Cross-Platform Smash Bros. coming to 3DS/WiiU, [Has Not Started Development]

My most wanted playable character?

TingleAssist.jpg

Pichu, Pikachu & Raichu as one character would be awesome, but there's really no point since they are too similar. I just want Raichu, somehow. :(

3rd parties- Would rather Nintendo not go overboard on these. There has to be some characters left for future titles.
Rayman- Rabbids as an assist trophy. Considering Ubisofts good relationship with Nintendo recently.
Megaman- Capcom and Nintendo have had a good relationship I believe and he's a classic character.
Takamaru- Interesting suggestion and there is some credibility. Also fits nicely with WTF reaction like Snake was.

Takamaru is first party character.

As far as first party characters go, I agree that there should be no more than 5, and I'll assume that Sonic and Snake are returning for now (even if I'm not entirely convinced that Snake will be back). Mega Man and Simon Belmont would be the two most obvious choices, but there's been a lot of issues pinning Simon's design down in the past. Ryu would be an excellent choice as a representative of the SNES era, considering his role as the flagship character in the flagship fighting game series, and considering Street Fighter 2's role in securing Nintendo's place over Sega in the console wars. Finally, I think that a modern representative should fill out the roster, and Travis Touchdown would be perfect.

It's funny how so many here are worried they won't be able to use the Gamecube controller.

I already moved on to playing Wiimote sideways. Might as well use the D-Pad if you have to hit the stick twice to run. It's also much more responsive.

I'd like a Red with 3 starters from different gens (for example Squirtle/Bayleef/Blaziken) and then a female trainer, White maybe, with 3 others (for example Totodile/Turtwig evo/Emboar).

Just to mix it up a little. But even if they go same-gen for each trainer, I'd still really like to have one male and one female, at the very least.
Female Pokemon Trainer with the second-gen starters would be awesome.

Just make one Pokemon trainer where you get to pick from some combination of starters from multiple generations.

Just enforce it so you have to take one from each evolutional stage so that you end up with a small fast stage one, a middle stage two, and a big slower stage three.

She was planned to be teamed up with Diddy in Brawl at one point, wasn't she? Unless they go back to that idea I sadly don't really see her happening at this point, though I guess Smash does need more girls.

I can't tell if you're joking but I would absolutely love for Tingle to be playable, if only for the reactions I'm sure half the internet would have. He's the last remaining Zelda character who's had several incarnations now throughout the series instead of being a one-off (Sheik), not to mention having his own spin-off series. Plus if I'm remembering right they tried implementing Balloon Fighter in Melee just to find he was way too bland; they could try working those ideas again into Tingle, while working in all his other insanity.

Going off Sakurai's (probably off, but who cares) mention of 'about 50 characters' in that one translated interview, I'm gonna drum up a semi-realistic wishlist of 15 characters I'd want to see in the game:

Ridley (Metroid)
Samurai Goroh (F-Zero)
Little Mac (Punch Out!)
Isaac (Golden Sun)
Saki (Sin and Punishment)
Tom Nook (Animal Crossing)
K. Rool/Cranky Kong (Donkey Kong) * Really like K. Rool, but we already have 3 different 'heavy tyrant king' type characters, so I'd happily go with introducing one of my favorite Nintendo characters and having Smash's first elderly, 4th wall-breaking and modern videogame industry bashing fighter
Midna (Legend of Zelda)
Geno (Mario)
Mona (Wario)
Jill Dozer (Drill Dozer)
Lip (Panel de Pon)
Agents/ Ouendan (Elite Beat Agents/ Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan)
Mega Man (Mega Man)

Left over characters who would still be neat:
A new Fire Emblem lord (haven't played a single FE game, but always find FE reps fun to play as so)
Tingle (lol)
Mach Rider (to me the NES-era character not in Smash yet who'd have the most to lend to a unique, motorbike-with-machineguns-focused moveset)
An Advance Wars rep (seems to be a long time coming, yet with the sudden change in tone that one DS game had and how it's been awhile since the last release, not sure how likely one would be now)
Simon Belmont (if they had more than one 3rd party character per company, I doubt it'd be anybody else but Simon for Konami)

