What really makes it funny is this they sent out over a month ago

This all seems like MS whining about the consequences of Sony's deal

You do realize how campaigns work right?

No one is "whining", Sony is advertising destiny. So microsoft is going to counter a bit with a bunch of stuff.

Thats business, everyone does it

MS can't market Destiny (the game) for Xbox so they found some legal loopholes (This ad and US free game deal) and they're indirectly advertising the game. It's creative move but isn't that a little shady?

Dont think they care. The September NPD numbers could be in the realm of 500K to 150K or something like that. They have to try and slow the avalanche as much as possible.

So they are using the big Sony exclusive. I mean Sony marketing exclusive deal to try and get word out that it is on their system too!

But, this is not much of a marketing dent compared to commercials ran during the opening day of the NFL where at the end is says, " The Ultimate Destiny experience is ONLY on Playstation ". Over 20 million people saw that advertisement.

Man, I think some people in this thread would have gone insane during the '90s based on some of these reactions.

The ads/ploys back then were far more "desperate".

They must think they have a legal loophole, but this is straight-up an advertisement for Destiny on Xbox.

Are they really not allowed to advertise? They had Destiny displayed at the Gamescom conference and on the Dashboard. They're selling digital preloads.

I just don't get it.

Funny ad up to the point where they say "Thanks for smelling that something was up."

That seemed to push it from being satire to sounding desperate/whinny since that would directly imply that their own purchasing of exclusives and marketing rights smell as well.

Yeah I think thats what ruined it for me really. If they just left that out, I'd probably see it in a better light, them "fighting the system", ha ha.
With them saying that, it just changed the message into "Sony is doing something bad", which as you say, MS has done themselves plenty of times.

Maybe, but I don't really have a problem with them using loopholes, its what they're there for, ha ha, and if I was an Xbox exec, of course I'd want people to know Destiny (perhaps the biggest game this year) is coming to Xbox, but it seems they're restricted with what and how they can promote it.

I just cringe at the hypocrisy of them saying "Exclusive promotion/content is bad!"
When did they say that?

You're the same dude who says don't judge sales by amazon in the console threads.

I never said that. I simply said they aren't the "end all be all".

I have also said that they are usually accurate when it comes to rank.

I really can't believe that this (well at least in my opinion) funny loophole is making some of you guys so testy.

I've heard that fragrance has very high sodium content.

Some of you people seem so eager to shit on Microsoft at any opportunity its hilarious. Sony bought exclusive advertising rights to Destiny and Microsoft thought of a clever way to let people know its also on Xbox. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and it doesn't reek of desperation in any way. Some people need to take a break from the internet for a while and realize how silly you sound when you post stuff like this.

My favorite part about this is it actually making people mad.
See above.

When did they say that?

They imply it.

"we didnt have permission to run adverts for this game"
"Thanks for smelling something was up"

Thats them implying they're not happy about it, but they still do the exact same thing. They just didnt happen to be able to do it for Destiny this time.

Yesterday I was applauding Microsoft for their ballsy free game promotion during Destiny launch week. Now, I'm shaking my head at how pathetic and desperate they look.

Jesus Christ, have some self respect guys.

The smell of desperation? (joke probably been made before :P)

really, really funny add though. Kuddo's MS.

Heh. That's pretty funny. I guess it's safe to assume that Activision allowed them to do this? I don't think that MS wants to risk ruining their Call of Duty deal.

I got a chuckle out of the salty responses in this thread as well. Lighten up people. :)

Damn, people like you take this stuff way too seriously.

It's brilliant marketing, end of story.

I don't know if you're used to Sony being lay-downs when the competition gets fierce, or their shitty marketing, but Microsoft isn't the type of company to just take their ball and go home. They think nothing of writing multi million dollar checks to stick it to their competition.

MS shall not be cleansed of sodium until the execs in charge of the XBONER march naked to the home of each and every gamer to personally apologize, self-flagellating all the while.

Calling this desperate is like calling someone a loser for taking 2 seconds to google some kind of fact to present in an argument.

Amazing.

Good grief.

Since the reveal i've got the feeling Destiny is build around marketing first and foremost, and this PR stunt, even if funny, shows exactly what the problem is with this game.
COD , Destiny and Fifa are fashionable products, can get old and if you don't own the latest one, you stink !

Have a sense of humor? I don't get how you could possibly think this is pathetic. It's awesome.

I sort of like it, I want Sony to do the same and hopefully reduce the value and money spent on this stuff.

Stop giving the big companies money for old rope, people know the platforms the games are on anyway.

I'd be amazed if MS didn't have a first right of refusal to this type of thing when Bungie split from MS.

Why would they? Bungie left Microsoft because it wanted to go multiplatform. It would entirely defeat the purpose if Microsoft remained in control and was able to say "Nah, we'll take this".
