But you do have friends on Xbox Live.
Except I don't. And I don't know anyone who's getting Destiny.
But you do have friends on Xbox Live.
I don't really know what this is about, but it sounds like a rather important part of the game.
Wasn't I supposed to enjoy this game as a single player experience? But I am locked out of the interesting parts?!?
I havent played the beta so I might be totally wrong with this. Is pvp gear seperate from pve? Will people who raid have a gear advantage in pvp?
I thought all PvP was scaled to the same level regardless of gear or level?
At least I HOPE it is...

I suppose XBL could be lying to me then.Except I don't. And I don't know anyone who's getting Destiny.
This is an MMO in every way except party size.

Yeah.
one game mode that makes up a tiny fraction of the games content is forcing you to play with real friends or find a group online.
great reason to cancel.

And the part where Destiny is completely lacking in the social aspect.
It is one game mode that is possibly, if it is comparable to raids in most MMOs, the pinnacle and climax of the progression and plot of the game.
If this is being built like an MMORPG, raids aren't "a tiny fraction". It would be where a very large part of future content focuses on and is the mode they want everyone to aspire to doing. The game gets built around it.
I've got some bad news:
Raider
Complete a Raid
Raiding Party
Complete a Raid with a full fireteam consisting of only your clan members
Epic Raider
Complete a Raid on hard difficulty
All of those are risks that I, the consumer, should get to decide if I want to risk.Problems running with randoms
-no communication
-not knowing how long they're committed to stay online for
-not listening to directions of people who have been in there before, people with experience
-risk of people dropping out after the first wipe
-risk of inviting a troll just to make people's lives miserable
-risk of Leroy Jenkins
-risk of people not taking it as serious as you
I'm all for no matchmaking, this is why we have the destinygaf clan
Its a small portion of the game yet here people are with their torches and pitchforks again.

Considering they said this mode isn't for everyone I doubt its the pinnacle and climax of anything.
I only cancelled my preorder so I could post that I cancelled my preorder in every Destiny thread.
Fair enough guys. I went back and they say this:
"Raids are the cooperative aspirational end game activity in Destiny"
I still believe they should have a warning on the matchmaking and let people figure it out.

100% agree. Filling out your team with randoms is not all that bad.Another benefit of matchmaking is maybe you have 3 or 4 people and just need to fill out the rest of the group. When I did raiding in MMORPGs that was a pretty regular occurrence and we'd recruit randoms to come fill out the group. Even if they weren't the best, they still contributed something while our core group did the "heavy lifting".
Having to sit out the entire night because a few people were busy and couldn't make it was the worst.

...glad I'm in DestinyGAF.
I just watched the video related to this article and i have to say, as someone who spent many years playing World of Warcraft this is the exact same thing but as a first person shooter.
Strikes = Dungeons
Raids = Raids
Public events are pretty much the same thing Guild Wars 2 had.
Doing strikes to gear for raids is exactly how WoW works
Daily quests in Destiny is the same idea as Dailies in WoW
Obviously this video is not tailored to the story aspect but if you take everything into account that we know this far it really seems like the story will not be the shining point, and that most people will come for just the endless cycle of raids/gear upgrades like WoW.
Am i wrong?

I don't see how it affects you, but you just have to pop up every time with really defensive posts. Its really OK to let people make their own value judgments and even share them.Stupidest reason to list in your reasons of cancelling your pre-order.
Frankly, people who try to justify their pre-order cancellations are the fucking worst.
All of those are risks that I, the consumer, should get to decide if I want to risk.

If it wasn't for my buddies being super hyped for this game this news would have had me skip out on it as well. Just as I expect them to be bummed that we won't be able to do raids on our own, or through matchmaking.
Its fucking lame news for those of us who are buying the game for PVE and some co-op.
