Days Gone E3 2017 Gameplay

Looks competent.. but seems a bit "generic" and every part of the game seems to have been done before..

TLOU-setting - check
TLOU-gameplay on foot - check
Cinematic TLOU inspired presentation - check

Also stuff from other similiar games
Dead Rising Zombiehorde - check
Gruff character - check
Ubi-type open world (?)

Frankly it is wierd this is from the same publisher as TLOU? Just doesn´t really seem to have its own identity. At least what they have shown
I wonder what the game structure is like? Is it open world with mission icons? I that case - meh. I hope the game is really open ended with story and cutscenes playing a really minor part - sadly cutscenes seems to be a big part and that makes the game less open
I don't think it's that weird at all. Especially when you have Ubisoft releasing all these open world games that blend together, which are doing well.

I still think they would have been better off setting this game in the same universe as The Last of Us.

I think it would help the game sell more and I guarantee the buzz would be bigger. So many parts look very similar to TLoU and it wouldn't be a stretch to make this a spin off in the same universe.

Personally I'm still excited for it because I generally like zombie games and I think the hordes look cool.

Day one. Game atmosphere looks top notch and the MC looks to have a bit of a personality. Would like to see crafting and customization. Anybody check out that NOS in the bike?

game looks amazing, but i am too jumpy to get chased by zombie horde.

I like more linear levels in open world titles, when dosed right. The Witcher 3 and Horizon both have these and they are great in contrast to the more typical open world gameplay/quest design.

If that is the case, they have to do what Quantic Dreams does and showcase the options.

Option
A) Kill all
B) Steath
C) Get the hoard that is 1 mile north to the camp by making noises, triggering event/ lighting a huge fire etc etc

Instead they are just going about it one way and it looks scripted even though it may not be. They really are doing a poor display of the gameplay if its so varied.

To be fair, last year the showed an alternate/extended route to the one taken at the show. Hopefully they do the same this year.

I just don't get biker clubs. The general aesthetic of it just does not appeal to me at all. Whether it's this or GTA: Lost and the Damned or Sons of Anarchy. Bikers just never had their era. It's not a particular genre I see people have much love for like westerns or pirates.

This looks like such a clone of The Last of Us. I hope it turns out good and finds it own identity. Days Gone aka The Rest of Us.

I'm not interested in this one bit but i do want Sony Bend to be successful on the ps4. Syphon Filter is what they needed to bring me thinks.

I really feel like this game is redundant
Like
It feels generic, and a last of us side story

Why is this being made?
I am still seeking this answer whenever this game gets shown

Have you ever noticed how every zombie game since Left 4 Dead has to have dumb nicknames for each of their enemy types? They almost always end in "-er" as well.

In the OP alone: Freakers, Swarmers, Hordes, Newts, Runners, Ragers, Swarms.

And bonus round for humans: Marauders, Squatters, Drifters, Raiders.

But if they set it in the same world as The Last of Us that would fundamentally change at least two of the gameplay aspects - you can have hordes of enemies in Days Gone because they go down more easily compared with the clickers in TLoU, and directly linked to that, ammo is not in incredibly short supply like it was in TLoU.

Yeah, that annoys me. I prefer to just call them notzombies if the developer is adamant they are not zombies, because they are fundamentally the same thing as zombies.

Imagine if it was a modern day, post-apocalyptic zombie game....with everyone as pirates.

Man the fatigue of these games is real

2 pages for a AAA budget sony exclusive game on Neogaf
wow

had to happen eventually

at least horizon had the good sense to apply a nice art direction to the open world template

yeah they are selling well, but they arent interesting enough to compell me to buy more hardware

what are these games doing that i cant do on my pc better?

I dont think page counts are a good judge of well anything at all.

people were falling asleep in the gb live thread

between horizon, god of war, this, uncharted, spider man... its getting really samey

devs are trying to shake it up with branded IP or different settings but this style of game is starting to wear thin

at least supermassive out there doing something new and interesting

I think Days Gone looks terribly generic. There's nothing about the game that feels unique or fresh. It's like they had a check list of "cool" things from 2012 to cram in.

Game looks visually great but gameplay wise doesn't seem to have a lot of unique draw. Surely it will be fine but I don't think it will light anything on fire.

Worried about this game. Nothing of the plot seems anything special and the draw of having a lot of zombies on screen isn't that amazing to bevthe games main selling point. Will wait on actual reviews and reception before buying this.

