in a pretty good position sales wise in the country of Japan. Last they haven't stated how much they hope this is to sell in any given time frame just that they want it to break records which is more than possible for this installment. Your inflated and possibly unrealistic sales goals point isn't based on anything other than "wanting to break records."
I'm talking about quality, calm down sales nerds. I'm sure Pokemon will easily outsell MH lol. This made me giggle. If you're talking about sales, Pokemon is going to absolutely destroy MH4 in Japan and beyond. It won't even be remotely close.
Or more like Nintendo threw Capcom money first. People act like Capcom jumped on board with Nintendo after the Vita came out but the dead was in place long before.

Well if it isn't going to perform well on the 3DS in Japan it wouldn't perform at all, so I see where their congidence comes from. 3G sold absolute gangbusters, it being the third rerelease of an old wii game on a platform that didn't host it's massively successful predecessors. I'd go out on a limb to say that only on the PSP might they be able to do even bigger numbers. Why am I getting that eerie feeling that this might be another one of those franchises put on ice for a while...

I feel like Nintendo messed up on this one. They should have given Capcom money to have MH4 come out in NA/EU at the same time as Japan. And I don't think MH4 will break records of any kind unless it has a long sales tail... I think that honor will most likely go to a Nintendo title. Most likely the next Pokemon that's coming.
I stand corrected.
That's perfectly doable, 3G sold nearly 2 million copies in Japan and it's an update of gen 3. Hardly inflated or unrealistic
Why not release it on everything?

I think 3M+ is a realistic expectation for this game, not counting future budget releases that will add a few hundred thousand more sales. I just doubt they will hit the heights of Portable 3.
I think the sales would be bigger than that. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD for PS3 sold over 400k, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for WiiU sold a few hundred thousand as well. Releasing it on more than one platform is not really a bad idea if they want to break sales record for a game (well, it on if Capcom about a record for one version only or the game in general though). It doesnt have to be released at the same time of course (in that case, the Vita version would have sold much more than 100k).
Some of the crazy Nintendo fans (who didn't buy MH3U and are perched in this thread) should hold tight to their wigs, because MH Vita is perfectly possible, and I actually expect it to happen years from now.

If they want to break records they will need to release it on multiple systems.
edit: whoa, that video looks awful. good frame rate but it looks terrible graphically.

Stop asking for Dark Souls 2 on Wii U.this point can be made for every game developed under the sun, yet this multi platform 'benevolence' msgboard gamers seem to preach, only comes up when they're taking about games exclusive to nintendo platforms...
and in particular, a nintendo system that is outselling everything else on the market with a robust library of 1st & 3rd party titles, and a very healthy ecosystem. By their logic, EVERY game should be developed for 3ds as well, then? i mean, games should be multi platform, right?
lets not be stupid here. these 'multi platform' requests are simply made by 'playstation generation' gamers who think all games should come to sony platforms first and foremost, regardless of the health of the platform and the wiiU-level fuck ups sony has made with their handheld, market wise.
Your reasoning for it not going to cell phones is a poor control method? For Monster Hunter? The franchise that spawned claw gaming on PSP.I find that unlikely till phones come with buttons and sticks/slidepads.
They chose the handheld that they could re-use PS2 assets on with the PSP. They've done the same with the 3DS. They chose the 3DS for development costs. That isn't to say the price to make MH Vita would be incredibly expensive, instead it's because a MH Vita would require them to make significantly higher res assets, which they have always been resistant to do.Or maybe they wanted to go with a Nintendo handheld all along but the DS didn't have enough power to run Monster Hunter so they went with the PSP instead.
I'd argue that it is incredibly realistic, just not in the near term. Sony clearly isn't giving up on the Vita, they aren't losing money on the Vita, and it keeps moving strong numbers for big releases, which also has a corresponding HW sales bump the weeks those titles release. As they bring MSRP on the system and cards down sales will improve and it'll likely trudge along to a 20M+ userbase all said and done. That will offer far too many sales for Capcom to not cash in at some point with a MH port over from 3DS/Wii U. It just isn't likely in the next 2 years and it'll be a lazy port job straight over, low res assets and all. This is even more unrealistic than Mh4 out-selling MHP3rd....
Dude, keep your eye on this thread. You're about to have your mind blownPeople really beg for ports of iOS games?![]()

Geeze Capcom what are you doing putting the biggest series in Japan on the biggest platform in Japan? Are you mental?
I didn't know Capcom is releasing a new MH for iPhone.
iphone isn't a gaming console and isn't (right now) the user base you wanna sell a game like monster hunter too.
Well if AC:NL can sell almost 3.5 mil in Japan alone then I believe MH will certainly surpass it. I fully expect records to be broken.
All this talk of Pokemon and Monster Hunter makes me wish for a crossover.
You keep telling yourself that. Japaneses are gaming (and spending money on games) on iPhone more than anything else right now. Smartphone userbase will be included into any gaming business decision from now on.
I like ( used to be obsessed, until my breakdown in MHFU ) MH but I truely never understood how come this franchise is so big in Japan.
It's hard to get into.
It's not new people friendly.
Very "barebones" combat.
Yet, it's widely popular and mainstream.
Deserved success but kinda goes against all other games like that in Japan.

Capcom gives no fucks about controls. They care about sales, namely sales that don't cost them significant asset expenses. Before long that's going to fit pretty well on most smartphones.

Nintendo supposedly offered to help push the game outside Japan as part of the deal, but Capcom knew where they wanted to be all along and stalled just enough to get some free marketing out of Nintendo.

When it comes to gaming, smartphones might as well mean iPhones. You are mixing up IPhones with smartphones in general. But what are trying to say? No more console support?
lol, i'm very interested in how you think 20 million is even a remote possibility

What do you mean? The amount of different things you can do in combat are what make the games so good.
He's probably thinking WW.
Why he'd bring up WW sales in a thread about a series which sells more than 90% of its units in Japan.. I don't know either.
