I popped my front left tire three events in a row, and had to maneuver insane turns with the tire rim fighting me through two-thirds of each event. It was awesome.

I wish they would increase money gain. To me it feels grindy to get more expensive cars. Community average is only two vehicles owned.

Agreed. I did dailies for like 3 months straight and only got like 1-4 cars with one in each decade nearly. That's just really slow.

According to their stats page, I've almost driven halfway around the world in Dirt Rally (18,500 km) and had a crash every 11 km on average. Don't lend me your car in real life. ;)

You can finally see all your best stage times per class and how they compare on your profile page (on dirtgame.com) too. In-game would be nicer, but it's better than having to complete a stage to see your record.
It seems like CM added that and a bunch of other stats without much fanfare or maybe I just missed it.

Fully agree!

If you're looking for some quick money, Hillclimb is very abusable:
- Create a custom Hillclimb championship with 4 events, 1 stage per event, Masters difficulty.
- Every event will have the same stage (Section 1, 2 or 3 or Full Course). If you get Full Course, just retire out of every event or abandon the championship.
- If you get a single section, abandon the first run immediately and do your best in the second one. Thanks Sini!
- The reward per event is up to 170k for 1st and even down in 12th you'll still get ~100k. Pretty good for 3 minutes of driving. :)

Prerequisites are obviously a Hillclimb car and enough skill not to come dead last (16th barely pays anything). Based on the latest blog, this might be patched out soon.
why didn't we know about this sooner? I stopped playing the game altogether because i couldn't get enough money together to enjoy the new cars for the new modes and tracks that have been released since the update after the hillclimb one.

And now its going to be patched out?

They were talking about rebalancing Hillclimb rewards to be more in line with Rally events in the latest road book (site seems to be down atm). Maybe they'll have another look at Rally payouts while they're at it?

There were always various schemes to maximize your income. Early on it was completing only one event per championship and retiring out of the other ones since placing last still paid very well. Hillclimb paid insanely well from the start, especially because the opponent times were very weak initially. The current bug(?) with custom events only makes it more ridiculous. Even Rallycross pays better than Rally (harder now with the improved AI).
I guess these tricks were never talked about much. For players who played a lot and "mastered" Master difficulty, cars were always very affordable (took me some time to get there). Buying perks and hiring your engineers for the next 500 stages is just a nice bonus.

So DirtGAF, if I'm somewhat able to drive the Mini Cooper (we're talking a consistent 4th or 5th, sometimes 3rd on a tarmac stage, but they're raaare) ... what other car of more recent years would suit?

Would love to have the time to try them all, but alas, real life gets in the way...

Coming up to the 300K mark now and want to get something worthwhile.

Can't see them hard earned bucks go to waste now. :)

First of all, I'd make sure to test drive any potential purchase in a custom event.
As mentioned a couple of posts above, a Hillclimb car could be used to make a lot more credits really quick. However it's not as interesting as Rally and the exploit might go away soon.

In terms of Rally of recent years, I'd recommend a 2000s car. They're all very quick and quite fun to drive (even more than the 2010s imo). I generally go for the 2007 Ford when I want results and the 2001 Ford for a fun time.
These might be a little bit out of your price range though.

You could probably afford either a Group A or R4 car. These are a bit less quick and nimble than the 2000s cars, but also give a good 4wd experience. The Group A Lancia and the R4 Impreza would be my favorites.

Of course there's always Group B. Actually cheaper than the modern 4wd cars, but the learning curve coming from the Mini is a bit steep...
If you're willing to stay in the past a bit longer, the 1970s RWD cars are all a lot fun (maybe avoid the Stratos) and quite cheap.

You can't really go wrong, all of the cars have their upsides and are great fun after a bit of practice. :)

Does anyone know if Dave Sullivan (senior audio designer) will be working on the next GRID game from Codies?

Imo, Dirt Rally has set the bar when it comes to racing audio. I'm really anxious to see what Dave and the team will come up with for their next game..

Be aware this isn't Dirt 1-3, there is no dude-bro 'upload your crazy fast time to YouTube' crap, this is more akin to Richard Burns Rally and all the better for it.

