Captain America: Civil War SPOILER Thread - #TeamThanos

The movie? No, it was much much much better than AoU.

But there was a real problem with the airport fight and just the one fight. Quips were coming a mile a minute and it made no sense given what was happening on screen. Huge tonal discord.

It makes perfect sense that Spider-Man would quip constantly, he's a nervous kid on his first big outing fighting people he's looked up to. The quips in that scene all come from the funny characters who are less invested in the emotional core of the plot.

Apparently it didn't work for you but it got huge positive response in theater both times I've seen it, and people on this thread can't shut up about how great the scene is, so I'd say it's more about your tastes/tolerances for jokes than the movie itself.

It's not like Cap or Tony were the ones making jokes.

Uh oh....

I may be wrong, but I was sure Wanda called Vision "Viz" when he phased into her room, that was really adorable.
They're really pushing that romance angle. Wonder what'll happen to vision when I assume Thanos takes his gem from him, I'm expecting Wanda to go berserk thinking he's dead or something

Dear Tony,

I know that:

  • Falling off a HYDRA train into an ice cold river and nearly dying
  • Losing my left arm
  • Becoming a prisoner of war for the second time
  • Undergoing experimentation by Arnim Zola and his scientists
  • Being mind-controlled and thus being forced to work for my greatest enemies
  • Losing nearly all memories of my former life
  • Constantly undergoing mind-wipes after my missions
  • Undergoing suspended animation for over sixty years
  • Coming back to my own mind and realizing that nearly everyone I ever cared about and knew other than Steve was either very old or dead.
Can't possibly ever excuse my actions or match the suffering you went through. I definitely deserved for you to try to kill me and blow my arm off again. Here's a burner phone, call me if you want to talk.

Sorry that's a weak defense. That's like having doom in a movie but don't act like him at all. Or have joker introduced for the first time in a movie but without clown makeup and just doing bank robberies. He's the one true villian in the film and if want named Zemo I'd have no problem with it. But they chose that and decided to use nothing of the actual character
No I think it's just an origin story for him.

Like the villains in Gotham (tv show).

He'll develop and most likely wear the mask in future titles

I like you.

Was that supposed to be a "He skips leg day." reference? Knowing Tony, that would make the most sense, but the dialogue is too ambiguous.

Nah, just meant that cap mostly protects his upper body with his shield so his legs are wide open the whole time.

Looking back at the film, what the hell was The Vision doing the whole fight before Ant-Man turned huge? Don't remember seeing him at all.

Finding a proper way to tell wanda that his boner wasnt syntetic in the prison-house.

They're really pushing that romance angle. Wonder what'll happen to vision when I assume Thanos takes his gem from him, I'm expecting Wanda to go berserk thinking he's dead or something

I'd love to see a MCU version of wanda going berserk and breaking all realities.

I just watched the movie and I think it was great. I didn't however, like the ending all that much as I felt like Cap basically didn't give a crap about the Starks. He didn't try to relate to how Tony was feeling and end the end just threw the shield at Tony which said "I don't give a shit about that." It's crazy considering that Tony's dad really had a soft spot for Cap and in the end, all that mattered was Bucky. I get that it was his friend, but Tony was his friend, too. Also, Bucky didn't try to diffuse the situation, either. At no point does he really try to empathize with Tony and own up to what he did. I just felt like they wanted all three of them to fight and that was the best way for it to happen.

That said, in some way it fits with the Captain because he just doesn't try to solve things without getting into a fight. Which I thought was interesting when Black Widow basically asks him if they're going to end up fighting. It's the Cap, that's what he does.

I think they let the Captain get away with a lot of stuff because it was his movie. Still, I enjoyed it and felt like the Black Panther and Spidey were awesome. Can't wait to see their stand alone movies.

Dont fuck with Brooklyn.

"I didn't kill them, HYDRA did."

Obviously the man who is overwhelmed with grief and anger doesn't care about that either at the moment.

I think people should go easy on holding Tony to this altruistic, do-no-wrong standard when he himself obviously don't. Which is why he's in favor of the Sokovia Accord to begin with.

Just got back from watching the movie and I fucking loved it. My only real complaint is that Captain America's apology (or lack thereof) seemed half-assed though I'd expect it for his character, sort of. Or maybe that was the point and the tension between Cap and Ironman will serve as a plot device for a future ensemble film.

Pretty much.

Team Iron Man people worry me.

Hmmm... I dunno. Seemed like that moment was meant to be humorous and I don't see why that would funny!
Nah, I don't think it was meant to be humorous. The leg day thing wouldn't even make sense because cap has kicked a fuck load of people, even kicked one guy so hard he flew off of a boat.
People saying it was a bit too quippy during the fight, I think it was basically trash talking.
Don't see a problem with the quips. It makes sense in context because it was fight between friends. I would compare it to a sparring match with someone you know

Surprised people want more out of Zemo for some hope he'll end up being his HYDRA self considering it's quite apparent they reshaped the character as a tool to bring out the movie's main theme. Seemed like his purpose is done and I don't expect him to return but who knows.

Ya if you watch Cap 2, Steve kept protecting his upper body and the HYDRA goons never aimed down once. You know Winter Soldier is better than the average goon because he aims down and Steve had to turtle.

Maybe Suicidebolts in the future.

Marvel loves killing villains left and right so if they really didn't intend for him to return they wouldn't have kept him alive.

sorry, but hydra planning their deaths doesn't excuse Bucky.
They didn't just plan their deaths.

HYDRA executed their deaths. He was under mind control. What about that do you not understand?

What was Bucky supposed to do?

"Oh no, excuse me, Mr. HYDRA Agent. I don't feel like being mind controlled today. I'm going to leave and go home. kthnxbai!"

It would make total sense for Tony to make a mean-spirited joke like that. If you know anything about fitness culture; speaking ill of a fit man's lower body is an easy way to make them feel self-conscious. Even if their legs are clearly strong. It's a stupid thing that's a thing.

But I'll acquiesce, I'll have to pay attention to that line when I see it again this week

So if a headshot can kill the supersoldiers, would that also kill Cap? We saw him take several gunshots in WS, but those were body shots that he could regenerate.

And conversely, can the supersoldiers regenerate a headshot? I wouldn't expect them to come back since they were just a plot device, but just curious.

Like that absolves him completely.

I died at the part when tony told spidey that he was done he was trying to get up and tony say he will tell aunt bae, and Spidey just layed on the ground lmao

That joke makes no sense tho, which would mean Tony wouldn't make it to begin with. Skipping leg day is a reference to the weight lifters that only focus on their upper body and they have chicken legs.

When cap holds his shield, where does he hold it? Just below his chin. What does that leave exposed? His legs. It was strategy not a quip.

No one knows. These characters largely do what the creative writing talent need them to do. That's why the whole "X > Y" character discussions have always been stupid.

I just explained how it could make sense.

I don't buy the alternative explanation even though my interpretation is admittedly weak.

We'll agree to disagree.

If anything I saw it as a F U from tony to cap. Since he's going around telling people his weakness, he even has a high-tech bolo specifically for their encounter later

Tony and more-so Bucky were the victims in this movie, trying to argue otherwise is dumb. Anyone who thinks Tony wasn't justified in going berserk at the end have no empathy.

Doesn't excuse him trying to kill an innocent man.

His action reflects badly on him, yes, but I see no point in bringing up what's logical to an obviously emotional moment. And comparing which person suffers more is just weird.
