$50 will get you 4km x 4km land ownership anywhere in the universe after the game is launched.. the game play mechanics are still years away.

what were they thinking?

Gotta continue the scam somehow.

Imagine that they have land tax, and you have to pay real money to pay for that tax or they repossess your land. lol!

You will be able to claim land with ingame currency.

They are only offering to buy with money as a form of backing/supporting the game. They even stated in the article you linked that there wont be any difference between money bought and ingame currency bought land.

Nice try with the bait though

the difference is players who paid with real money are entitled to land before people earning it through mission objectives.

EA said the same thing with Battlefront 2 lol

Complete and utter disgust is how I feel right now :|

I've put in almost $2,000 to make this game possible but this is now out of hand and I'm worried about what they are going to try to sell next. Like do we need these claim lands for our hangars which we already bought and own? Are they double dipping with this? Like what the heck is going on? They going to sell houses next?

This is completely different than buying an actual existing item which I could justify previously.. But now they are now selling the promise of playable terrain? I just don't believe this is real.

Someone must have shown them the millions of dollars people have spent purchasing land in the sci fi mmo "Entropia Universe" and CIG thought they could do the same.

This doesnÂ’t bother me.

Pay outright for it or buy with in-game currency. Not everyone has 10 hours a day to grind for currency.

As long as there are no lootboxes and everything is available in game without insane waiting periods or just completely over-the-top grinding, IÂ’m cool with it.

I say this as someone with a big investment in the game.

If I had the time, I wouldnÂ’t mind grinding for currency, cause it can actually be fun if done correctly. But with limited time, I want to freedom concentrate on the really fun stuff which may or may not have to do with buying land at all.

Yeah, I would understand if you spend literal thousands on the ships at the beginning of the development, then they start to throw in cooler stuff for sale for more money.

You just feel ripped off.

Not that bothered about it tbh as long as it doesn't become ridiculously difficult to obtain land as a non paying player.

Players owning territory is not by any means anything new in sandbox mmos.

No worries, I'm sure they'll start selling space stations in a few months.

For all those saying you can buy land with in game money, that's true but really, not all land is equally valuable. Land near important stations will in much more demand and the players who buy plots will get it all first.

Haha these people are crazy like really, how the hell can you even think about selling land for a game that isn't even complete and no end in sight.
It's beyond crazy how carried away people get by this nonsense, but each to their own I guess.

Given that the game is in space, doesn't a 4km x 4km parcel seem really, really, really small?

I can see a moon or even a planet. Space is big. Given how slow population growth is in developed economies, there is no way a space faring culture could ever occupy fully every habitable planet in the galaxy. Or even a section of it. Not any time soon.

In real estate the most important thing is Location, location, location.

If you believe this game is coming out in the next 5 years, I've got a few acres of virtual land to sell you - Cloud Imperium Games.

Sounds kind of like Entropia Universe. Never touched the game but it sounds interesting, unlike this which is clearly a cash grab

From selling virtual spaceships to selling virtual land, of which there is an infinite amount.

This is a Trump University level scam.

Better get out while you still can.

Let em spend the money man.
I am enjoying this shit

This is basically the beginning of the end for this debacle. Most likely one final cash grab until this thing blows bigger than the Death Star.

As a backer, I've been keeping tabs on it and there seems to be some major shit coming down with the game soon.

Many loyal "whales" ie: fans with deep pockets are now asking for refunds and being turned down. The company is apparently in the process of mass departures of development staff, testers are breaking ndas with video of the "3.0" candidates that are basically a disaster/broken/pretty much unplayable, developers are now referring to the "3.0" build as a "viable product"(which they'll say is the game delivered to fans) along with the news of mulitple loans being taken out for the "game".

My best guess on what will happen is that Roberts will release the 3.0 build and then make a plea for more money(either by running another crowd funding campaign for "completion funding" or simply Roberts and team saying that 3.0 has delivered on his vision and the game is done. Remember "viable product". There's a reason why they're saying stuff like this imo.

F*cking shocking stuff from the devs. The amount they've been gifted to make this game has sailed into the hundreds of millions of $$$ but they've already set up a way to try and extract more money from gamers before its even finished.

No doubt these devs want to be bankrolled as multi-millionaires for the rest of their lives from the proceeds secured for this game.

Watching the development of this game from afar it seem like a really big and smart cash grab. This idea of selling in game land just seems just as dirty as Battlefront 2 progression sistem.
Than again, I am not a backer, and it seems that they are not really bothered by this.

What I can say is that I can't wait a god documentary five years down the line about this game.

I donÂ’t claim to have deep knowledge about the entire Star Citizen situation, but from my point of view, this entire thing seems so freaking shady. I remember a couple of years back when there was a huge debate about the game when someone (donÂ’t remember who) claimed, that Chris Roberts was running a scam with SC because he continued to take donations while knowing that he wouldnÂ’t be able to finish his vision for the game (at least in a reasonable timeframe).
Most people were defending Roberts back then, but as time goes on I start to wonder whether or not those accusations might have been justified.

This must be the most shameful cash grab in the history of video games.

I genuinely feel bad for the backers. So much money went into this game and there still is no finished product. Sorry guys but at this point your better off waiting for HL3

Don't tell me they ran out of money...

This is my guess. Not literally "run out", but my guess is they've taken on outside investment either for equity or as a loan. Roberts will too easily justify it as "we can make it all back and more", but frankly I think once this game actually releases (if it ever does) the money and whales will dry up fast. Everyone has their own preconception what this game is, it's almost guaranteed to disappoint a majority.

I never should have bought a starter pack or whatever it's called.

I don't believe there will ever be a full game for a normal price. It's just gonna be secondlife in space.

Don't buy into it. It's a trap.

I'm guessing their 'concept ship sales' aren't enough anymore, now they'll also sell a land that doesn't exist. I wonder what's next in store for Star Citizen suckers? Lootbox pre-orders? Buy one now and you can win a land parcel or an imaginary ship? lol...

I don't even believe you have one. Most people in this thread only react on some "negative" news about SC. Most of the people don't even follow the project and think they know everything about it.

And even if land claiming sound weird, it's just a license so when you found something usefull land later in the game, you can claim it and build your bases of use it for resources. The claim is only so you will be protected by the UEE. Everyone can build their base if they want without this license. The difference is that you won't be protected by the UEE.

Yep, because you can only understand a situation (scam) if you're active in it. We all know you blind fools will keep defending this "thing" until you see evidence that this isn't going anywhere. Keep throwing money at them, if there is something clear, for anyone without any monetary or emotional involvement in this project, is that they mismanaged the dollars they received and are now preying on the whales. I didn't need to spend $5000 dollars to see that, sorry.

The only thing i see is that you don't really have your own opinion but just follow others and sucks to much Derek his dick.

The funny part is that this is the same shit people talk over and over again. So yes..if you don't follow the project just stfu if you don't know nothing.

If you knew anything...you don't even have to spent that much.

How much for full planet?

It's hilarously funny how they keep inventing new ways of getting money from playerbase while the game doesn't seem to hit any development milestones.

best pay2win game ever and it not released it.
Oh u want this cool mothership? pay 2000$ or grind 5 years (with ur whole family); SW Vttlefront is no where near,

Thought the game got a lot of private inv. totaling to the tune of around $100 mil.

Quite the personal insult you hurled. In the past these were never tolerated.

I don't care, it's just funny how much dumb shit some people talk about others. Those people and maybe you're one of them, are the one hanging all day long on Derek's discord.
