Corning Incorporation announced today its plan to unveil Gorilla Glass 2 at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week, and the company said more product details would be made available Jan. 9.
The Corning, N.Y.-based company plans to showcase the critical role of highly engineered specialty glass in addressing emerging trends at CES 2012. Some of the highlights include increased functionality from smaller form factors; connected devices in new applications; touch technology; and, large-format design aesthetics.
However, the main attraction to the Corning booth will be the introduction of Gorilla Glass 2, which is the next generation of the damage-resistant cover glass found on practically every consumer electronic today. CES attendees will have access to Corning experts and products featuring the latest Gorilla Glass applications.
The timely debut of Gorilla Glass 2 comes just before the rumored early-2012 launch of the iPad 3, as well as the rumored summer-to-fall launch of the iPhone 5, leaving room for Apple to include the latest technology on its upcoming devices.
Yowch.
How much are we talking about for this camera? Any clue?

The LG Google TV comes with the Magic Remote Qwerty and a user interface based on Android Honeycomb. The Magic Remote Qwerty is a combination of its voice-controlled Magic Remote with a QWERTY keyboard. With the LG Google TV users can expect an interface and main screen designed for convenient browsing. Those hoping to do a bit of multi-tasking, dont fret. The search, social networking and TV functions can be run simultaneously.
LGs Google TV will come equipped with LGs own CINEMA 3D technology. The built-in 2D to 3D conversion engine allows any 2D content to be viewable in 3D. CINEMA 3D glasses, which are battery-free and relatively affordable, will be required for viewing 3D content. This TV looks promising, however, one specification that has yet to be released is size. But with CES just around the corner, we wont have to wait much longer for that information.
LG reveals Google TV
That looks terrible. I'll keep my XBMC + iPad remote app, thanks.
Interestingly they re-upped with Google for the next generation of GoogleTV ... and are planning on showing new HW.
And holy crap ... 2.0 looks WAYYYYYYYYY better than the original.

What's the deal with GoogleTV these days anyways? Honestly I thought they were going to be default on most new TVs this year as a built in service. It seems like the most obvious way to get heavy distribution into the market and put a nice bullet point on the box to sell more TVs.
Is this happening and it's just not being talked about or is Google having problems cutting deals with manufacturers or what?
They're supposed to make a big fuss about it for 2012 according to schmidt.

http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/10/...tv-cost-us-dearly-no-revue-replacement-comingYesterday, Logitech hosted an Analyst and Investor Day and during his remarks, CEO Guerrino De Luca pulled absolutely no punches in describing the "mistakes" the company made with its Logitech Revue Google TV set top box. Calling the company's Christmas 2010 launch "a mistake of implementation of a gigantic nature," De Luca told investors that the company had "brought closure to the Logitech Revue saga" by making plans to let inventory run out this quarter and that there are "no plans to introduce another box to replace Revue."
De Luca suggested that Google TV was far from ready at launch, going so far as to call it "beta" software on one presentation slide, and that the company made a massive misstep by believing that it would revolutionize television right out of the gate. In short, Logitech "executed a full scale launch with a beta product and it cost us dearly." He added more color about Logitech's failure to read the television market in his remarks:
To make the long story short, we thought we had invented [sliced] bread and we just made them. [We made a commitment to] just build a lot because we expected everybody to line up for Christmas and buy these boxes [at] $300 [...] that was a big mistake.
The mistake, plus "operational miscues in EMEA" cost the company "well over $100M in operating profits." De Luca did throw Google a bone by saying that he believes Google TV will have a chance sometime in the future, but it would be a "grandchild of Google TV" that would do it. Logitech clearly has no plans to help make that happen, opting instead to sit "on the bench" (as De Luca had put it in an earlier call) until Google can find success.
http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Web-Servic...le-TV-Blocked-on-ABC-CBS-NBC-Websites-638513/Claiming Google is not doing enough to protect them from digital piracy, ABC, CBS and NBC are blocking programming on their Websites from Google TV. Hulu also blocks Google TV.
Television networks ABC, CBS and NBC are shielding programming on their Websites from Google TV, citing concerns that the service does not adequately protect their programming from piracy.
Google TV 2.0 looks like a "reboot" (think Honeycomb -> ICS). The new boxed will be based on ARM, they'll have proper partnerships and the stuff will be build into new TVs, instead of having just another box under your current TV. THough that will be still an option for people who want to "upgrade".
logitech screwed themselves by pricing it the way they did. It's convenient to blame Google but when you think its a good idea to bring something to the market at the price they did where every competitor is under $100, then you are an idiot and Logitech deserved it

I hate this fucking controller, i hate how Sony made the box look beautiful but thought a dualshock with tiny fucking keys would be the best way to interface with the TV.

Nothing at CES will get me excited, i expect a megaton of trashy android Tablet TV Garbage.
But seriously. How do you design a controller for google tv? The only thing I can think of is having a 'normal' tv remote and then a Google TV Remote App available on all mobile platforms.

God that remote looks so good. Haven't ever used one, but it makes sense to me.
AppleTV's "Remote" app you can download for the iPad or iPhone are another awesome solution. Touchscreen acts as a virtual trackpad and for text entry you can just use the standard iOS keyboard...and it intelligently only presents this when there is actual text entry. Neato.
Check out the video. That looks terrible. I'll keep my XBMC + iPad remote app, thanks.
The interface looks like it's been updated a bit more than that as has performanceIt's nothing new, that's google tv 2.0, they just made a couple of widgets.
While that may be true, it's convenient to not include Google in the blame as well. GoogleTV was typical Google Beta material - if that. I think quite obviously, the companies involved were led to believe it would be much further along than it was.logitech screwed themselves by pricing it the way they did. Siri.
And how well does it work? Any videos? Companies can tout voice recognition all they want but execution is key. It needs natural language processing and contextual awareness. That's how LG does it. Their magic remote combined a 3D mouse and voice control. The new version will also add QWERTY

The problem is XBMC fails for streaming services.I've built so many media centers in the last year, even used PS3 or 360 as one as well. I always, always come back to XBMC .. it really is the defacto media center, tried and true and so very awesome/beautiful. All of these new Roku/GoogleTV/AppleTV shit is just terrible. The interfaces all look like absolute shit.

For me the only thing that matters going forward is probably the Xbox 720 or PS4. How we are their media center features going to be integrated. Make or break it guys.. if not, I'm sticking with what I have and what works.
