Dragon Ball Super |OT| 28 Episodes Later

Loved this episode.Cook Vegeta is funnier than the Bingo dance, and Beerus is looking much darker than in the movie. Overall, I like the changes, and the quality of the episode seems to be much better than last week's (which wasn't hard at all).

Hopefully they keep making little deviations from the movie in the next episodes (hey, we may even get
SSJ3 Vegeta!
)

People already rating Super 5 episodes in. Wow.
We know the show is going to be long so not all episodes are going to be full of action. It's not Death Note.

I think Super is going to have its unique style and they'll tone down the action as compared to DBZ.

DB focuses on the dragonball hunting adventure, martial art and fighting techniques with fantasy setting.
DBZ focuses on the actions and transformations, with a serious tone and a sci-fi setting.
DB Super goes with the character building and casual drama with a laid-back modern setting. Guys like Krillin, Yamcha etc are all wearing tang suits now

Huh. I guess it makes sense since Super seems to include anime filler, unlike the movies.

My comment stands about Toei ignoring Toriyama's comments about Saiyan hair style though. The whole bit about Saiyan hair was given to Toei by Toriyama alongside his designs for Bardock's team in the special, but, although they used his designs, none of the other designs in the movie follow that pattern (you can see background Saiyans with hair in bright colors). And it's just odd to go back to that Vegeta design after it was established in the show itself that Saiyan hair doesn't change.

I guess their explanation is that his hair technically didn't change. He just combed it as a kid. It is weird how they changed it from the movie though.

But doesn't it line up with the Bardock special?

That being said, I rather enjoyed this episode. The animation is much better now (more so compared to the trash we got last week).

It does kinda look like he brushed some of his hair down to cover his widow's peak.
My new head canon is that as a kid Vegeta was embarrassed by his widows peak so he tried to cover it up.

Kid Vegeta's anime hairstyle, although having a high hairline, like Adult Vegeta, doesn't seem to have that central lower part of Adult Vegeta's hair though, which actually means that in the anime he got more hair as he grew up.

Maybe the central part is still there, but you just don't see it when his hair is brushed down like that.

So is Super just the new movies retold with worse animation and filler?

The first 26 or so episodes probably will be like that, but after the first two movies we're going to get a new arc involving "Universe 6" and the "Super Dragonballs".

Hm... I guess that can work with the thicker bangs in the new Super episode. There's clearly no hair there in the Bardock Special design though.

It's a very unnecessary change. It makes me wonder how much say Toriyama actually has in Super.

And they're also changing stuff pretty heavily too, Episode 6 is pretty different from the movie version of events.

People bitched about his hair in BoG, so they changed it. Makes sense to me.

HEAVILY changed?

Nothing really has been " changed " besides Beerus being awake a bit earlier then in BoG. Everything else was exactly the same ( when it comes to actual events and outcomes )

Haven't watched this episode yet. But I have a feeling it will end with Majin Buu getting slammed down and Vegeta / Beerus squaring off. If thats true ... nothing has changed. I'll comment again once i actually watch the new episode though. Who knows, maybe Majin Buu kills Beerus or something

It's a very unnecessary change. It makes me wonder how much say Toriyama actually has in Super.

In the announcement, it was only said that he was writing a "story outline" for the series and doing designs for the new characters. The credit is similar to the one given for him in Battle of Gods, but for that there were always interviews where they talk about sending and receiving stuff from Toriyama for approval and many changes during the process, while this time they seem to be silent about his involvement.

So, it seems very likely that he sends the story outline and designs to Toei, but then they develop that into actual scripts and episodes by themselves, giving space to add these minor anime-only elements we've seen so far.

People bitched about his hair in BoG, so they changed it. Makes sense to me.

Dragonball Minus was created after Battle of Gods, and had a similar looking kid Vegeta though. I think this is more due to Super's staff acknowledging filler in general, like Gregory hanging around with Kaio and the cameo of Satan's disciples in the first episode.

I doubt Toriyama has very much involvement with Super outside the outline he wrote for it and character designs. It's not like he's personally looking over each episode. And it seems the production staff for the show is using the Z production materials as a reference point, so kid Vegeta's design is probably a case of "well he looked like this in the show before, so we have to make him look like this now."

