Give me anything looking like that, I mean, this is up there among the best looking gaming jungles I’ve seen.Jesus, mother of .......
Give me a jurassic Park game looking like that lol
I'm legit struggling to see the difference between FH5 and 4. . .at least from a couch on a large screen. Both are good looking games. I'm sure there's more going on under the hood, but at some point (particularly in a racing game) there seems to be only so many improvements you can make between games (more detailed dirt, better "shadow maps" - I'm just throwing out words here - on the interior knobs of your car).
. . .in terms of graphical fidelity absolutely looks stunning; but there are absolutely better next generation showcases out there.
Kudos to MS for putting this on STEAM instead of waiting so that you have less than a year between game release versions on the platform.

Made me wonder, different genres I know but why does Halo Infinite looking all flat, stale and lifeless when Forza Horizon 5 looks like this and release earlier? Can’t they share the tech between the studios? Or would it break the game with this type of more lifelike and not so angular environment?
FH1 and 2 felt great at 30, they employ some tricks that make it feel great.Did they suggest the game is a better experience at 30fps than 60 or am I crazy?
They said it’s a more realistic experience due to the impressive use of motion blur, but perf mode “feels” the best to play.Did they suggest the game is a better experience at 30fps than 60 or am I crazy?
Halo is a very different game for Forza Horizon 5, won't go in all of them, but they're obvious. Also, Halo Infinite has incredible looking environments and its own unique art style. Clearly things can get pretty dense in Halo Infinite judging by what we've seen already.
This is quite a ways off from what I would describe as flat, stale or lifeless. Even the MP Flight demonstrated just how detailed things can be.
I haven't read through entire thread, but I was surprised at this post. While forza 4 looking really good, this is a visible and obvious step up. In fact I had the opposite reaction, I was genuinely shocked at how much better it looked than 4.
This response adds so much insight and thoughtfulness to the discussion that my mind has truly been taken to an higher consciousness by having read it.Driveclub looks better.
I hate 30 fps but it looks absolutely amazing. People with a high end PC are in for a ride.
Maybe I exaggerated a bit but going by last year’s trailer the vegetation is not nearly as dense as in FH5.
Just look at this last bit in this video. Unless they’ve upgraded it a ton in the last year Halo won’t even come close to this.
But maybe it wouldn’t work when it comes too gameplay?
I'd say Flight Simulator and Psychonauts 2 set the tone, but it looks like Xbox will be putting out some spectacular games this gen.Wonderful looking game and so fun. Really feels like Xbox first next gen game, looks so amazing.
There could almost certainly be parts of Halo Infinite that look pretty dense, or just as dense. We just haven't seen them yet. What I do know is that if that tiny area right by that UNSC base looked as dense as that, surely an actual forest location should look mighty impressive. And then of course we have to always keep in mind the very different things that Halo needs to consider. 120fps, co-op (after launch) actual gameplay that involves a heavy dose of flying vehicles, quite unlike the well orchestrated set-pieces in Forza Horizon 5, more complex AI than simply just other cars on the road, and a variety of physics/gameplay related aspects Forza Horizon 5 never needs to consider.
I mean, this is gaming, they're meant to be different. The last thing I want is for Halo Infinite's jungle to look like a cut and paste of what's in Forza Horizon 5. I wouldn't mind a dense jungle, but it needs to fit with Halo, like what we saw in the original reveal trailer. I love what I see of the natural, forest looking areas in this video. Based on the flight, latest screenshots and footage, I think Infinite will match this convincingly.
Wonderful looking game and so fun. Really feels like Xbox first next gen game, looks so amazing.
Fair enough, if they can match the engine reveal trailer then oh boy it’ll look amazing! But I’m keeping my expectations in check. As of now, before they’ve shown the updated Halo, FH5 is the graphics king of the MS platforms. Sound is amazing too with the interaction noises and ambient jungle sound and birds
I have no issues playing in 30fps in MS Flight Sim and would be fine with it in Starfield as well going by past Bethesda RPGs, but as soon as things are moving a bit faster I need a higher fps. I’m kinda scared to be honest, I have the PC to fix a low fps with MS games now but it could easily spread to other platforms and then the hype from 30fps visuals could get devs to go back to that again. What I love about what they did here was they put in a mode for the real graphics whores, that 30fps mode, while still delivering the 60fps people want. I hope more major Series X exclusives like Starfield, Hellblade, Perfect Dark, Avowed offer a quality mode as well as a 60fps mode.
Shit, as good as Halo Infinite looks, can you imagine what it would look like in campaign at 30fps if such an option were present? I totally prefer to play at 60fps in Halo's campaign, but wouldn't hurt to see what that would look like. But it shouldn't be 343i's primary focus. I say they look into that as a post launch quality mode option to crank everything up and show us what the game could look like at 30fps.
Did they suggest the game is a better experience at 30fps than 60 or am I crazy?
The Xbox one version of Forza horizon 4 looked good. Why would this be different ?Looks quite good. But the same probably won't be said about the base Xbox One version...
No they didn't suggest that. Regarding whether you are crazy, I can't comment but you might be showing some selection or more specifically interpretation biasDid they suggest the game is a better experience at 30fps than 60 or am I crazy?
They should offer a 3rd mode that dynamic res but that retains some of the settings of quality modeResolution is exactly the same for both quality and performance modes.
And frame rates are actually a big part of graphics. Nobody plays still images. But yes performance mode does have a few things scaled back (like a few blades of grass and what not).
We just have to give the wizards at Playground alot of credit. The framerate of both modes is locked in and people can choose whatever suits them.
Yeah I want that too, my eyes are crap, can’t see pixels even at 1080p from the couch unless I play on the projector, a 60fps quality mode would be very welcome. They should offer a 3rd mode that dynamic res but that retains some of the settings of quality mode

