What bugs me a bit is how Spidey and Ant-man were recruited for one specific thing each (Spidey to take Cap's shield and Scott waits in the shield somehow?) and after that they're muscles. Tony is a bit fucked up if he recruited a high school kid in a battle against Winter Soldier.
Yup. I read already team Stark. I knew Bucky killed his dad. I knew Steve kept it quiet. Watching that shit? Well..I expect my diehard #TeamCap daughter to flip sides right then and there. Shit is pretty intense.
Have to compare that to pre-war Bucky. Dude's life is fucking tragic. Left for dead, stuck with Hydra (and whoever else might be running the WS program) for years, left to suffer through years of mental destruction. That he gains anything back at all in terms of memory is a miracle.
If Tony never realized that his dad was in the Spy business (and he was for years with Shield/SSR), then you shouldn't be too surprised when bad shit comes back around.
I think people are ignoring the fact that, for the most part, everyone is holding back. The wildcards are Ant-Man/Spider-Man. They're a fucking mess, ultimately. But both leaders needed an unknown agent to help their side.
Both regret it somewhat, but had their reasons. Cap regretted it more..no No doubt.

Also are there any official in-universe explanation for the lack of Fury/Hill? They were prominent in the last Cap movie and they seem back in action in AoU.
my biggest issue with the film was Zemo's ultimate reason for setting all of this up was just because he was another person who lost something in Sokovia. Thought that reveal would have a better payoff

The only thing that bothered me about the Sokovia reveal was it clearly made that death toll General Ross showed even more bullshit. His family was miles away from town and yet only about 200 people died during that incident? Bulllllll-fucking-shit

Yeah, it's true. Except for, as previously discussed, the assclown Vision. If that laser hit Falcon it would have obliterated his spine.
Especially since Tony was equally pissed off at Cap being a fucking liar.
Tony's ego is one issue in the movie but Steve's is being completely dishonest. Reminds me of the video on YouTube someone made that talked about how Steve sidesteps a lot of hard questions aimed at him by waxing poetic even though he fears not having a battle to fight.

I can't lie. I can/could see it. I've got a "Bucky" in my life. Love that man to death. My wife and children understand that without him, there was no them. Still. If he fucks up that hard, he's got my voice. I'm there for him. Nigga still needs to answer for his shit..
Also Zemo was a great Villain for the movie, cause he is one of the consequences of the casualties caused by the Avengers. It was good they didn't chose a crazy Metahuman and kept it at a very personal level. At the end I didn't had the feeling that Cap or Stark was right.
Zemo is great because he sets you up to believe in a stereotypical final act against the other winter soldiers, but that's all just great misdirection and the end is a lot more personal and much better for it.
The great thing about the movie is ultimately you're both right. Unlike the comics where Tony was imprisoning people in the fucking negative zone for not playing ball.
When you think about it the movie's emotional conflict is basically the trolley problem except with two people fighting to choose.
Tony did everything he could in this movie to keep the team together. Steve did everything he could in this movie just for Bucky.
On the surface value Tony got far more shit for it, even if Steve is consistently fielding away an even more insidious undercurrent. Tony exhibited a lot of moments where he had genuine care for Steve and even the people who were against his camp, and he'd still have control wrestled out of him with guilt directed his way for it. Steve never wavered, however that culminated in the biggest defeat of all, symbolizing by him leaving his shield.

I don't really think his actual intent in doing that was a bad thing. The problem boils down to what Natasha said later on after the airport battle. "Can't you let your ego down for just a few seconds?"
Keeping SW in check after a national incident before the actual accords went through made the absolute most sense. It's the same way the Avengers had to lay low after Hulk fucked up Wakanda. The difference is Tony was being a bit of a dick about it, and to that end yeah, I see Steve not jiving with that at all.
Tony's idea was fundamentally stupid. They've already established that in this universe political bodies can be infiltrated by forces of evil, and that world ending events or actions that accelerate them can spring up very quickly and require immediate attention. And he wants everyone to sit down until a bunch of politicians agree that using the Avengers is necessary?
The attempt to put a semi-realistic political framework around these characters doesn't make sense. Clint was right - Tony's idea is so ridiculous it's not even worth arguing with.