Good episode. Nice minor changes, which shows that they're no just chucking on filler like the last episode. Will be interested to see what they do with Revival of F. That could, in theory, get some improvements from this format while as far as I'm concerned BoG was perfect story wise and changes are more for extension and differentiation.

So we have to throw everything we've seen on Battle of Gods away? Can't say I'm mad, that movie is no bueno, Super has been more fun at least

eh...

Videl has seen some shit

Seriously? This episode shit all over Episode 5 in terms of animation / drawing quality. Episode 5 was the absolute worst I've ever seen in a DBZ and it occurred many times over an extended fight sequence. The 2 aren't even comparable.

Anyway. As expected this episode ended with Buu pissing off Beerus. I liked the changes in this episode actually. I liked Buu not just licking the pudding but also telling off Beerus. That would get anyone pissed, but especially him. I liked Beerus shoving King Vegeta's face into the pavement and Vegeta running in. Put perspective in with the current stance of Vegeta.

Liked the episode, chuckled a couple of times. Outright laughed when Vegeta busted out with the cooking. Funny shit.

So yeah, a return to form this episode. Episode 5 will go down in history as one of the worst. And we are almost done with BoG and only 6 episodes in. I'm expecting a 4-5 episode fight between Goku / Beerus so we will be like 12 episodes in when moving beyond BoG.

I bet we see the training between Beerus / Whis and Vegeta / Goku in much greater detail. Perhaps see the origins of SSGSS and how all that came about before leading into RoF.

So like maybe 25 episodes or so in and we will be done with RoF and moving into brand new territory?

Oh, no, of course, this episode was WAY better animation/drawing wise than the previous one, no questions. That moment was episode 5 levels of bad drawing, probably the only bad moment in this episode tho

I can see BoG being done by episode 10 depending on how quickly Goku shows up. There's... not much of a reason for him to not be on Earth at this point.

Man, I really wish there was more than one episode per week.

When I was growing up I got new DBZ every day.

That is because we got the show after it was done sitting in Japan. They had the show for ten years of weekly episodes.

Going off episode titles,
goku goes super saiyan god in episode 10

I'm definitely looking forward to Revival of F more. Battle of Gods was amazing by itself and these expanded episodes aren't doing it any favours. Revival of F could be a lot better with a slower pace.

I know but Vegeta looked like this in Dragon Ball Minus:

Dragonball minus contradicted something else major too. In Minus, Goku was send to Earth for safety, whereas in the DBZ manga, Raditz said that Goku was specifically send to Earth to destroy the planet. Anyway, it was really a filler material to showcase Goku's mum.

Then again Vegeta's hairstyle isnt a big issue anyway. Its just a minor cosmestic inconsistency

Good ep! I think this is actually an improvement over this part of the movie. Going straight from
pudding to a fight between Buu and Beerus, with Buu getting shredded up and re-forming
was a nice addition.

Not that i think that Toriyama thought of that, but they could have easily lied to Raditz. Or Gokus Parents lied to someone else on why they needed the capsule, and this Person ended up saying this to Raditz.

But as i said, it's neither official, nor do i think that Toriyama would think of small stuff like that, but i think it's a logical explaination for this.

That wasn't a contradiction; Raditz had no way to know why Goku was sent to Earth (Raditz didn't return to Planet Vegeta and Bardock didn't use radio communication since Frieza was monitoring all scouters).

I think the theory that its only raditz's assumption rather than something he was told or learnt, that goku being on earth is because he was send to destroy earth, might be the most logical theory to go around this inconsistency.

Besides, if they were only going to lie, they will be lying about the location where they be sending Goku, rather than the intention of sending Goku.

I saw the Resurrection 'F' film tonight at the cinema.

The things that stood out were the unironic use of Maximum The Hormone and that I got triple charged for my ticket and now have to go back tomorrow and argue with a bored teenager for a refund.

Marvel films have conditioned me to stay after the credits. Everyone else left but I stayed and caught the 'payoff'.

Dragonball Minus is a companion chapter to Jaco, included the Jaco volume, and, in Jaco itself, it's clear that everyone thinks that Goku was sent to conquer the planet.