Characters I'd love to see in this game but know literally have no chance:
Banjo and Kazooie
Conker
Joanna Dark
James Bond (My 8 year old self reasoned Goldeneye on the N64 justified this)

Characters I'd hate to see but are probably very likely:
Bowser Jr. (though if he had costumes for each Koopaling I'd probably be alright)
Toad (He actually probably isn't, but I keep seeing people bring him up so)
Waluigi

Smash and anything related to Smash has a horrible, numbing grasp on its followers. :[

Why not just his old moveset made more powerful? I had a lot of fun playing him in Melee and was shocked to find several years later he was supposed to be one of the shittiest characters in the game. It's not like Lucario besides sharing his B move is really all that like him.

Keep in mind I haven't touched anything Pokemon since Gold and Silver, so I have no idea if your idea for a different moveset is based on something they changed about him in recent games or not.

Smash does need more girls. Especially a proper Daisy.

Nah.

Is this thread just going to be a wishlist of characters for the next year?

Althought to be honest, there is nothing else to talk about these 2 games.

Would be cool, but sounds a bit impractical. Pokémon Trainer-wise, I'm rooting for May/Brendan with Grovyle, Blaziken and Mudkip, especially if R/S remakes are announced soon.

Zoroark looks likely, though I hope they don't remove Lucario - I found him really fun to play as.
Skyward Sword Link replacing Twilight Princess Link is a given; same for Zelda. Toon Link will probably stay.
I'm probably in the minority that want Miis; with more Mii integration in games like Mario Kart Wii and NSMBMii, it's looking quite likely. I have no idea what type of attacks they'd have, though (maybe something from Wii Sports/Resort; I'd love some StreetPass Quest magic though). I can see Mii fights being pretty amusing.
I can't really think of much else for 1st party at the moment :(

3rd party-wise, I expect more Sega characters (some of Sonic's shitty friends, for instance).

Screw it, this was all leading up to a wishlist anyway, so let's get it over with.
Bomberman (various types of bombs)
Megaman (a faster Samus/Lucario-type character with a charge shot?)
Banjo-Kazooie (yeah, right)
Neku (The World Ends With You on DS; uses various 'pin psychs' to fight)
Maxwell (Scribblenauts; summons random objects of various types)
Crono (Chrono Trigger; sword-wielder with ranged magical attacks)
Maybe a FF/DQ character (not slime; how would it fight?)

With the huge 3rd party support Nintendo is getting for WiiU, I hope the new Smash Bros really embraces the 3rd party cameos even more. I mean, the Nintendo catalogue of characters are running dry for Smash (okay you can pull out super obscure ones, but they probably wouldn't be as interesting).

Plus I hope for another Metal Gear character. X]

lol every time I've used that as the control scheme has been a horrible experience. Also the B button placement in that position leaves a lot to be desired.

I guess I'd buy a CC Pro if Gamecube is not supported. Gonna have to say a tearful goodbye to the old Wavebirds.

Funny in a way because she is in fact the lead character for Donkey Kong Country 3 and by extension Donkey Kong Land 3. I'd like to believe that having a starring role in games would increase her chances but that is likely not the case.

Now if King K.Rool doesn't get in i'm going to be pretty disappointed, the moveset potential is most certainly there with all his costumed shenanigans. But if memory serves Japan has them pegged as brothers and not costume changes or something.

I feel that Little Mac and Issac are the most likely newcomers but after that it feels like a toss up this time around.

I was a fan of Smash Brothers, an even bigger fan of Melee, but Brawl derailed the series for me.

