The DBZ movies are really confusing to me:

Android 13:

-The fuck with Goku asborbing the spirit bomb? I mean, it was cool as shit, but it's never seen again.

Bojack:

-Was Bojack stronger than Cell?
-Why didn't Gohan turn SSJ2 in the beginning when the fight began?
-How the hell did Goku leave the afterlife with IT?

Broly:

-The family uses the kamehameha wave against him. Gohan still not using SSJ2?

I would be 100% okay with Piccolo getting an arbitrary power boost in order to be back in the relevant tier. Just have King Kai teach him the Kaioken or something, considering Piccolo's Super Namekian status plus any training he's done since the Cell saga that would boost him up considerably.
Considering piccolo and by extension kami were considered gods I think it would be easy to make a storyline and power up around that.

I always wished Tien provided a better matchup against Drum.

Drum was probably as strong as Tambourine and Goku whooped Tambourine (the second go around of not being hungry). And Tien and Goku were roughly equals at the time.

Drum was stated to be the strongest demon created by Piccolo. IIRC, it's also the only one that he creates after recovering his youth.

The anime completely changed how that fight went though. Tenshinhan actually beats Drum, and only loses because he attempts to use the Mafuba against Piccolo Daimao and then Drum reappears and interrupts, leaving him too tired to continue fighting, and so he's easily beaten like in the manga.

Tri-Beam hasn't made sense after the saiyan saga yeah. Still a good moment though.

I actually think that what doesn't make sense is the Kikoho used against Nappa. That attack is supposed to be multiple times stronger than the Kamehameha, and that's the only time we see it used with full power like it was meant to be used (killing the user in one shot)... and yet at most it seems to have multiplied Tenshinhan's power by three times or so (since he was easily stronger than a Raditz level Saibaimen, so his power level should be at least 1500), while the Kamehameha in the Raditz battle doubled Goku's power.

making sense of the dbz movies is a fool's errand

100% this, it's a futile effort.

Yeah, that Kikoho is weird now that you mention it. Tien poured his life into the attack, but couldn't damage Nappa. Daizenshuu had Tien at 1,830, while Nappa was at 4,000 and they made it sound like Nappa would have died if he didn't block the attack. . . Meh, I don't know, Toriyama probably just didn't give a shit.

He also had one hand and just got the shit beat out of him so he probably didn't have that much ki left anyway.

In the manga, he had been hit only twice, once losing his hand and afterwards he was kicked away when he attempts to fly behind Nappa to attack him. The extended battle only happened in the anime. Right after he's kicked Chaotzu self destructs and afterwards Tenshinshan himself dies in the next chapter.

And, if the hand were a problem he could just have summoned those extra arms again.

Weren't those arms just illusions and not actual arms? Because i don't think he can regenerate arms like Piccolo.

No, Goku matched them with his speed creating the illusion of more arms, but Tenshinhan could actually create more physical arms. Yes, it's not the same as actual regeneration though.

Because tien has been relegated to a jobber at that point.

Yeah I thought about that, but the attack doesn't just use ki, right? I'm probably getting this wrong, but it felt like life energy and ki were separate entities.

Because tien has been relegated to a jobber at that point.

The more likely answer lol.

Freaking hate they're using Gohan's idiot design from GT

The hair in front on Z is subtle but makes a big difference

They're movies, so it doesn't really matter either. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Vegeta's gravity training numbers.

I really wish this new saga took place literally after cell saga, or at least gohan looking a little older, like in bojack film. Having him the savior again while goku in the afterlife would've been amazing.

Speaking about Tenshinhan, I'm actually surprised that he was included in that night cut right after Vegeta and Piccolo in the new ending. Not like it means anything though, looking at the opening one would think that Gohan was going to be a serious fighter in Super.

It's technically the design from the End of Z (somehow he and Videl aged 10 years while no one else has changed yet). GT's design had some odd head/body proportions too in addition to the End of Z hairstyle. He's soon getting the RoF design anyway.

Scholars can't have bangs. Scholars must wear glasses they don't need this is necessary that is how we know Gohan is a smart.

All kidding aside, Tien does more cool shit like this in his handful of tournament fights than anyone else manages throughout the entire series. His entire character was Toriyama going "what's the craziest-ass thing I can think of this week?" and running with it while everyone else got stuck throwing around bigger lasers.

