Reading more..Dallas Clark? Drew Brees? Ron Dayne? Come on, trophies should be named after, AHEM, legends and not guys 5 and 10 years removed.

For fuck's sake Big 10, you already had a billion and a half rivalry trophies, now your adding this shit?

Drew Brees is on a trophy as well. Is the George trophy for Eddie or Jeff? Please be Jeff!

What do you have against history and tradition?

Next year they'll add Most Improved Legends and Most Effort Leaders.

Yeah, the secondary logo should be the only logo.

400px-BigTenUSAMap-2011a.png

Divisions should have just been yin northwest, and yang southeast - simple and self explanatory. Leaders and Legends tells you nothing.

I'd say it's at least better than the Big 12 logo, which has a giant "XII" on it even though the conference is very strict about the conference being called the "Big 12" and not the "Big XII" or the "Big Twelve."

How much was the outside firm paid to think up all these division names and trophies?

"We want to name our divisions something fresh, but with a reminder of our proud history. They should be bold, but still accessible to the common man."

When Tressel is finally caught and Ohio State gets the death penalty, will they remove them from the "Leaders" division?

They needed another name for MSU, they dont have tons of legendary players.
But did you read his Wiki? Bill Parcells "absolutely loves" him.

That's enough to put him on the trophy right there. The stuff of legends.

Or is it the stuff of leaders? I can't remember which.

I wonder what unintended consequences will arise from the division split? When they split the SEC, I remember reading (years later) that it was assumed that Georgia/Tennessee would always challenge Auburn/Alabama for the Championship, which is why they were in different divisions. Florida was lumped in with South Carolina and Kentucky as also-rans, despite the fact we had already won one (legitimate) SEC title.

I think the Big 12 split was pretty much what people expected, mostly Nebraska, OU, and Texas. When they split the ACC (and placed the championship game), it was assumed that FSU and Miami would be in the game every year.

Looking at the B1G, I still see OSU/Michigan championship games each year with the occasional MSU or Wisconsin interloper.

I see the headlines already, OSU leads Leaders, OSU leader leaders upsets legends leader.
:lol Fuuuuuuuck.

Alternatively: Legends legends tell legend of legendary Legends wins over Leaders legends.

Actually, no. They expected the North to dominate with Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas State to always be in the National Championship hunt, with Texas A&M typically winning the south.

You are forgetting how crappy Texas and Oklahoma were in the 90s.

For new page.

"The Legends, not too hard in that we have 215 College Football Hall of Fame members, we have 15 Heisman Trophy winners," commissioner Jim Delany said in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press. "We thought it made perfect sense to recognize the iconic and the legendary through the naming of the division in that regard. ... We've had plenty of leaders in the conference, that's for sure, but the emphasis here is to recognize the mission of using intercollegiate athletics and higher education to build future leaders."

Wait.... This isn't a joke?? This is amateur bullshit.

Yeah, it's like he hasn't been watching the last few seasons of Wolverine football. Right now I don't see anything that would make me want to make those kind of predictions. OSU, MSU, Wisconsin, Michigan (won't stay down forever), Nebraska... basically all of the Big 1Ten2 are passable. I could see any of them contend for the title (the Big 1Ten2 title to be clear) any given year with the sole exclusion of Purdue. Even Northwestern has been showing up lately.

You're right, I did mean to write TAMU and I screwed up on Oklahoma. Texas is on my mind now, obviously. I forgot Stoops only got to Oklahoma in 1998. I didn't think KSU was considered alongside Colorado/Nebraska though.

Malzahn apparently staying at Auburn. Wow!

Not really that much of a surprise, it's a career killer. Like Duke. You can win a big game every so often, but you're not going to compete for a SEC East title more than once or twice.

Guy was a HS coach 5 years ago and just turned down $3 million. That's a shocker.

I didn't forget about them. I said the entirety of the Big Ten was mediocre enough to vie for the title each year, save Purdue. That includes Penn and Iowa. I just didn't list them.
