Crysis 2 PS3 Will Hit Graphical Ceiling

1920x1200 w/ 4xAA is four times the resolution of a game like MGS4, its beyond the standard.

Crysis is pushing effects that no games today have matched while displaying a sand box open ended area.

Metro 2033 runs worse than Crysis considering its a corridor shooter.

I was referring to the 4xMSAA. Sure, no game has matched all the effects that Crysis pushes, but some of them are there just for the technological marvel rather than practicality. Bad Company 2 looks damn good (almost Crysis-level at certain points), its maps are comparable in size and it maintains a massively higher framerate even with AA. I think the only areas where the Frostbite 1.5 engine is lacking (in order to look as good) is in its water, foliage, and maybe it's fire effects here and there. Motion blur would also help.

He was asking about the bloke's avatar. Who in their right mind would use 'beauty' to refer to a game developer? :lol

BECAUSE GAME DEVELOPERS ARE BEAUTIFUL, TOO

Though had I taken a look at the original quoted post I probably would have seen that -_-

I'll leave it in my original post, anyway :lol

You're right!

That and the PS3 is considered to be the technologically superior console yet difficult-to-program-for console. So saying that they've maxed it out is them sort of like them flexing their developmental muscles to the media. This also infers that their game is going to end up mind-blowingly amazing in the tech department.

Some people will actually buy the game just to see if their claims are true.

@Deepack
I think Crytek does a good job in terms of art direction. Their games' outdoor vistas aren't just to mimic reality -- they actually do a great job in setting the mood and providing "atmosphere". It doesn't have to hit you over the head like "OH MAN LOOK AT ME, I'M A SETTING" in order to make for a great art. Their suit, weapons, vehicles (not including the pickups :lol), aliens, etc. are all pretty good looking. They serve their purpose in being believable within their semi-realistic context.

The environnements are breathtaking. No question. But I found the Aliens and suit to be kinda dumb. Space ship looked brilliant though. It's a bixed bag in my opinion.

Still, we already know PS3 is hard to develop for but is "technologically advanced". I'm pretty sure Crytek will not hit the graphical ceiling...

because the consoles couldn't run it properly?

oh, THAT argument again..... *sigh*....

It's something you can't deny.

The liking of the artistic aspect is something personal ofc.

With all this hype they better deliver. I will probably be impressed but will it have any direct effect on how the game plays? I played Mega Man 2 yesterday and had loads of fun. Will Crysis 2 stand the test of time having great mechanics?

Crysis 2 is supposed to be a sand box shooter. Even if they do "max out" the hardware, the game still won't look as good as some other games just because they have to render more stuff then others.

Then again, Killzone 3 will probably hit somewhere in 2011 and we'll yet again get another meaning of "PS3 maxed out".

Hey guys I live in Florida and the outdoors is pretty tropical here. So I was walking on a nature trail the other day when I realized that the art direction of real life sucks. All I could think of was how much it sucked that there weren't any vibrant colors in real life. Where are all of the bright purples and blues, not to mention a few neon red signs like Bioshock has? Real life is boring and lacks good art direction. Thumbs down.

And please don't compare the levels in Battlefield BC2 to Crysis. Don't do that. Crysis has levels that are bigger than Algonquin island in GTA4. The levels in BC2 are nowhere close to that. The only level I saw in Bad Company 2 that was of any size was that one in the desert that was mostly featureless and obscured by a dusty haze. And the art direction of the desert sucked. :lol

Totally off-topic for a second, but what film is the dude in your avatar from?

That's the best thing about having both HD consoles. You get to set back and watch the internet kills itself with raging comparisons. And after you get a good laugh, you can simply pick the better version.

Who cares? The graphics will be the best ever until the next big game comes along. The real question is, will it support Move? It's time for the Wii to not be the only console with good FPS controls.

Do you really think the Wii, or motion controls in general, are the best way to control an FPS game?

Just please don't be brown and dreary like GoW 3.

Gears of War 3 loooooooooooooooooooooooooooool gotcha PS3 suckahs!

I find it very interesting that they've only made specific comments about the PS3 version in regards to console development. I can't tell if that bodes well or not for its development. At least we know it isn't being ignored.
yeah this is strange. Shouldn't both console versions be similar? or is this time PS3 getting the best port?

If it's going to be as open world as the first Crysis, then GOW3 level graphics should be ruled out. But this is Crytek we're talking about...

Pretty please be like GoW3 techinal then I will buy day one.

Fixed camera, fixed progression (=no backtracking), pre-baked lights and no shadows?

Like this?

I am joking, of course. If they get to that level of IQ in an open environment fps I will shit my pants. :lol

Surely he means maxxing out there engin eon the system. I mean as tools get better and new things are done to get more power out of these machines games look better and better. Look at a gen 1 console game to latest releases theres a huge gap. Even uc1 to uc2 theres a decent jump.

Strange criteria for a purchase.

Nothing to do with gameplay or Art.D. I mean graphics technical like MLAA, lighting, useage of colours, smooth FPS, epic size and level movement.

I hope you were joking about the lack of dynamic lighting and shadow systems, too.

I really hope the PS3 version has some kind of map editor like Far Cry 2.
It would be so awesome. @___@

So, what will the gameplay be like? All I ever hear Crysis fans talk about is graphics, but I hear very little on the gameplay. Whats compelling about the gameplay?

Fixed. The talk of all graphics and no gameplay is from the haters who never played Crysis. Crysis has some of the best gameplay ever seen in an FPS.

This is a graphics thread, but in Crysis 1 it was all about using the environment to beat the odds. Crysis 2 has an urban setting so I don't know how that would work.

I hope for the same free approach as 1, but with added verticality.

This generation is all about verticality in open-world games. Add that to the Crysis sandbox and the possibilities are just endless.

By the way, the game releases this year right?

I want some direct feed gameplay footage.
I have no doubt that Crysis 2 will be a graphical masterpiece.

Crysis Wars and BF:BC2 run at similar framerates on my computer with 4xAA. BF:BC2 is a fucking beast with everything turned on.

For some reason Crysis Wars wasn't doing motion blur for me last night. Not sure what is up with that, but its not like BF:BC2 does it.

Both run at around 30fps most of the time.
