They need to replace that skill. I always thought a nice ability for him would be able to place a bear trap down and when an enemy walks on it, they get stuck for a certain amount of time. Kinda like how ensnare acts.

nerf to its pushing power, buff to it overall. Use three stacks during a gank to keep the target in range while you pop em. Mana cost difference is also pretty big.

The nerf to illusions vs towers hurts him slightly but he's mostly a teamfighter/ganker anyway so I'm not sure if that's too much of a big deal.

I really liked this post of his. I care a lot about the players mind sets and how they feel about all the things behind the scenes that we never know about. These topics are extremely important for the future of Dota 2 if we want this e-sport to expand in a healthy and long lasting way.
