Days Gone E3 2017 Gameplay

Meh, just another zombie game to me. I really didn't see anything that makes this game standout from the crowd. The graphics looked good, and the zombie bear was cool, I guess.

people were falling asleep in the gb live thread

between horizon, god of war, this, uncharted, spider man... its getting really samey

devs are trying to shake it up with branded IP or different settings but this style of game is starting to wear thin

at least supermassive out there doing something new and interesting

None of those games are anything like each other..

What am i reading here.

Zero concerns about this game, the GAF zeitgeist has been "oh look, post apocalypse and zombies, I liked that before it was cool" and doesn't change the fact that everything shown about this game from the tone to the music to the graphics to the writing and the gameplay all looks extremely classy and solid.

Fully expect this to be a top rated game and multimillion seller and deep down you all know it to be true. This is Sony first party churning out yet another rock solid classic.

Hide in bush to disappear from enemys, check!
Does sony have this as a clause in their 1st party games? Its popping up way to much for my liking

Looked kind of by the numbers, and the Zombie theme hardly moves the needle for me. Will keep an eye out to see how it progresses, but yesterday didn't sell me.

Samey in terms of visual quality, I guess? Because anything else makes zero sense.

They're all third person.

While I think it's really reductive and very ignorant stance, there's some true to it. Sony seems to bank on single player 3rd person character-oriented games. PS4 delivers fantastic and diverse games through smaller DL-able titles and with $40-tier games, but it's AAA output has been pretty much focused on a very strict model with some rare exceptions like GT Sport or MLB series. I would very much appreciate a comeback of AAA Sony FPS, a game in the vein of Halo Wars 2 or a fighting game. This is also the reason why I'm glad this year's Sony E3 output included relatively big push for VR titles.

Definitely hoping for a good bit of freedom and sandbox potential here. Even in an early, more scripted part of the game there seemed to be several ways encounters could've gone whether the player chose to engage, sneak pass, or use the dead.

Not my most anticipated WWS joint but it looked noticeably better than last year.

God this game just looks so dull. We've seen it all before.

I mean come on, it has a setting and a story, a protagonist, antagonists, conflict, tensions, actions, outcomes and probably resolutions....

Yawn.

Wake me up when we finally get something fresh and new and interesting.

I'm not this Gaf guy, but I am not feeling GoW and SOTC remake. Spiderman is ace though.

On a 2nd watch of this trailer, I've changed my mind a bit. It's not that the game is generic, the MC is generic and kinda forgettable. It's not like Joel or Nathan with a unique voice or quick jokes. Days Gone's MC is just sort of there. Idk how to explain it. I'll keep an eye on it, Bend studios is excellent. They need to release this now and then release a Syphon Filter reboot in 2019 or 2020.

I'm obviously talking about Gaf as a whole. I.e what the general sentiments from each of the respestive threads are like. There's no need to be pendantic.

I think the protagonist is fine. But yeah, that could be a possible reason why people are finding the game to be rather generic looking. The main issue I have with the game is that they're not showcasing it well imo. The closed door sessions with the touted dynamic weather cycle and the seemingly diverse, creative ways the player can approach a situation all sound great but the things that they've decided to show on the open stage are just mostly derivative things that we've seen before. I liked what I saw this E3 but I can see how others may find it to be forgettable or unexciting.

I think people are being a little hasty to dismiss this game. Not that a lot of the criticism isn't deserved, it does have a forgettable name, it does owe a lot to TLOU, and the protag's backwards hat pisses me off too.

But the video game part actually seems to be shaping up pretty nicely. This has potential to be a great zombie survival sandbox game. While it is derivative in some aspects, they really are bringing some new stuff to the table and and it looks like it's going to be quite polished as well.

I think this could turn out to be a game that surprises a lot of people. Personally I'm not about to run out and pre-order it but I'll be keeping an eye on it to see what else they have to offer.

This was the most pleasant surprise at Sony's conference. I am a big fan of stealth games, and this seems to be a mix of the Arkham games, last of us, and even MGSV (for the sandbox elements). I even got some Horizon vibes with him hiding in the grass.

Also, it's great that they also have infected animals. I really hope the sandbox elements are as good as they're described in the press release. This game is definitely on my radar now.

I'm hoping that the enemies actually scrutinize the area when searching for Deacon. For instance, hopefully they'll search the brush because they understand that if someone is trying to avoid being found, they'll likely find cover to conceal themselves. Or if they find a body, depending on the weather conditions they'll look for tracks and retrace them to their source. I'd be nice if Deacon can also drag bodies away from plain sight and hide them to keep his presence unknown.

This showing was completely different than last years in terms of the gameplay. I'm in. Now for a release date.