Saw it earlier. Man, what a ride. Feels unreal. I have to see it again and I already have another two viewings scheduled for the next two weeks. First impulse however is that it's the best MCU movie, bar none. I'll refrain from comparing it to any other movies however (not characters tho because Spidey).
I think the biggest achievement was in how Markus, McFeely and the Russos managed to balance this many characters while still keeping it a Captain America movie. People were joking about how this should just be called Avengers 2.5: Civil War. It was honestly my biggest worry coming from absolutely loving Winter Soldier and being mildly disappointed in Age of Ultron. But that was completely unwarranted. Civil War is, at its core, still Cap's and Bucky's story. That it also manages to be a better Avengers movie than Age of Ultron is just the cherry on top.
It's too late and I'm entirely too tired to write something long and coherent but here are some things I liked (and a few I didn't):
The Lagos/Crossbones stuff was a great starting point. It was nice to see the Avengers from the ending of AoU in action and have them work together as a team. I mean, they didn't have to kill off another villain but I guess it somewhat made sense since they needed that collateral damage.
I was so happy to see the return of WS Natasha after Whedon tried his worst to ruin her in AoU. She had some great moments and was kicking ass all over the place. I really, really need a Black Widow solo movie now. Make her team-up with Hawkeye or Bucky if you need to, just give me more of this Nat.
Speaking of which, I loved Hawkeye's return. Him trapping Vision, "made you look" etc. Just great all around. I know, people clown him and Renner but he's a good guy, bro.
Make him the leader of the Avengers post Infinity War.
Sam & Bucky interaction had me in stitches. I wanna rewatch it just for the short bits in the VW Beetle alone.
The airport fight scene just blew my mind. There's so much stuff, I don't even know where to begin. Spidey, Giant-Man, Black Panther's quadruple Tekken kick... just too much. It was off the walls crazy.
Favourite third act. Bar none. They could have gone the easy route with Cap, Bucky and Tony fighting the Chekov 5 but instead we got the three duking it out amongst themselves in one of the most emotional scenes in Marvel cinema and seeing T'Challa growing even further as a king.
I loved Vision's interactions with the other characters, especially Wanda of course. When he enters her room or when he tries to cook for her. Great character work there. So I was a little surprised to see that he didn't actually do that much fighting? Also, when he shot down Rhodey, did he miss because of his newfound humanity making him unfocused or *puts on tinfoil hat* was that Wanda's magic?
I was fine with how Zemo was portrayed. Having a bigger focus on him would have taken away from the primary conflict between Steve and Tony. Downside was that his motivation didn't seem "grandiose" enough for a comic book villain. Like damn, everybody's family died in Sokovia. However, it seems like they're gonna build him up as a recurring villain so they will hopefully flesh him out. Let's just hope he doesn't have the same fate as Stucker but actually gets to be Baron Zemo.
T'Challa was fierce. Wasn't playing around and took shit from no one. Had some good moments with Black Widow too. And his fighting style? Jesus. You can tell dude operates on a different level. Great introduction. And then the Wakanda post-credit scene? As I said before, where are the people that thought that Lagos scene was set in Wakanda? Can we publicly laugh at them?
Spidey was fucking amazing. The way he was introduced, Aunt May, his convo with Tony in the bed room, his contribution to the fight at the airport... The one thing I didn't like was how it's implied that Tony makes all his stuff, further reinforced by the second post-credit scene. But I guess I can live with that since everything else is spot-fucking-on.
Clint came out of retirement to do the right thing.
It's such a Tony thing to drop the family line on Clint for trying to help in a shitty situation that Tony helped create in the first place. Tony only knows how to guilt trip people. Curiously enough it's also super effective on him. Coincidence?
Just got back from seeing it. It blew away all my expectations, and then some. Marvel really nailed BP and Spider-Man. I mean, this movie retroactively put my hype levels for BP, Spider-Man and Infinity War all up to 11.
when you really think about it deep enough, it all goes back to tony.
>> tony stark continues to run stark industries by creating weapons that was used for terrorism
>> Wanda's parents were killed by those said weapons which made the twins blame him and made them join the superhuman trials by hydra
>> hydra used the twins against the avengers, wanda made tony hallucinate about the world's end causing him to create ultron
>> ultron destroys sokovia killing hundreds of civilians that caused some people to blame the avengers
>> tony feels guilty and uses the accords to control the superhero team that he helped create and throw Wanda off the Avengers
He backed them and wanted to force everyone to sign of have them be jailed.
Plus when he saw how they were jailed, he immediately was like "oh it's your fault for not listening to me".
I think they did a good job not making Tony a complete ass, but neither team was "right" in the end
You know, if a group of superpowered people for whatever motive decides to steal a high tech airplane, causing millions of dollars in property damage to an airport, and grevious damage to a well known hero PLUS let a suspect in a terrorist attack to flee the country, you can be sure that most of us would be ok with letting them be detained somewhere.
Also luckily, most of the bad stuff in the movie wasn't anyone's fault, just Hydra's or collateral damage.
He was disgusted with how they were treated. And honestly I feel like Clint was pushing it a bit too far. Again, a bit out of character for his movie version since he didn't strike me as asshole-ish.

Millions of damage because Tony wouldn't listen to Cap or reason with him. One Winter Soldier did enough for Hydra, 8 more of them could do a lot more damage than just some airport.
Cap only got involved with helping Bucky because they had kill on sight order for Bucky. When they finally arrest Bucky, Cap mention that at least Bucky is alive and he's okay with that.
