Donkey Kong Country Returns announced [N-CONF]

This looks so fun! I know there are a lot of fans of DK:JB around here, but I'm glad Nintendo's releasing another DKC. You can tell Retro is putting a lot of work into this. There are a lot of subtle details going on with the graphics. It's going to be an amazing game. I'm glad DK is getting the attention he deserves.

Well, does Nintendo actually own those characters? Kremlings, animals buddies, and so on?

They do, since they appeared in a number of titles after Rare left the boat, like Donkey konga, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Mario Baseball, Mario Super Sluggers, etc...

I also wouldn't rule out Kremlings being in. Maybe they're not the primary protagonists this time around, but surely they're in there one way or another.

Unfortunately, they specifically said that there are no crocodiles in the game, and also that King K. Rool is out.

That's such a shame... :(

Yeah, they've popped up here and there after the split. Kremlings were the main baddies of King of Swing and Jungle Climber, Rambi appears as a kart in one of the Mario Kart games, several appeared in Konga, trophies and stickers in Smash Bros., and some other stuff.

What are you talking about? The Kremlins rule and so do the other characters. :O

make me puke

...

okay they're not actually that offensive, but i am glad they are not in this game - they were never good

especially those inbred kongs

Yea, I know, that's such a shame...

Sounds sarcastic... but I really do think it is a shame.

I'm still absolutely buying this no matter what, but the more I hear the more I'm getting discouraged (diddy not playable, no kremlins, no K. Rool :(, no David Wise)

You must be kidding...
The caricatural attitude of the enemies is one of the most memorable features of the Donkey Kong Country series.

These Kitis guys really pale in comparison, characterisation wise.

It sounds wrong, I do really miss Kremlings, and I share your worries. :/

Rewards for perfect runs and lots of unlockables? Makes the game even better than I imagined.

And I couldn't care less about no Kremlings. I always thought they were pretty lame.

The following things suck and should be left out of DKC:R
  • King K. Rool
  • Kremlins
  • Animal buddies
  • Kong's that aren't Donkey, Diddy, or Cranky

only thing i remember about the kremlins is how stupid they were

edit: i agree with shocking alBERTo - the variety was the great thing about the kremlins, but that can be achieved without those ugly-ass mugs

(i didn't see much variety in the e3 videos, but... i'll wait and see)

Wow. Funky Kong and Candy Kong could make an appearance and I'd be fine. Plus the animal buddies are a main aspect to the series!

You can have your funky kong and your candy kong, just keep them relegated to their respective drug dealeries and whore houses. I don't want to have to deal with them at all story-wise or gameplay-wise.

Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong, Baby Kong, Retard Kong, Kongy Kongy Kong Kong, etc. are the DK equivalent of Sonic's shitty friends and they need to GTFO completely.

yeah uh... i like the animal companions

U:
Man so much Kremlings hate here...
Kremlings are the better reptiles,Koopas suck.
lol

you have horrible taste

except bowser jr

bowser jr is up there with fucking dixie kong ugh

At first I was skeptical.

But after watching the gameplay videos, I really don't care what does or doesn't make an appearance. Retro are going to do a great job with the game.

So some people are complaining that not enough things are different and then others are complaining that it's not exactly the same as the other DKCs.

Sounds like NeoGAF!

I'm just interested in seeing more. In the IGN interview they hinted that they've got a lot of interesting things hidden up their sleeves, and this E3 reveal was to show levels that are already familiar to DKC fans and feed off that nostalgia. I expect as we inch closer to release, we'll see some more crazy levels or original features that will make this game a must-have.

Yeah I can't wait for the game to surprise me :D
The Kremlings not returning is not a big deal.

He's right tho, how can you be spouting all that bullshit when you have a ludwig von Koopa av. C'mon

Like I said, they shouldn't have put Country in the name. Should've gone with the branding of DK like he's known nowadays.

Why are people who disliked 90% of the DKC games constantly posting in a DKC hype thread?

Christopher said:
Why no King K. Rool? He's basically Donkey Kong's Bowser...
Yeah, but admit it. It would be nice if Nintendo gave Bowser a vacation for the next Mario game :D

Mario has other enemies, and Nintendo are creative enough to create some new ones.

Besides, I believe the kremlins will have some role, even if it's just a build up to the second game.

He isn't known nowadays. But the Country series is still fondly remembered. That's why they did it.

But Bowser is an iconic villain

King K. Rool is just kind of there, changes dramatically each game, and no one but people on this board associate him with Donkey Kong. He's mined out whenever a sports game or racer needs a few more characters.

He's more like Donkey Kong's Petey Piranha. Cactus King made a better boss.

Apparently the Sonic games made people think that having 'friends' in games next to the main protagonist(s) is bad.

Most of the time this is true, with Donkey Kong Country it is not. I really liked Kiddy Kong and the Donkey Kong 64 characters. They were not just 'tacked on' for gameplay's sake but it felt like they genuinely belonged in the world. This is also the truth for most of the animal 'friends'. Rambi, Expresso, Enguarde, all of them were great characters and were fun to play and interact with in the gameworld. I really hope they bring some of the back, if only for cameo-ish bonus stages.

Those gameplay videos look great. I haven't looked at this game since the Nintendo conference livestream, and now- well, I want it now. Retro, you guys are so awesome.

I think K. Rool is more associated with DK than Dr. Eggman is with Sonic.
It's not big loss, and the people who remember him won't mind. But he is the DK bad guy, Country series are the most popular DK series and many people played them.

But in the end, it won't matter at all. Not to me, and probably not to you guys.

Really?
Krool is more associated with DK and more famous than friggin Cactus King.
I had to google him to see who he was and that says a lot.

I agree about the animals and would not like to see them taken away.

Dixie was fine. Everything after her was not.

And they just got worse from there

Donkey and Diddy were low-key designs. Dixie was fun to play as and was in the best game in the series.

People not only think these are bad designs because they were in comparatively disappointing games, but also because they were bad designs.