Gohan only got better as Goku got worse imo, i never liked him until the Cell game, then Goku (my favorite character) slowly became an insufferable jerk that stealed the spotlight and only wanted to battle.

He was always like that though.

He even had a cool meditation before going to battle.

A lot of people's perception of Goku is different than how Toriyama viewed the character because:

A) The anime made Goku out to be a bit more heroic and selfless than his manga counterpart.

B) The English dubs of Z increased this by kinda scrubbing out stuff like "Well, spare Vegeta's life, Krillin, because I want to fight him again" and giving him lines like the "ally to good" speech.

C) Most non-Japanese audiences were exposed to Dragon Ball via Z, which starts with the Saiyan-Frieza arcs where Goku acts easily the most nobly and heroic he does in the entire series, while facing off against villains who, by contrast, are arguably the most needlessly evil and selfish in the series.

Gohan has a wife and kid, married into wealth and is currently happy, no reason why he should give a shit about fighting.

I hate to think this hard about children's cartoons

But it's kinda shitty to just give up on fighting when, just a few years ago, you were the most powerful fighter on the planet. When there's some crazy evil dude like Majin buu threatening to blow up the universe, it would be nice if gohan gave a shit and helped out instead of chilling with his hot wife and all of his money and not training at all

Vegeta chewed Gohan's ass out for not training in the Buu saga, that whole thing should've been a wake up call that he shouldn't have slacked off. The earth needed him and he fucked up, needed his dead daddy to bail everyone out again.

If he had quickly beaten Dabura, Buu never revives.

Maybe if he had kept training his reflexes his dumbass wouldn't have missed catching a damn ring being thrown at him and wouldn't have let Gotenks be absorbed.

smh Gohan.

Thats the thing, he isnt chilling, he has a career and is working on that and everything else ontop of the hot wife and child. he is living a life, something he didnt get to do until he got into highschool. and only that was shortlived with buu saga.

Then get out of the show lol.

Dbz isn't some deep show that delves into marital relations or struggles as a family/business man. It'd probably be bad if it did.

If you're not fighting, get out of shot, pretty much. Like yamcha, tien, krillin, and even piccolo in the buu saga.

Edit
Ok and why do people keep saying hot wife? I mean....eh whatever nvm.

They have already did that if you havent noticed.

And I just ran with it cause anth0ny said it lol

It's only gonna get worse for Gohan fans once Freeza shows up.

Gohan hasn't been a decent fighter since the Cell games and had to sit on his ass to become relevant again in the Buu saga only to mess it up five seconds later.

For those of you interested in the show's ratings.

The last two weeks had been dreadful. With last week being the lowest of all time for Dragon Ball Super. (4.7%)

Well this week had a phenomenal (and deserved given animation quality) success, getting a strong 6.6% , only 1% behind one piece.

Too bad next week seems to look like shit, but hopefully Frieza can boost the ratings despite lack of quality that is bound to happen eventually.

I don't get Gohan fans btw.

He DOESNT want to fight. Why do you want him to ?

I can side with Trunks and Goten fans that want them to grow up, but Gohan has a new life. If anything he should be able to help in fights due to his mind. Wanting him to get muscles again is really shallow. And he is never topping Goku again so might as well make him a different kind of fighter, or just let him be with his family.

Put him in a position where he needs to fight at some point. I'd hope that the shenanigans in RoF would have him think "Hmm maybe I should actually train again so I can protect people I love rather than not because I hate fighting" That's probably super wishful thinking though.

Basically his will to protect people would be higher than his dislike for fighting. That's a more compelling concept than "I just wanna be the best cause I love fighting!" I don't know why people use "he doesn't want to fight" as the end all be all reasoning for why it doesn't make sense for him to ever train again.

IMO, people just need to let Gohan go. Haha.

I know it's just the way it was written so Goku could save the day again, but the two times Gohan has had the opportunity to beat the bad guy and win, he has always screwed it up. He may be powerful but he's extremely arrogant. First he gets his father killed and risks the planet blowing up with Cell, then he lets not only his brother get absorbed by Buu, but also himself in what should have been an easy win.

He has never liked fighting, nor has he ever been good at it. He has a family now and that's where he belongs. With them. If anyone needs another time to shine, it's Vegeta. Or Piccolo.