I was so heavily hyped for the game, and the gameplay just fell short, the single player was disappointing, and online was lagy trash. If the dojo is good enough, then I'll pick up the 3DS game. I don't plan on ever getting a Wii U, I already bought an Ipad 2.

Yay, my first Smash Bros post! I wasn't around GAF for the Brawl hype, sadly, although my friends and I kept up on the Dojo stuff on our own. We played nothing but Brawl for six months, didn't even touch Subspace, unlocked everything by grinding out matches.

Captain Rainbow

they need a new weird japanese nintendo character, right? i'd love LOVE Chibi Robo. or just a new Chibi Robo game

I would almost be surprised if Hayabusa or Kasumi didn't make the cut.

Stupid as I am, I'll also predict that Project Smash or whatever the team will be called will consist of Nintendo, Project Sora, Team Ninja (WiiU) and Ganbarion (3DS).

This.
/Dream mode
Each Pokemon trainer alternate color should be a different trainer with each generation starters.

Alternate colors for Peach (And Mario/Luigi) should be her different outfits throughout the games she has been in.
In before : How are you gonna do the dress attack in her Strikers outfit?
Magic! She could spin like normal but then a pink ring appears and acts as her dress while she spins.

Alternate color for Mario should be Melee's Dr. Mario, with pill attack and all.

Alternate color for Samus should be each suit she has had, and also Dark Samus ( so you don't occupy Ridely's spot :P)

Camera mode back, and with the WiiPad should be AWESOME!!!

Also the battle "achievements" should be back, it was fun to see how the game ranked your fight style :P
/dream mode off

Add Lyn.
Balance Final Smashes, Snake's Up + B should not be able to pass through Samus' Zero Beam.
Nerf the &%/#"! out of Snake. His explosions have a very very big range.

Why people want characters like Toad?
You want toad, they give you not one but TWO in NSMBW and then you complain :(
jk :P

But still Toad in Smash is as stupid as one of the "leaked lists" for Brawl that had Hammer Bros in it.

I really don't want to sound like that guy considering that no one really knows what the process is in regards to who gets in, but I don't think it's simply an issue of "too old, not trending". It'd be an absurdly limiting factor for the series if that was the metric used to determine a newcomer or even franchises that need reps.

King K. Rool and Dixie technically appeared in Mario Super Sluggers, which came out after Brawl, if you want to count those tiny appearances.

And Metroid Prime 3 didn't come out in Japan until after Brawl, so Dark Samus shouldn't technically be there either.

And even then, I wouldn't be so confident that they won't pull any of those characters in--Brawl still had quite a few really easy, obvious choices who's inclusion was more or less a matter of time (Wario, Diddy, Meta Knight, and Dedede for starters). This new one really doesn't. They're definitely going to have to be more creative with the roster choices this time around.

"I'm not directly insulting the reply two posts above me but WOW that's a stupid idea!"

Because I want Link to play like Link. Sadly the one I want them to do right, Twilight, would be most likely to be cut this time. But do you want Skyward Sword Link (almost certainly a lock) to play almost exactly like Link in every Smash before because they need to keep Link's playstyle consistent, or would you like them to have the freedom to make the characters focus on what actually makes them unique and interesting?

There's probably going to be a Skyward Link, and Toon Link, and I'd like Skyward Link to have his own SS-themed mechanics and playstyle, rather than just reskin Smash Link again. But people are going to cry if they can't play Link exactly like they played Link before, that's why I'm suggesting at least the three.

I never meant to be subtle. I have a deep hatred of clone or clone-ish characters. I understand that you want each Link to have his own unique thing, but it's unneeded and is just taking up a spot for a character in a roster that could be given to a new franchise. There are already two Links and I feel like that's enough. The bigger Link will be based on Skyward Sword and likely be the same old Link from other smash games with a few changes and re-skins. I honestly don't mind them just making the re-skin or even going so far to change the character completely. But Link players will get all pissy. A good middle ground, imo, is that the model is SS Link, but he has moves from all his console games mixed in with Skyward Sword stuff. While the other one would be the same except for all the handheld Zelda games.