I’m definitely 60 biased. I hope such 30 praise by DF doesn’t influence a 30fps target for devs going forward on the new consoles. No they didn't suggest that. Regarding whether you are crazy, I can't comment but you might be showing some selection or more specifically interpretation bias
Game's gonna be great, but man, this kind of aliasing in 2021 sucks ass:
Not very "next gen"...
I like to brag on my own unprompted but if ask for it, I am happy to do it !Give us a screenshot like this showing you're logged into your gaf account and actually have a 3080. A lot of people always say this, and 90% of the time they don't actually have such a GPU. As you can see I have a Ryzen 7 3800X, 64GB of RAM with an RX 580.
edit: Forza Horizon 5 is a clear and obvious leap over Forza Horizon 4. To claim it's merely a refinement can't be taken seriously. The environmental complexity from a texture, geometry standpoint and lighting alone are on a different level.

Clean, how do you find using the C1 as a monitor? I was tempted to pick up a 48" but ive heard of some little niggles that are annoying. Might keep my rog swift as a p[rimary and try to wall mount a 48 CX. hmmm decisions.I like to brag on my own unprompted but if ask for it, I am happy to do it !
I got my 3080 FOUNDERS EDITION last year for MSRP. I think that's even stronger bragging rights.
You can see my neogaf, 3080, c1 and eve a bit of ps5 there... and YES. FH5 looks FANTASTIC but it's an evolution of 4 and not a revolution.
I think games like Demons Souls look more next gen. But for being a cross gen title, the fact that fh5 looks better than fh4 is admirable

MSAA is rarely (practically never) used in modern engines as it only treats part of the rendering pipeline leaving certain effects aliased. New temporal techniques are more capable in the modern era. What aliasing am I looking at? the game is pushing for native 4k with 4xMSAA. You aint getting much better than that!
Not impressed after R&C
I love your bonsai tree, nice touch!I like to brag on my own unprompted but if ask for it, I am happy to do it !

There's some shimmer on the bumper (fender). What aliasing am I looking at? the game is pushing for native 4k with 4xMSAA. You aint getting much better than that!
There was some surprise the Alan Wake remaster retained MSAA from the 360 era.
There's plenty of shader aliasing and shimmering. They talk specificly about it:I think that's the reflection of the grill as the camera moves if you're talking about the front chrome bumper? You can see it doesn't happen with the still camera, it's just a still reflection. Just a weird effect I think.
I think we are going to just see a generation of graphical options, especially where games are designed for pc in mind. If an option is 30fps, I don't personally care. If the only option is 30, then I do.I’m definitely 60 biased. I hope such 30 praise by DF doesn’t influence a 30fps target for devs going forward on the new consoles.
MSAA only deals with geometry aliasing, not shader (lighting) aliasing. The advantage of MSAA is that it doesn't blur the whole image so it looks very sharp but the downside is the shader aliasing will be very noticeable in some parts. Which is why most engines don't use MSAA anymore as there are better solutions overall with TAA family of techniques that will also take care about shader aliasing. What aliasing am I looking at? the game is pushing for native 4k with 4xMSAA. It's perfect. The size I got used to very quickly. Honestly, feel like any big monitor you get. TOO big at first and then 2 days later you get used to it.Clean, how do you find using the C1 as a monitor? I was tempted to pick up a 48" but ive heard of some little niggles that are annoying. Might keep my rog swift as a p[rimary and try to wall mount a 48 CX. hmmm decisions.
Also if anyone had to dethrone the king from LAST GEN, then I am glad its the FH series, well deserved because it has been amazing since FH3.
There is a density to the environments in Forza Horizon 5 that smashes what's in Forza Horizon 4. Geometry is just plain superior and more believable. There's more visual variety, shader and texture quality is all better, lighting is in a different tier. Why is lighting in a different tier? Because of things such as this. If people genuinely believe Forza Horizon 4 matches up to this, then they must be looking at a version of Forza Horizon 4 the rest of us haven't played.
Most engines don’t make use of MSAA because it needs far more resources. On the other side developers are mostly happy with the poor picture quality resulting from TAA. They hide it with aggressive depth of field and post processing and call it art style. Even UE TAA is far away from sharp if you know what you are looking for. However, considering the low amount of resources SMAA needs I would appreciate a toggle to activate it additionally. MSAA + SMAA combines best of two worlds in terms of picture quality. TAA is far more cost efficient and only a thing due to limited console hardware.MSAA only deals with geometry aliasing, not shader (lighting) aliasing.