I hope Codemasters follow the Dirt Rally development and realism focus route for future releases.

even better, I hated dirt 1-3. I want old school colin mcrae rally.

the guys parking their cars there would have deserved it smh

I loved Dirt 1, really liked a lot about Dirt 2, kind of got annoyed with Dirt 3, but man do I absolutely love the ever freakin hell out of Dirt Rally. I think it's my favorite rally game of all time, even in it's current "unfinished" state which has felt pretty damn complete to me for some time now.

I'll be playing this game for years, no doubt.

Holy Cow, watch this guy race in Dirt Rally. I'm a rank amateur and terrible at the game compared to these driving skills, I mean wow.

So maad.
I did the weekly Group B event in Finland and I got punctures on 4 stages. 3 of them were from big jumps and one was from an ad board that I unintentionally drove under. The roof barely scraped it but game still thought it was nice to give me another puncture. :c

Edit: And I also got one in Ford Escort daily, also from landing a big jump. Grrrr

I was veeery careful over all the big jumps in the Finland Group B Weekly and got away with only one puncture. 15th so far, so I guess that approach paid off...

Why avoid the Stratos? It's the only car I've been using.
I think it's fair to say that the Stratos is the most challenging of the 70s cars to drive. It seemed irresponsible to recommend it to a (seemingly) relatively inexperienced driver. Of course it's also a lot of fun to come to grips with it. :)

Pun intended?

I've found that's a damn hard car to drive. Possibly moreso with a controller, but yeah... shit's not easy.

I don't feel so bad about my 5th place finishes now. I'm trying to get enough money to do the hillclimb money maker to get some new cars.

**********nvm. I need to not suck to unlock difficulties for custom championships I guess.

Oh, I didn't realize that higher difficulties for custom championships aren't unlocked automatically. :( You could still try to get as close to Master as possible in the regular Hillclimb championship. Probably still pays better than comparable Rally events.

The game is not very demanding at all so 60fps with a mix of high ultra PC settings should be doable at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One.
Indeed. I've got an average of 65 fps on an i5 with 660 GTX at mostly ultra settings with only very few effects set to very high.
Don't own that PC though so I'm happy it's coming to PS4 now.

Oh I hope the console versions are 60fps, I don't mind 30fps dirt but I feel something like this needs to be 60 due to the fast reaction times and nature of being more sim-like.

Saying "not very demanding" when that chart shows a 960 with i7 can't hit 60 is a bit of a stretch :p

A 960 is a mid-range GPU. A 2012 GPU like the 680 can get you "max" settings at very nearly 60fps even on mid-range CPUs.

Point stands, the game is not "demanding" at all. Old parts do very well and I have no doubt 60fps will be easily achievable on consoles with a few settings lowered.

Also, this benchmark was made very soon after the early access was released, performance has been further improved.

with a 7950 and i5 2500k not oc'd I never drop a frame vsync'd 60fps on the High preset. It drops to upper 40's on ultra, but not worth it to me.

The benchmark is with 4xMSAA as well.

Yeah, with something like 2xMSAA or a post process solution I don't see how this cannot be 60fps.

Hell, I was playing it with a 5970 and once I worked out how much performance was being chewed by post-processing (completely unnecessary in this game IMO) I was getting about 60fps at 720P on a medium/high combo (from memory). A console should be able to shit this in at 60fps and still look good. At least, the PS4 ;)

What kind of alien is this guy?? He is so good, he killed my admiration for other really good drivers.

Btw, are we getting the final update early next week? Anyone with some Dirty info? :)

Achievements have been updated, so i think it will be sooner rather than later.
Also, i read somewhere that the update will be out in the first half of December. Since the update is not out yet (obviously), maybe we'll be getting it next week?

I can't wait for Sweden. We've decided that for Xmas this year, I'm gonna hook up my PC to the TV in the living room with my T500RS and we're gonna take turns in Dirt Rally and see who can make it through unscathed. Sweden will no doubt be a tough run with the snowbank tech they put in.

I just bumped into this on steam saying that it's out of early access, congrats codies and I hope you get good sales.

Console release! mmmmm
