Fucking A. I cannot wait.

Picked this up the other day in the sale and I realized how dependent I have been on the rewind feature in the previous Dirt games. Either that or I'm just plain shit at this one. In any case, while I enjoy the absence of rewind during championships because it adds another layer of tension and satisfaction if you nail it, I would really like them to add rewind again in a practice mode of sorts. I like learning the tracks but it's tedious to have to start all over or slowly back up to retry and master a certain section.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

While certain cars and stages are just plain difficult, driving at 8/10ths is far more enjoyable than 9-10/10ths and having to restart every crest, left 3, tightens, over bumps, into right 1.

Considering that STi was the car I drove the most in Dirt 2 and 3, it's gonna be a hell of a change to see how it handles in Rally.

Do you guys play this with a wheel? I'd like to buy it, but I only have DS4 controller and don't know if it's worth it without better equipment.

EDIT: Fuck, should have refreshed :I It's a buy then.

I play it with the DS4 and it works great with DR, I think it has native support for it too. (I use it with DS4Windows)

Just took the plunge on the Elite Controller this weekend and cranked this up as the first game to try it on after a few months hiatus.

My previous controller's left stick axis was completely borked which had me put this on hold whilst awaiting the arrival of the Elite.

But boy what a difference a few months make! The updates to the game have added some really nice, subtle features. The damage for instance, seems to be broken down into varying degrees of damage for certain sections (whereas before I'd get a puncture and that'd be it). The HUD speedometer disappears if I damage that part of the car (or at least I think that's what happened).

Driving with the Elite Controller has added hella more depth to, the R2 trigger so much more responsive to acceleration now I can (almost) get around without crashing (...almost .. and still around 1:30 off the pace)

I've started to get hang of the cockpit view, and this just adds a whole new dimension to the game entirely. The sense of speed as you feather touch your way around the course is just, there's no other word for it but .. exhilarating!

At least 5 times on my last run did I utter the words "Awesome!" and "Whoa!" ... like, aloud. Tis a rare thing indeed when this happens .. :)

So well done Codies, you've produced a marvel...and it's still only Early Access.

Wowzers..

Just (really just) as I finish reading last weeks Road book, Steam starts downloading the Modern masters update :)

@notoccupanther Can the bottom paddles on the Elite controller be used for shifting and if so, how is it?

Have the other updates been this big? This is weighing in at 6.5 gigs, which seems like an awful lot for just some cars. Are we getting tracks in this update too?

Previous updates were like 3 to 4 GB while including locations, this one updates previous locations too.

The gift that keeps on giving,

Here's some patch notes for today.

It's time for 0.9! Today’s version 0.9, dubbed Modern Masters, sees the introduction of two of the most influential rally cars in the last decade to the 2000s class: The Citroën C4 Rally 2010 and the Ford Focus RS Rally 2007. At their peak, these cars reigned supreme with their two litre turbo charged engines and highly sophisticated differentials.

The update also sees the introduction of the R4 class to DiRT Rally. Featuring the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X and the Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2011, this class represents cars from two of the most iconic manufacturers in modern rallying.

In addition, as part of our continued commitment to Early Access the Modern Masters pack sees the Group B 4WD and Group A classes receiving the latest handling updates. We’ve also been hard at work adding community requested features as well as fixing a number of known issues.

Here’s the list of what’s new this month:

New R4 class with 2 cars (Subaru Impreza WRX STI & Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X)
2 new cars added to 2000s class (Ford Focus RS Rally & Citroën C4 Rally)
v.2 Car Handling on R4, Group B 4WD and Group A
Additions and Community Requests:
Stage distance and elevation is now shown in stage information screen
Steering rotation in cockpit now matches actions of player when the driver arms are not shown.
Manual control for headlights and wipers
New liveries featured on some cars including the Repsol livery on the Lancia Delta
Countdown timer added for the last 60 seconds of a Rallycross race
Grid Order and Assists added to session options in PVP
Player preferences is now available in the Lobby and Online Service Area
· Fixes

o Fixed the CPU detection so the correct thread strategy is chosen for your PC. This fixes the stuttering issues that we may have introduced in v0.8, sorry about that!

