by one of the best i mean top 100 or so, which is pretty damn good considering how many excellent movies come out in a decade.

i never called him legendary but he has immense potential.

Then why look at SW? This series has more bad to mediocre movies than great ones. (Empire is the only one i'd call straight up "great", tbh).

i agree but i still enjoy it because i liked it as a kid and ever since they announced Rian Johnson i got really excited and hope he delivers and someone equally great can finish it.

I also love SW, but you know, better keep the expectations in check, 'cause the track record is what it is.

If Indy 4 and Tintin are any indication, I don't think I really want to see a Spielberg Star Wars. Not that he would want to do anyway at this stage in his career, especially with Lucas off the franchise.

that's what i had in mind as well. i don't want blockbusters of him anymore.

Rian Johnson and Ozymandias, one of the best hours of TV I've ever watched was directed by him.

That, Brick and Looper.

He should have done the whole trilogy.

David Lynch. Full creative control. I'm ready.

Actually though it would be nice to see Spielberg deliver a SW film.

I'd be very interested in a Badalamenti take on Star Wars motifs. Laura Dern is already in it so just need to find roles for Kyle MacLachlan, Robert Forster and Everett McGill, plus CGI versions of Jack Nance and Catherine Coulson.

Wow, completely missed this yesterday somehow. I, overall, actually liked Jurassic World in spite of its numerous issues, yet I see this as for the best. I had no reason to believe that he was suited to directing a mainline Star Wars film, let alone the conclusion to a new trilogy.

Id call Looper one of the best sci fi movies in the last decade.
I dig it. And for anyone wondering whether he could craft an interesting Star Wars narrative or whether his sensibilities would even translate, just re-imagine Looper as a Star Wars prequel.

The imagined future of Looper is very Star Warsy, which a level of lived-in grime and people with low level TK powers. Now imagine if instead of being sci-fi executioners Loopers were Jedi, and that instead of seeking the one who would rock his future, Young Joe (JGL) was Obi-Wan looking for a disturbance in the force and Old Joe (Willis) was an elder Jedi, bounty-hunter, or Maul-like character looking to squash it or take control of it. Then, just play out the movie from there. Obi-Wan would find this kid who is uncommonly strong in the force who just wants his mommy, his mom is just trying to protect him from others and himself. Bada-bing bada-boom.

My expectation for TLJ is Rian Johnson tapping into his 10 year old self and having a blast making a Star Wars movie. Him doing a bunch of really good R-rated dramas don't mean anything to me.

Also the movie has a capped ceiling for how good it can be because Kylo Ren is in it and he's trash.

Jesus...

Kylo is probably my favorite blockbuster villain since Heath's Joker...

Kylo Ren in TFA was a more interesting character than Vader in ANH