Calling it generic is such a lazy criticism, the same was echoed across all the Horizon: Zero Dawn showings with the same reductionist comparisons (Far Cry clone har har) and we all know how that went. For just a moment, stop looking to compare it to whats been done before and just look at it as a whole, it's providing an open world sandbox brimming with possibilities (note - they're going to be uploading another playthrough within the next couple of days taking a different route and method).

For some reason I just love everything about Days Gone. It's just right up my street.

Visually looks better than last year and the freakers being led to a camp was cool thing to see (also zombie bears fuck yeah).

With an alternate E3 demo path coming up I'm hyped to see the alternate ways we'll be tackling scenarios.

No it isn't a lazy criticism, it's just something you don't like hearing. The game looks like a carbon copy of The Last of Us and is doing nothing new. Post apocalyptic setting? Check. Zombie hoards? Check. White male protagonist? Check. Third person semi open world? Check. Cinematic storytelling? Check. I got such an extreme sense of deja vu watching the trailer because I had actually forgotten Sony showed it off last year. That's how forgettable Days Gone is.

Jaded irrelevant old man journalists were falling asleep! Oh no! It must be a bomb!

If this game can deliver on the sandbox promise streamers will have a field day with it and it will sell no problem.

Oh no GB didn't like it! Whatever shall i do oh yeah don't give a shit because GB are jaded and barely enjoy anything.

I don't mind hearing criticism at all - I just hate when comparisons are used to write off a game. It looks like The Last of Us ? Great, so it's taking a beloved game and expanding it to an open world sandbox playing field with hordes of zombies. How exactly is that criticism ? Will The Last of Us Part II be criticised if it simply expands on the first game too ? Horizon Zero Dawn was handwaved for being a Far Cry clone, is that not lazy criticism ? Were people not wrongfully dismissing the game there ?

Gameplay looks great but I feel like the demo doesn't entirely highlight what's unique about it. They need to show more of the openness of the world and the gameplay opportunities that gives.

i was talking about us posters in the gb live thread

calm down folks

I really enjoyed how the last demo was all about directly confronting and continuously shooting the hoard...and then this demo had none of that! completely different way to play, showing off variety in the gameplay. loved it.

It looks way closer to Horizon or The Witcher than TLOU. I think the horde mechanic is really getting overlooked as well. I could see how fighting a horde by setting up and leading them into traps and using AOE weapons could be just as fun and intense as fighting some of the bigger dinobots in Horizon. And the human combat in this game already looks better than Horizon's. I'm in.

Hmmm...seems to be the same type of comments that Horizon got.

"Just looks bland and generic"

"A mix-match of games I already played"

"So soulless compared to Zelda"

-__-

Just not seeing it. Looks completely different that TLOU where tools and wit seem to be super important and riding around and exploring on your bike is a big part of the game. All that assist, detective stuff can likely be taken off on harder difficulties (just like most games) and really, this was one of the better showings of the conference.

I wasn't even interesting at all before, now its becoming a sleeper must have.

My point still stands. Some of you guys are just as jaded as the GB folks.

supermassive's Hidden Agenda looked incredible, unique, compelling and really exciting

sony's brand of AAA open world cinematic third person shooter is wearing thin on me

game looks amazing, but i am too jumpy to get chased by zombie horde.

That was intense as hell. I'll just bolt when I see them. Keep the bike handy with a full tank.

Edit: Also hyped for infected animals and hidden traps throughout among the lush environment.

If I'm to nitpick one thing it's the motorbike feeling to slow, without a sense of speed,I would hope they addressed that cause right now it feels like your riding a bicycle

The potential is amazing. If it's a true open world with dyamnic AI, day/night cycle, unscripted encounters and base building, this could be epic.

Then what you're saying doesn't really make sense. Horizon really isn't cinematic. There are very few setpieces in the entire game. And something like God of War isn't a shooter at all nor is it open-world. You basically compared a bunch of games and called them samey even though none of them really play like one another.

The animations looked odd. Stiff, and repetitive. The horde is cool, but I'm wondering what the gameplay loop is like.

I'm still interested, but far from sold.

Not sure how to feel about this. The fact its biker orientated and single player only turns me off but will see how it develops. Will probably end up just being another third person action shooter with slick visuals.