Actually this showing gets me less optimistic. I was hoping they would show something to really distinguish the game this year but it just looks like an amalgamation of tropes. Also QTEs weren't a good look.

They look same = they all are 3rd person action games with realistic graphics.

And none of them is pushing any gameplay innovations. They probably play good but with no new ideas. But hopefully I'm wrong.

It's the same in almost every thread. God of War, Spider-Man and Days Gone all looked generic according to some.

I don't see it.

I mean it's not probably same people but it's kinda funny that in Ubi thread you had tons of people complaining how everything is multiplayer and here we have Sony demoing bunch of different AAA single player games and the reaction is ''these look samey''. When nothing is enough.

I know, right?! I started playing God of War III Remastered yesterday, and for a moment I got confused and started bouncing on the sofa with excitement because I thought I was playing Insomniac's Spider-Man! Can you imagine my disappointment when I realised it was only GoWIII and I'd just got them mixed up because they are so similar?

What the fuck are you talking about?

So looking at the trailer the gameplay is almost like this:

Other than Horizon and Uncharted 4, can you tell me what other games it has featured in? I don't remember it in The Last of Us or Bloodborne or Ratchet or Gravity Rush 2 or The Last Guardian or Nioh or Infamous: Second Son or Knack, or any other third-person Sony games this gen I can think of.

They're all third person.

Yeah, they are perhaps a little too comfortable doing the third-person cinematic action game, but they've had a lot of success with that so I can see why they do it. I would certainly welcome a bit more diversity from them, like a high-quality karting game, a first-person shooter, a third person platformer, etc.

I mean it's not probably same people but it's kinda funny that in Ubi thread you had tons of people complaining how everything is multiplayer and here we have Sony demoing bunch of different AAA single player games and the reaction is ''these look samey''. When nothing is enough.

We should get them to swap threads!

No, it's a proper open world and that section from the conference was obviously a scripted linear mission. Like these conference demos always are.

My problem with this game is that, my GOD, get a new concept. There is so much untapped fantasy creatures that's zombies are SOOOO played out! At this point, it's so damn annoying I just can't. I might still play this game but I don't know. It's a damn shame the Order didn't end up being good because Werewolves, Ghosts, Ghouls, Vampires, etc are all other great things that are still just waiting to be used...ugh

Trailer screamed walking simulator to me. Only thing the character did of note was throw a rock. Yawn.

:) ...

if there's anything 'samey' i'm seeing, it's the use of realistic, as opposed to stylized, graphics. i, personally, have no problem with the former, but, yeah, i would like to see more use of the latter (persona 5) than we see anymore in major (non-nintendo) titles...

I still think they would have been better off setting this game in the same universe as The Last of Us.

I think it would help the game sell more and I guarantee the buzz would be bigger. So many parts look very similar to TLoU and it wouldn't be a stretch to make this a spin off in the same universe.

Personally I'm still excited for it because I generally like zombie games and I think the hordes look cool.

That would fundamentally change the game though.

They should do an Alien invasion post apocalyptic world of sorts. Kinda like ID4, War of the Worlds, or that movie with Ne-Yo. I honestly haven't seen that setting done well in a videogame.

Is this sarcasm? No snark, serious question.

Nope. There was barely any interaction in the trailer. Most of the action came in a cutscene (the standoff). Main character choked out two dudes and threw a rock to distract somebody. Game is all flash no gameplay.

There's been an odd glut of games recently with hiding in the bushes "gameplay".

Is this satire? It really looks like it but I can't be sure

Seeing the reactions outside of GAF, and people really seem to like it.

Its good that there are people very excited for this. I can see the appeal of an open world zombie game with a story, crafting, and stealth, along with the interactive sandbox elements that seem fun.

As an artist who has put countless hours into polishing this open world,I can say this is 100%false.
It looks great, before last night I was unsure about the game but the demo sold me. I'm sure many people feel that way too. Are you guys going to put out a longer demonstration during e3?

It didn't even have a release date so there can be more to show and the "amalgamation of tropes" is good for me. I love where they are getting their material from. I loved TLOU, watched SOA, Sam Witwer was a great pick for a protag. I liked both showings. I can see where it wouldn't be somebody's cup of tea, but it hits the spot for me.

Looks like a by the numbers open world game, only thing missing was obnoxious waypoints and tags, which I'm sure will be there. Soon as I saw detective mode I sighed, oh and then add in zombies.

Visually looks nice, and did look to play decent so I'll give it a shot I'm sure.

And when you play it you can run in guns blazing. They wanted to present how you could interact with the world outside the run and gun approach since that is quite the obvious way.
