If I remember correctly, SSJ3 is attained through training, not a burst of emotion.

That or MAGIC

BOG spoilers:

the whole "enraged ssj2 vegeta beats up beerus" was always one of the things I disliked the most about the film. I know it's just a stupid japanese cartoon for kids but I find it incredibly hard to suspend my disbelief and accept that an angry ssj2 can beat up a god while ssj3 goku is unable to land a single hit.

beerus took no damage

beerus took no damage

Yeah. The way I interpreted it was that Beerus was caught off guard which is why it went for as long as it did. If SSJ3 Goku was in that situation, the result probably would have been the same. He'd have been able to land a few punches that ultimately result to nothing.

The reason goku was able to go ssj3 was because he did dead and the form didn't put a lot strain on his body, once he was alive again he couldn't keep the form for very long. In order for vegeta to get it he would need to be dead to reach it.
Vegeta's severe anger and training obsession will make him reach it alive

If they add SSJ3 Vegeta to that scene, replacing the oddly overpowered anger boost, he'll just give a few attacks, an energy blast, and then go right back to normal. Gotenks achieved SSJ3 in a dimension with even harsher conditions than Earth. There's no official statement that it can't be achieved there, it's just fan speculation.

What? Where are you getting this? There's nothing that says you need to be dead to achieve SSJ3 status. Goku was just saying that he used up way more energy alive in that state than he did when he was dead. Vegeta could still turn SSJ3, just that it would only be for 15 minutes or however long it's supposed to be.

Also, too...since we're on the subject, this is the first time I came to the realization that dead people somehow have the ability to have further transformations.

That wasn't what he's saying. It's not that you have to be dead to become SSJ3, but that the form requires more energy than is really sustainable that the implication is that you can only reach the form if your body doesn't have its normal limitations up in the first place -- e.g. Goku being dead, Gotenks being a fused person.

Ugh BoG did this Goku Beerus fight perfectly. Goku goes full power and loses instantly.

None of this Goku holding back nonsense. And then SSJ3 being dragged out.

Toei Animation, ladies and gentlemen.

Hey, at least it took till episode 5 before we got an episode that looks like shit, too bad it had to be the first fight in the series....

Hopefully it looks like this because they are diverting budget to the Super Saiyan God fight.

I know it's early but any signs for the return of Park Ranger 17?

Dragon Ball Super |OT| Toriyama Forgot

also, I still find the characters to be unnaturally tall. Why is that even a thing? Has the Japanese population become significantly taller in the last twenty years to warrant such changes? I know Sonic Boom had the same, and it's kind of okay in that one, but it's so weird in Dragon Ball.

Is it that noticeable in motion or is it one of those pause at the right moment things. Because that looks like absolute shit. :(

I know in addition to budget that long running series have much more constricting schedules and often divert talent into the movies, but it still seems bizarre to me when I see so many lesser known 13-26 episode anime with perfectly serviceable animation and yet huge international names like Naruto and Dragonball are so inconsistent.

And somehow Fate Zero/UBW exist.

Anyway I've watched the first 3 of super and I like it well enough, but with the retreading of the movies going forward I think I'll probably just wait to marathon those sections (in chunks at least) and try to watch weekly when it gets into new stuff. Very glad it exists though.

Why are they re-doing BoG and RF? Is Toriyama that hard up for ideas?

They already have said that after F is the Universe 6 arc with the Super Dragon Balls (the namesake of the show), I imagine they decided to redo BoG and F because they didn't want to assume that everyone watching the show had seen the movies and probably wanted to make some changes to them to plant seeds for future plot lines.
:lol Goku's face
I almost want to make that my avatar, but the time stamp ruins it.

Then you don't remember the original very well, plenty of episodes looked like complete trash.

Just two quick examples of some shitty Dragon Ball stuff, there is plenty more.
Maybe it's just the new art style but it looks a lot worse to me now.

Least the movies were nice looking I suppose.

Trunks beating Frieza looked like absolute dog shit.

worst part about that is one episode was pretty much the greatest looking dbz episode of all time:

and then the scene continues into the beginning of the next episode, arguable the worst looking episode of all time:

jarring as fuck

Yeah the drawing and animation within this episode, during the fight anyway, was not very good. Seems the artists have a real issue with getting Goku's face right at a distance and at angles. Looks just right when close up, but when the camera pans away it is all over the map. Goku's knock out animation was downright odd looking.

Hopefully they get that corrected. Are they creating these episodes on the fly or are they already mostly finished?

that jump was too obvious that even my old 1998 self could see it right away.
