Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

If this were anyone else, the shitshow at Lucasfilm would be worthy of meme filled ridicule.

Kathy Kennedy gets a pass though from me because she's got a track record. I would argue that her and Kevin Feige have the toughest jobs in Hollywood. They have to deliver on these billion dollar properties each and every time. They can't have a mis-fire because the barbarians at the gates are ready with their pitchforks to bury them.

No doubt. Imagine if it was WB firing/replacing directors or consistently trying to keep them under their thumbs. I think Waititi definitely has the right idea when it comes to working for Lucasfilm. :P

For some reason, I feel like the inevitable choice is going to be Ava Duvernay - which is not a bad one by any means.

Apparently she has been hanging around lucasfilm as they finish work on Wrinkle in Time.

I know she and Marvel butted heads, but I am curious on if she would want to work with KK.

Fuck it, Give the movie to her (if Johnson says no), push the move back to December of 2019.

I don't see why Abrams would need help there, even less from someone that has never directed an action sequence.

Apparently he screened it for her, and it was her idea for the light sabers to be reflecting in Rey's eyes before she "powered up" - for lack of a better term.

As much as I would love to see the batshit crazy stuff he'd do with the idea of the Force, his interviews about Lucas wanting him for ROTJ shows this isn't his thing. God I've love it though.

The lightsaber duels would be badass though. Everything else might be shit but goddamn would the duels be cool.

That was David Lynch though.

James Mangold a possibility? His next movie is called The Force (2019) lol

Imagine a Mel Gibson Star Wars film. Or a George Miller Star Wars Film! R Rated of course....in the future.

Here'd be my top 5 director choices for Episode 9 with Trevorrow out.

1) JJ Abrams
2) Steven Spielberg
3) Rian Johnson*
4) Justin Lin
5) Patty Jenkins

*Johnson's spot on the list will vary depending on how good The Last Jedi ends up being - and Lucasfilms will know that before we know. So if Johnson picks up Episode 9, I think that's a good sign.

Honestly, I wouldn't be 100% against
George Lucas
getting Episode 9 if Lucas had a ton of creative overhead that prevented his shit ideas from getting into the mix.

Well, whoever it is, the number one priority for them will be to have Rey make a double bladed lightsaber made out of her staff.

that might be the worst list ever outside of Johnson.

Spielberg is cool but not for SW.

A guy who made a good Star Wars movie
One of the best blockbuster directors ever
The guy making Episode 8
Director who made one of the better Star Trek movies
Female director who made one of the best female lead action movies

I'm not seeing what's terrible here

I dunno why you're all arguing who the next director is because the director is me

Prepare for my magnum opus:

Star Wars: Episode IX: Boba Tea

A guy who made a good Star Wars movie
One of the best blockbuster directors ever
The guy making Episode 8
Director who made one of the better Star Trek movies
Female director who made one of the best female lead action movies

Wait wait I can play this game oto

you're putting your faith in the director who made Looper

If you gave Spielberg a good Star Wars script he would absolutely produce a good Star Wars movie. Punch it.

The first few pages of this thread are weird. People talking about Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilms/Disney as some sort of tyrants who hate creativity when, from the sounds of it, the directors thus far have had a lot of freedom.

Happy to hear this, though. He always seemed like a strange choice. If TLJ is great, they should just get Johnson to finish it off. Someone also mentioned Alfonso Cuaron earlier in the thread, and that would be really interesting I think, though I doubt it would happen.

Yeah, people frequently talk about how valuable that Marvel Studios logo is to a film (and it is), and Kathy's in that camp for me as well. If she's on board with something, then I'm going in with a very open mind about it.

He also seems like a swell dude in general, going by his Twitter and being genuinely awesome at Celebration

EDIT: Time for another hot take suggestion: George Miller. Great with female characters, action, visuals, family movies, dark stories

I'd save Miller for a spinoff that could make use of his great action. Get me a good war story (Rogue One but less espionage and more Dunkirk) and he could write the hell out of that.

The sweet freedom of agreeing with KK or else.

No lies other than Spielberg being too good for it. Spielberg hasn't made a good blockbuster type film in over a decade.

Tintin was better than any star wars movie since empire (that's not a knock on stuff like force awakens and Jedi, just think tintin is such a well made and breezy adventure movie). Spielberg in adventure blockbuster mode is perfect for this franchise. The problem is that he never wanted to do it. And with Lucas far removed from the franchise it prolly gives him even less reason to ever want to.

Also Edgar Wright would be amazing for it but I imagine both lucasfilm and wright would not work out.