o The achievement “Visceral... but in the correct meaning of the word” is now only unlockable when meeting the required criteria. This should mean it is a proper challenge to unlock again.

o The timing of some co-driver calls for Finland have been adjusted, they won’t be as early in some places. Also, they’ve got a bit braver so they’ve raised their volume a bit too.

o Advanced Custom Wheel configurations are now saving correctly, Clutch deadzone and saturation settings will now be saved with wheel settings too. Yay!.

o Animal protection services have been on the phone so we’ve had to move the wildlife on some stages to safety.

o Issues with systems crashing at the start of a stage when using AMD Crossfire are now resolved.

o The game will save after you receive your rewards from online events – yeah, they didn’t do that before.

o Fixed a crash that would occur if you exited to the menus in a Rallycross event at the semi-finals .

o Fixed the Logitech G29 actionmap so you can navigate the menus correctly – we finally got hold of one to test it out.

o Fixed repair puncture OSD text remaining on screen after the player retires.

o Fixed the wrong points being displayed for entrants when any of the reverse grid options were enabled in PvP.

o “Gotta Get Me One of These” and “Any Given Sunday” achievements both now unlock when completed in any relevant online event.

o Spectating another player crash at high speed in PVP will no longer break the camera changing system.

o The mouse cursor will now hide when the mouse is not moved for a short period of time, solving the issue where the mouse cursor would remain on screen when played in windowed mode.

o AI difficulty levels should now be working within league play.

Feel free to stop by on the forums and let us know what you think or just to say hi!

Love,

The DiRT Team

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I'm glad we finally got a Mitsubishi in the game. I may actually come back.

Have Codemaster's talked about the Steam controller? I'm curious if anyone on their team is using it and/or there's a bind out there for it to try out.

F*ck, got home today and opened up Steam to download the update, but there was none. Then I though that it was due to release tomorrow, and now I saw that the update was paused (?!). Weird, never seen this before. Anyway, downloading NOW!

If this is for the stutter issue that I'm hoping it is, I will be a happy man! It was really lessening my enjoyment of this game. So this patch is out now?

What button do you guys use for handbrake? I was using the flappy paddles but I feel I can squeeze faster lap times if I switch that to gear change vs the using the stick shiftier.

Did a quick test with all four new cars and they all feel awesome! Sad to see that the C4 doesn't have some nice liveries; only boring red or white paint jobs. Bought a Focus instead, and the Impreza (although the specs on the Lancer seemed better) because of the cooler paint schemes, and started a new championship on the career with it. I'm loving it! :)

what should i buy after a group b awd?

The Audi used to be the easiest one to drive before handling v.2. The Lancia and the Peugeot seemed faster to me tho. I don't know how things are now with the new handling.

EDIT: oh, AFTER. Sorry. :p

Group A used to be my favs, specially the Escort. R4 seems to be similar (but even better). But they might feel disappointing after group B. :p

@notoccupanther Can the bottom paddles on the Elite controller be used for shifting and if so, how is it?

You can, by first remapping the A and X buttons to the paddles through the App. The changes are kept in-game.
After that, my manual handling isn't the best anyway, so I find it difficult at the best of times.

They are extremely light to the touch though. Whether that's a good our bad thing I dunno...personally I'd prefer if there was that little bit more depth during use. It kind of feels like a feeble click rather than a meaty gear change...if you catch my drift. (No pun intended).

That's a shame, I also kinda (subconsciously) expected them to be "heftier". I don't know why really, now that I think about it. I'll have to try it anyway before I commit to buying this controller.
Thanks for answering!

Because it is an Early Access game on PC and we PC gamers are partly helping to fund Dirt Rally's development. We also act as beta testers and a focus group.

When Dirt Rally is completed, it'll be released on consoles.

Awesomeness, can't wait for PS4 version.

That's good, the impressions here seem to be glowing as well, I've been craving a new racing game and this is looking promising.

It doesn't have the greatest cars an tracks list out there, but boy, oh boy... it's so good that you don't even care!

Be aware this isn't Dirt 1-3, there is no dude-bro 'upload your crazy fast time to YouTube' crap, this is more akin to Richard Burns Rally and all the better for it.

I hope Codemasters follow the Dirt Rally development and realism focus route for future releases.
