Donkey Kong Country Returns announced [N-CONF]

i saw an interview where they said you could rush through levels and be rewarded for it
They do it here and they didn't do it in Metroid? Oh Retro.

I always love it when developers reward speedruns. The only better thing they can do is provide them, like in NSMB Wii.

I hope so. I still remember the ending of the first Donkey Kong Country when Cranky Kong claimed that he could have beaten the game in under and hour without dying. That motivated me to do the same, and I started doing speed runs. I eventually managed to get 101% in 52 minutes. These speed runs really helped me appreciate just how tight the DKC games really were. It would be a shame if DKC Returns is radically different in this regard.

there's no water levels

wow, i'm actually kinda sad, i dont mind a few water levels
Wait, where did you hear this? I'm willing to give the new enemies a chance (I'll miss some of the Kremlins but I'd rather have something new) but getting rid of water levels just makes the game less diverse.

Unrelated: Nintendo should talk Sega into letting Retro develop a 2D Sonic game. :D

While anyone would be better than Sega, I think only Masahiro Sakurai the High Necromancer of Gaming could resurrect that franchise at this point.

Suddenly people care about underwater levels? :lol
You didn't like the Gangplank Galleon water levels? The ones in DKC1 are a bit simple and can be frustrating at times due to the change of pace/controls, but the DKC2 water levels are much more active, weird and fun.

Tanabe: "There are no underwater stages this time around."

Wait. That last one was an answer with information. Walker elaborated, saying that experiments with DKC-style underwater levels: "felt slow... It just wasn't the kind of gameplay we were looking for."
kotaku interview

i dont like if there was an entire section of water stages, but a few here and there would be nice

Who owns the rights to the songs from the original DKC trilogy? Is there a possibility we'll be hearing some remixes of some of the classics?

Sorry for the double post, but Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is beginning.

My favorite series went from forgotten has-been to potential superstar in a matter of weeks. :U

Awesome.

Any word on the music? Is it playing?

Donkey Kong play through succcckeeed.

Reggie said that this was the first time it had Co-op...
Jimmy said he loved this on the N64. Reggie corrected him. :lol
Jimmy didn't know that A was jump.

They played for like a minute and got no where in the level. :lol

Damn, seems like the game got no air-time.

Didn't the other games get more airtime earlier in the week?

The 3DS segment was just stupid.

Christ, I have a very hard time believing Fallon is a video game player when he has to ask what fucking button to press to JUMP. Maybe just try the most obvious button first. Jesus. Also "I LAST PLAYED THIS ON N64 RITE LOLOLOL" :lol

Game looked sweet though!

3DS next year, as expected. Probably March

There is no way he plays games, and we were worried about Reggie screwing up the demo...

Was the 3DS release date reveal planned? It seemed really sudden...

Oh well, at least it's before the end of the current fiscal year that's 200% certain.

What's wierd though is that I thought Nintendo wanted some breathing time between the 3DS and Wii Hi-Fi. Now we'll get both in 2011 it seems.

Looked better than ever to me on the big screen.
The aliasing on DK bothered me as well as the flat looking colors in that opening level.
SNES games were much more vibrant.

Oh well, I know it'll still be fun.

Haha, a new Wii in 2011.
You're silly.

Reggie really loves the new ground-drumming move in DKCR. That's all he seemed to know how to do. Lol. Gotta love the big guy.

Seriously though, the graphics looks smooth as hell. Is Nintendo really going to release this AND Kirby within just a couple of months from each other? They both look so good that I'm afraid one of them will get pushed into early 2011.

Retro isn't known for lack of graphical polish, I am sure it will look unbelievable on a standard definition telelvision!!!!!!

Retro is known for technical achievement in visuals.

The graphics are the last thing in the world to be concerned about, the level design is the first thing as they are making their platforming debut(with some help).

2012. If I see you at launch, you'll at least be first in line.

Only realistic thing that could put the new Wii in 2012 = Zelda.
This either because they can't release it as fast as they would want OR that the game sells so much they don't want to cut it.

What does Zelda have to do with anything...?

You don't want awesome games to distract people from your new platform. Unless you pull something like they did with Twilight Princess of course.

Well, doesn't that confirm that a new console WON'T be launching next year, then?
Since Zelda is coming out next year...

I'm not confirming anything, all I am saying is that Zelda MIGHT influence things. Could help push the next Wii in 2012.
