Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

Maybe they're having serious trouble writing it without Leia. I mean, they said they aren't changing EP 8. So what, there's a considerable time skip between Ep 8 & 9 and Leia dies off-screen? That's a really shitty situation they have there.

Unless there's a time skip within TLJ there has to be a considerable one before IX anyway or else this is going to be one short war.

Did everyone just suddenly start using the word "Stan" in the last day? Never seen it before and now it's everywhere.

From the people who brought you "Mary Sue" - and the same tired arguments, over and over again - who were also heartbroken when RLM liked the film and didn't deliver the expected scathing talking points that they could steal and repeat over and over again.

They must really love what Rian has done with 8. Giving all the change we've seen in recent weeks with directors, it would not surprise me if Rian nabs it.

TFA was incredible, given the circumstances : having to please old and new fans alike, having to please OT purists and the Prequel lovers, having to do something new an familiar at the same time.

Rogue One was ok.

Deadline is reporting that Abrahams and Johnson are at the top of the short list with Johnson having the edge.

Rian is the extremely obvious pick, and the one I'd put my money on, and JJ is the extremely obvious second pick. I'd be happy with either.

(Ava would be a great pick for fresh blood, and Spielberg is the impossible dream.)

Is Rian even working on any projects at the moment other than editing TLJ? I think he's said that he'd love to work on another SW film so I'd be a little surprised if he isn't the one who steps in.

As far as I can tell, no. Honestly, the only way Rian doesn't happen is if he chooses not to, and that seems quite unlikely. And if he does pass, it's gonna be JJ. He already expressed a bit of regret in not doing VIII.

He did say that. I think it would be interesting because old rumors had him both writing and directing ep 8 and 9, then later just writing a treatment for 9 then later still having no involvement. If he gets the gig a bit of manifest destiny seems to have taken place

LEIA: I have to go, Luke and Rey. I must have hope that Kylo Ren can still be redeemed. To save the galaxy, I must find my son.

TITLE CARD: General Leia died on the way back to her son's planet

*cut to fanfare and classic Star Wars end titles*

It'll obviously go to Rian if he wants it but he strikes me as a dude who knows his limits and probably wouldn't wanna dive right into this just after completion of TLJ.

Either way this is getting delayed. Wouldn't be surprised if cracking how they are gonna handle Leia is also a task no one wants to see through.

I apologize. I went too far.

Listening to Peter Sciretta talk about certain details on Trevorrow's departure on a podcast he did today.

http://www.slashfilm.com/colin-trevorrow-leaving-star-wars-episode-9/

Apparently Trevorrow wanted to leave IX after his writing partner Derek Connelly was fired and replaced by Thorne, but Lucasfilm talked him into staying to see if the Thorne draft would pan out. It didn't and now he's out.

So I'm betting if/when Rian gets the gig, he'll be rewriting IX himself.

All the Dennis love in here is weird as shit lmao. Dude is amazing but pulling for him is like screaming for a Nolan Star Wars, they don't make that kind of shit and it wouldn't match the material. If you wanna see him do sci fi go watch Blade Runner.

I've liked everything Rian Johnson has done. I've liked everything this rebooted LFL has done.

And yet I'm strangely nervous about TLJ. It makes no sense to me.

Maybe I need to do back into the fandom. I've ignored it since TFA.

Glanced through the thread. No Luc Besson mentioned. Rey kills Kylo and travels to the galaxies of Besson's movies to search out the Force.

I need Bruce Willis in my Star Wars, guys.
