It's Sunday, believe it or not the world doesn't revolve around NeoGAF.
What have they been working on for four years with 500 people?... How much of this game was cut? Jesus.
Well I played a hunter and titan, leveled them both to 8, did multiple strike runs to gear them up, played PvP, played missions multiple times with different friend groups.
Probably boils down to a matter of gaming habit. I'm the guy who lost months of his life to WoW, creating new characters, leveling and running the same missions over and over for the fun of getting new gear and experiencing things with friends.
Not everybody has fun replaying content I guess. For me, though, this game is going to be a huge time sink. I'm hooked.
Only complaint was the mission structures were redundant. But I'm excited to see where Bungie takes this trilogy. This is just the first glimpse at where Bungie is taking us.
That is what Destiny really is, Explore the frontier, absorb the environment your in and be a Legenadry badass while doing it
In the grand scheme of things, this one stupid thread on a message board isn't going to determine if Destiny is a success or not.
At all.
Like not even close. GAF probably makes up less than one percent of all sales on games.
i wonder if the game's a huge success Activision will buy Bungie somewhere down the line, even though im sure Bungie would prefer to stay independant at the moment

I think you understimate the power of internet, forums and social media these days.
But it needs as much content as [ insert MMO here ]!
No it doesnt. This isnt an MMO. This is a FPSRPG with some MO ( notice the missing M? ) elements and should be treated as such. Expect Borderlands-level amounts of content for the initial release ( which they seem to already be passing ), not MMO-levels.

The infamous downgradeaton of Watch_Dogs didn't stop selling millions of copies. So the power of social media don't mean shit.
But how many more millions could it have sold? It prevented me from buying. I don't think I was the only one.

Sorry to ignore your overall point but I don't see them passing Borderlands in terms of content. Borderlands first areas seem to have more content than Destiny's first. This is especially true if there are only 22 story missions of the length we've seen on the moon and earth, not to mention the sidequests are a joke. Have you actually played a borderlands game to completion with the sidequests?
Don't get me wrong, I have a preorder and will be keeping it, mostly because there's not much coming with this kind of multiplayer in the near future, but yeah, not seeing this point of it having more content than borderlands.
Came into this thread expecting to see GAF defending Destiny with all their might. Was pleasantly surprised to see most posts are sensibly calling this disappointing.
Didn't Bungie already said that the actual game doesn't cost 500M$?
Mainstream consumers decide if a gaming product is successful or not. Not GAF

And you are greatly overestimating its power when it comes to surefire multi-million sellers.I think you understimate the power of internet, forums and social media these days.

Whats the difference between a Strike and a Raid?
Whats the difference between a Strike and a Raid?
Sshhh, no facts. Only arbitrary expectations.
Responding to a question from a fan, Bungies Eric Osborne repeated the developers Chief Operating Officer Pete Parsons explanation: For marketing you'd have to ask Activision people, but for development costs, not anything close to $500 million, Parsons told GameIndustry International in an interview. I think that speaks a lot more to the long-term investment that we're making in the future of the product.
Whats the difference between a Strike and a Raid?
Oh, I thought there were five planets.
I don't think it is unreasonable to expect some people at Bungie are working on the last day of public beta.
I've said IP, not game. Destiny IP has 500M$ invested, or it will be.

Strikes are 3 people and takes about 20 minutes to finish. Raid is 6 people and it supposedly much more challenging and takes hours to finish.
in one you go to an objective and hold the scan button
in another you go to multiple objectives and hold the scan button, but with more people!

I'd be less disappointed by this if I didn't fear that much of the content will be more "protect Peter Dinklage while he hacks a computer" copy paste missions. I'm also of the mind that the invisible kill walls totally ruin any sense of adventure and exploration in the outdoor levels. I hope they dial those down in the final version. It should at least be readily apparent where you can't go-- if it boils down to a 50/50 chance you will die if you jump into/onto X then they're doing it wrong. That's some Bionic Commando reboot level shit.
I still plan on buying the game (mainly because I want to play my friends) but I'm definitely a bit let down by all of this.
