Destiny and Microsoft = Destinyfragrance .. LOL

Fun fact: Microsoft started this exclusive marketing BS. Being underhanded is their game.

Either the practice itself is wrong and we don't like it on any console or we're fanboys enjoying stupid jabs being done by corporations at our expense.

It works , i thought Destiny is a PS exclusive.

Still not buying the game

People on GAF think that Destiny is an exclusive? Never thought marketing was that effective.

And yeah, lots of sites will puck this up. They don't want to miss out on the clicks. You've got to love the Internet economy.

Looool excellent

Wow, there is a Destiny and MCC bundle. How much does the console cost over there without any games?

£349 I think, I'll need to check.

So Microsoft can't advertise that Destiny is on their platforms because of Sony? That's ridiculous.

Nah, they advertise the game on Xbox website and on the Xbox Live dashboard. This is the first time I've seen them advertise outside of those two places though.

This is clever - really reminds me of back in the day when they used to poke each other with ads. Especially clever since Destiny does sound like the name for some kind of fragrance.

To think that MS struck first with something like this when they're the ones most known for the timed/full exclusive stuff over Sony the last two generations.

Funny how it's rubbing some peeps the wrong way here though.

I think this is pretty clever.
Also, the hidden meaning - implying that the Destiny exclusive advertising deal stinks.

Yeah cause MS have *Never* done exclusive advertising on any game themselves... [cough]COD[cough].

The thing is if this is MS, then let's be fair they have been doing the same as MS... splashing cash around to market certain products. Just because Sony pulled off a blinder on probably the biggest game of the year, they seem a little salty :)

Sony must be really kicking their butts on Destiny orders/consoles if they have to resort to this tactic (if it is indeed them).

Ha ha! Xbox is salty. The perfume is probably their tears, ha ha.

While I think is cool to bring attention to these "Annoying practices", Microsoft...OF ALL PEOPLE, doing it? Come on. They seem mightily fine with their COD/Fifa deals, only when its not in their favour are they opposed huh?

Even if I really like Nike I'm not allowed to create and run my own Nike adverts without their permission. It's the same thing here. MS aren't using any logos, marketing material/pictures of the game, or any other copyrighted material they don't own so they don't need permission (but can be seen as being in bad taste).

Ehh... I don't get it. They're not allowed to advertise the game, so they made a website advertising the game? I mean, I know it's not a real fragrance, but you get real marketing campaigns that are more obscure than this.
It’s probably a legal loophole. Shops and companies can promote that the product is coming to a console through brochures and online shops, how they do it is up to them. It doesn’t interfere with the co-marketing deal because that is on a global scale, that means the Playstation name will be features prominently in all types of ads. Pre-order stuff is small scale stuff that every company can chose how they handle it.

I don't know what to make of this. It doesn't really make any sense as a concept, and it has MS admitting they lost out. Odd.

Once again, this proves Microsoft's not in it for the Gamers. They're doubling down on their TV TV TV mainstream approach. Mark my words, this is a precursor for Kinect's successor...The Smell-o-vision.
J/k: Don't shoot me.

And? That doesn't prevent them from doing marketing. And this is an example of great marketing, bold and cheeky. Credit where credit's due.

That doesn't prevent who from marketing what? Sony marketing Call of Duty? Yeah, it does.

If anything, Microsoft's Call of Duty deal is even more restricting, Infinity Ward weren't even allowed to mention the featureset of the PS3/PS4 versions last year:

Not true actually. EA and Sony did a lot of marketing together during the PS2 gen -- guess it didn't seem like it to some due to a huge majority of people having a PS2 during the time anyway.

Anyway, why are you (and others) so upset about this?

It's like you guys are saying "Drat it!!! They found a way to still advertise the game!!! How dare they!! "

This is really funny but man their Destiny XBO pre-order numbers must be terrible.

Smell of desperation? Please. Hands-down genius advertising. Hope they run it on TV.

It's pretty funny but it does seem a bit desperate. Sony and Ninty have never had to do something like this before.

Oh a newer winner here!

What really makes it funny is this they sent out over a month ago

This all seems like MS whining about the consequences of Sony's deal

There have been many opportunities before, but this is the first time they've done something like this. I'd say that not being able to advertise the new game by a team that they owned for seven years, and who practically defined Xbox probably rubs them the wrong way.

Very funny, but I think the salty responses by people offended by this bc of Microsofts other exclusive deals is even better.

Did they actually have exclusive marketing deals like MS has had for Call of Duty and Madden for nearly a decade? In that case, I stand corrected.

Last I checked, all versions of Destiny have been doing pretty well on Amazon.

It's pretty funny but it does seem a bit desperate. Sony and Ninty have never had to do something like this before.

Maybe because they simply didn't think of doing it?
