Digital Foundry vs. Dead Rising 3

Ps4 is objectively a better designed console but don't believe the betrayalton... remember the wallguy?

I'm pretty sure when the people playing this game are mowing down Zombies whilst dressed in a funny outfit, whilst driving a car, then those people won't care about the graphics.

Erm...when they've just paid $500 or £430 just for the console, 8 years after the last console was released....I think they'll care. Prettier graphics are one of the main reasons many people buy next generation consoles at launch....

Wow, that just looks... wow.

With DR3 looking like that (with frame rate issues to boot) and Ryse being "as fun as dialling a phone number", thank fuck for Forza eh?

Dead rising still looks fun as hell, just bad performance, that isn't as bad as the game being accused of being "as fun as dialling a phone number" its a shame that forza 5 is the only title that is both fun + technically pretty at launch

720p ... 20fps ... pop in ... shimmering ... aliasing issues ...

holy shit.

I guess they truly did go for that more filmic experience. DVD film anyway.

As someone who wanted to pick up an Xbox One for Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon, and D4 this is really disappointing. I can handle 720p, but sub 20 fps and bad pop-in are unacceptable given the hardware. There's still the latter games but I think I'll be waiting till next year when more games come out.

This is dynamic resolution, right? Does that mean it's 720p and up? Or is it going to be dropping below that? Because sub 720p and 20fps is just a disaster.

Obviously originally a 360 title, probably like Forza 5, which is said to look current gen too.

Will be interesting to see how large the gap is come next Christmas - I expect it to grow further - Infamous and Killzone look so far ahead of anything Xbone has produced, it's embarrassing, and even more by the fact that the Xbone is £80 more!

Well, Ryse is either the best looking launch title or second behind Killzone. When you have something like this showing then one needs to point to a game that shows the One isn't broken :D

You don't have to explain it, we know what's going on.

Maybe someone with time on their hands can point an example out to me, but I don't see people responding to criticisms of how Knack looks by saying "Well, we have Killzone so it's okay".

Dude when a game doesnt look so hot and runs like shit its going to effect the gameplay, i dont know why people keep bringing up gameplay gameplay even more so when framerate directly effects said gameplay.

It's no longer a dynamic resolution. They capped it down to 720p to improve the frame rate. I know that sounds strange given the frame rate is still 20fps or so in many places. But believe it or not, when it had a dynamic resolution, the frame rate was reported to be a lot worse....

I was kidding you silly goose.

And that's because Knack looks perfectly fine to good? Certainly has performance issues going by people who have played though.

The gameplay looks fine in the footage I've seen. There's people who played the game who've said it plays fine as well.

No that dynamic res was put to bed a while ago, its straight up native 720p.

Ah, fair enough. At least that's something.

Many assume it was dynamic resolution of the whole game. (720-900p)

Then it just ended up with 720p on the game, and 1080p on the UI (text, map, etc.)

Have the balls to directly insult me instead of resorting to weasel tactics such as this.

hello there.. it wasn´t an insult. sorry if you can´t see the fun in a post like that. I´m not insulting you in any way. Don´t worry be happy ... it´s console launch time.!

Corrinne Yu's team are obviously incredibly talented, but I feel as though setting a 60fps straightjacket for themselves is going to absolutely destroy Halo 5 as a visual powerhouse. It's practically guaranteed to be 720p, for a start, and that means immediately one big differentiator is gone. I'd be surprised if it looks much better than Halo 4.

If you said that it will run at 1080p then I'd agree that the game probably wouldn't look much better than Halo 4 but at 720p and looking pretty much the same as Halo 4 is highly unlikely IMO even if it runs at 60fps. If the 360 is capable of rendering something like Halo 4 at 720p and a steady 30fps (at least on campaign) then Xbone at 720p should do much much better than this.

Anyway curious to see how Halo 5 will look, hopefully they will show the game at the VGA awards.

Yeah it seems like 1080p and 60 FPS is only an option if you bake the lighting and tone down effects a lot. Not something Halo can afford, so we are looking at 900p or 720p here. Really unfortunate that this will probably muddle the IQ of an otherwise very good looking game.

The game looks ok for a launch title, plus it's the gameplay that matters for DR.

Lowered expectations is the only way I can get comments like this. If I had this game pre-ordered I would cancel. Resolution aside, not being a locked 30 is ridiculous.

If they have any common sense they'll be lamenting that they just spent $560 for this shit.

What is this I don't even... from 6 days ago...

"Eurogamer: What native resolution is Dead Rising 3?

Josh Bridge, executive producer, Capcom Vancouver: 720p. And I'm really happy with that, with the sheer amount of stuff we have in an open world game locked at 30fps, that's just brilliant. Of course our UI (user interface) runs at 1080 native on top, but no, we're a 720p game locked at 30fps."

The gameplay looks fine in the footage I've seen. There's people who played the game who've said it plays fine as well.

Some people say Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and GTA4 on consoles both play fine too. I don't doubt that it does for them, but I couldn't put up with the framerate on either, and trust me, I wish I could have.

DDR3 too slow for nextgen?
This is actually a real question, I'm not an expert on the matter.

Also, they said the game would be "locked" at 30fps. Wtf?

Gosh, so apart from having no loading times, better particle effects and an insane amount of zombies on screen at once there's nothing next-gen about Dead Rising 3?

/s

Locked 30fps =/= Constant 30fps

This only mean that DR3's max fps is 30.

The journos need to call them out on the framerate. The guy said 30 fps locked and its very much not.

Grow a spine journos and ask the question!

Yikes. I can't believe it, but I actually don't think it's hyperbole to say that those screens look like a 360 game. Maybe it looks great in motion, but dips below 30fps make me worry that might not be the case.
