I loved that episode. Easily the best one of the season. I'm always rooting for Vegeta to get his moment to be the savior (although I root for Piccolo more), but it's always fun to see him reduced to a coward as well given his vanity. Loved how Beerus was egging him on too. Really fun episode. Favorite moment was when Beerus asked Vegeta what was his relationship to Goku. Enemies... but not

Just catching up with Super and ep 5 has completely ruined everything. I'm sure there have been many complaints already but my god...

The animation is atrocious. Like I literally could've done better drawings with my left hand. How can the biggest anime of all time have animation that looks like it was drawn by a 4 year old? It is amazing. I don't even care if the budget is relatively low, I've never seen anime this bad amongst the smaller episodic animes I've watched this summer.

Aside from the animation, the whole fight choreography was poor and this episode added nothing interesting compared to what happened in the movie. It was actually significantly worse. Goku at SSJ3 getting wiped out immediately was pretty iconic and laid a marker down. This was just an entire episode of Goku trying to land a hit and it didn't really emphasise the power of Beerus at all.

I knew Toei were a pretty terrible company but I didn't expect such amateur stuff. This is largest anime franchise in the world. It was big enough to come back after a 20 year hiatus and proceed to have 2 successful box office hits.

I'm just frustrated at this point. I had such high hopes :(

Yes, because one out of five episodes is completely indicative of a series, and of its future.

Abandon hope, all ye who watch episode 5 of Dragon Ball Super.

Did you see how bad it was? It was next level bad.

The fact that they couldn't afford the time or effort to properly animate one of the more important episodes of the show doesn't really inspire much confidence I must admit.

I'd understand if it was a little sloppy or if it was just one or two frames but it was consistently bad for large periods of the episode.

I can see BoG being done by episode 10 depending on how quickly Goku shows up. There's... not much of a reason for him to not be on Earth at this point.

Yeah I can't wait until the movie plot is finished in Super so we can see brand new characters and story and new transformations!

Vegeta SSJ3 pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Odd that when they showed the planet this episode it was like our Earth
(A similar North America).... all the other times and in games they always had their Earth being different

Kind of sad that GT started better than this nearly 15 years ago...

Episode 6 was better than 5 at least but these animations are absolutely pissing me off.

this episode had me laughing so much!! And a good example of retelling the movies while keeping it interesting unlike last week which was the complete opposite..

I'm almost certain that's just an oversight. But then again, maybe it's because Super's a new Universe? I haven't been keeping up, if you couldn't tell.

yea it could be a mistake

after these recap episodes they'll introduce new universes so currently that Earth pic was likely them just doing some source drawing since know one doesn't have a overly clear pic on the DBZ world

In this version, it's even more confusing as to why the Z fighters start fighting Beerus when Buu was the one who started the fight to begin with.

Really happy with this one. I thought it was better written than the movie equivalent. I hope it's a turn in the season, where things tend to vary from the movie in good.

Episode 6 is the first one so far that I really enjoyed. It was really hilarious seeing Vegeta so scared. The preview for the next episode has me pumped. Can't wait to see the crew step up and get smashed, and then Vegeta's turn.

Saw episode 6, too bad there's no beerus dancing.

well thankfully ep6 was an improvement on 5, but its still full of weird animations and lazy distant shots. like goku and king kai at the start, it held onto that scene for like 20 seconds, on an extremely basic and lazy looped shot.

ive no idea why its set on a cruise ship, why change that? seems completely pointless. theyre rewriting scenes from BoG for zero reason and making them worse. the new king vegeta scene was weird, universes softest pillow? and why does vegeta go from having no idea who beerus is to completely remembering him again, it flip flops.

im guessing there are going to be another 6 episodes at least before we get anywhere near goku transforming, and there is no way the fight can be better than the BoG version, especially not on this budget. my worst fear is a big build up where everyone gets excited, then toei fart out something as bad as ep 5 again.

sorry to be a downer, it was a decent ep

You're really nitpicking the shit out of the show.

Just because Goku is able to go SSJ3 doesn't mean Vegeta is going to do it. When Goku trained in otherworld he could basically train for hundreds of years and it only be a day on Earth. Just the way eternity works.

The whole God transformation is a completely different thing. So no, Vegeta won't go SSJ3. He will go SSG and then they will train further in that and he will learn to transform to the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Still the dumbest name ever lol

This episode was fun.

Last week has really soured it for me though... Couldn't really enjoy what I was watching because I was paying too much attention to the quality of the animation and assets.

Huh...that's not how the afterlife works in Dragonball. Reread the chapters where he trained for the Saiyans. The time flows equally in both sides. It's not a Room of Space and Time.

Man, that episode was great, especially after last week's shitshow.

I think I like the Chef Vegeta gag more than the bingo dance, haha. I love that the Octopus vendetta from episode 2 actually was a setup for something after all.

Why do people forget SSJ3 Gotenks is a thing so much

That preview seemed to heavily imply that vegeta is going to go SSJ3 next episode. His hair looked ready to lengthen, the way goku's looks when he transforms from SSJ2 to 3

words would be useful if you have a comment
Your citique of the episode comes off pretty vapid and subjective.. I'm going to take it your joking.

i mean after reading something like
and why does vegeta go from having no idea who beerus is to completely remembering him again, it flip flops.

how can you write this. how are you confused by such a simple narrative device like this and call it flip flopping lol? what is this. i don't even know anymore. is this trolling? what's going on.

yeah, the animation definitely remains 'rough' in places. Just look at Piccollo's face when Krillin offers his balls. Or the complete lack of perspective as the part of the group facing away from the camera are clearly in the same spot or even behind Beerus and the group facing towards the camera. And the chant shot to follows: MS Paint Abridged.

Well, at least Vegeta is drawn in detail most of the time. And yes, Bulma's mom has her eyes open the entire time. It's creepy once you notice you had no idea that character was even there.

You can also tell what the animators like drawing: Pilaf's gang, 18, Bulma, Bulma's boobs, Whiz. With the last one occasionally getting the shaft.(we can't very well have a lack of Zarbon, can we? )

Also: Little Green disappeared, despite being on the ship. Animators forgot.

Vegeta know who is beerus all along. but most of his memory of beerus were traumatizing so most probably they got turned into repressed memory after that. Seeing beerus was the cue for those memory retrieval. I have no idea why and how did you intepret him of not knowing beerus in the first place.

How are changes like the birthday setting has got to do with the quality here?

Yeah that's pretty much how I felt. The critiques seemed to be either incredibly subjective and baseless or just nonsensical.

The party is now on a boat. Who cares!?

Toei´s animation is very different to what it was years ago, but I honestly think its decent enough for TV, nowadays they seem to save the fixes and up the quality in the bluray releases, and I remember that when we got the original series it was the fixed version, not the one that first aired in japan.

I mean, people can keep on complaining about the series animation quality, is fun, but nowadays DB is so big that is going to sell anyway, its a product of the times.

Holy shit, why does Bulma's mom have her eyes open?? Almost though she was launch if not for the shape of her eyes, but they decided that she don't exist anymore.