As for Pokemon Trainer, they should change the pokemon a bit so that if people want other trainers then they would just be alt costumes, there is no need for them to be a whole separate character. The best thing to do is look at the evolutions and try to make sense out of them. There are more Fire/Fighting evos so a Fire type 2nd or 3rd stage would be ideal. First stage there are more the 4 legged grass types so that works. And Then there are more bipedal water types so they would be easy to change in terms of alt costumes. But I think it should be like this:

1 stage grass type, 2nd stage water type, 3rd stage fire/fighting

This way you could get Bulbasaur, Croconaw, Blaziken or Chikorita, 5th gen 2nd stage water type, Infernape. It would be easy to switch around, they'd just need movesets that would allow for it as well.

Serious Question.

Which characters would be more likely to get replace or removed?

I see Lucario getting removed, or at least I kind of hope he does. I want Mewtwo back, but they'll probably add in Zoroark because he's the new gen's ''mascot.''

I found it to be much more convenient not having to carry around the add-ons. The B button placement is fine, but it is weird since it's not where a trigger would be.

I have a feeling that some past assists trophies will become full playable characters. Little Mac got a revival with Wii Punch Out, Lyn seems like an obvious choice for more female characters and Waluigi has a chance I say.

I would fucking love it if Nintendo managed to bend space and time and by some fucking miracle they included Banjo & Kazooie. I'd love that so much. They were N64 legends. Alas, it would never happen :(

Its either this or movelists. Its Nintendo's fault for announcing a thought in Sakurai's head.

I think its time for an early internet petition.

It is the limiting factor though. Look at Brawl. Every single newcomer besides the Retro characters were featured in a game between Melee and Brawl.

When Sakurai created the roster for Brawl he consciously (and in some cases unconsciously) left out characters because he didn't think they were suited for the game. If a character was intentionally left out of Brawl and they haven't had any recent games for Sakurai to change his mind, why would he suddenly out of the blue change his mind?

Look at Wario. Sakurai didn't want to include him until the Warioware series changed his mind. This will have to be the case for every newcomer in the new Smash.

Its not like it completely limits character options, there are still plenty of possible newcomers for SSBWiiU. It just narrows possible choices down.

If that's the way Sakurai chooses characters for the roster, then it only makes me hate the unfinished game even more since this basically would confirm the inclusion of terrible characters like Micaiah or Toad. (I'm sorry to the people that want those two but I think they'd be horrible choices)

User33 said:
Micaiah was not in a game since Brawl.

Other possible Mario choices besides Toad include Paper Mario, Bowser Jr, Waluigi, Fawful or no new Mario rep at all.

Wii-U purchase secured because of this alone. 3DS will take a few more first party gems or a Mkonster Hunter game.

I'd want a Daisy alt costume for the sandbag, so I can kick the crap out of it without fear of a player getting too good with her, kicking my ass and then spamming a:

HI I'M DAISY! HI I'M DAISY! HI I'M DAISY! HI I'M DAISY! HI I'M DAISY!

Taunt after the victory.

It saddens me that seeing her or waluigi in the next smash would not be a surprise.

I'd usually oppose Toad's inclusion, but I think it could work if he were tied to the Toad Brigade from Mario Galaxy. He could have alt colors based on the various members (in addition to one classic Toad costume, with the standard one being the red Toad leader with the lantern), calling the other brigade members for some attacks and a Final Smash involving their space ships.

They all have their own personalities and such, so he wouldn't be just a generic Toad design, and, gameplay-wise, their various themes or even just Galaxy references could help with his moveset.

Toad could totally work imo. He's definitely the missing fourth pillar of the Mario cast.

But I think we'll get Waluigi since he was an assist trophy, and to complete the Wario Bros.
